Sheesh, this was difficult to watch.
The animation was super limited and felt incredibly low budget.
Not to mention those terrible looking CGI backgrounds.

I had a hard time following the story, too. They didn't do a great job of introducing the world, any of the characters or their motivations, so half of the time I was just wondering "Why is any of this happening? Why should I care about any of this?"

I know this was based on a game, so maybe if I was more familiar with that, then perhaps I would have understood things better, but that shouldn't be a pre-requisite to watching an anime adaptation.

Still, once I got to the second episode, it started off much better than the first episode. And, well, honestly, it seemed like it was better animated overall.

The story was still a bit convoluted... All I was really able to discern about the plot is that there's a war between demons and humans, and everybody was arguing over it, causing the majority of the episode to be boring.

Another thing I was wondering about... if this takes place in the year 997, in this fantasy setting with swords and shields, then why and how did that one dude have a god damn pistol?

Anyway, by the time they finally get to some action, it's not bad, but it only lasts for a little bit, and then there's just a forced resolution to the overall plot. I guess they may have originally been planning on making a third OVA but had to wrap things up early?
Or maybe they just wanted people to go buy the game to finish the story?

Anyway, this wasn't the worst thing I've ever seen, but it looked kind of crappy a lot of the time, and even when it looked better, it still didn't feel like the visuals looked as good as they could have. The story was rushed and didn't leave an impact or have anything memorable or noteworthy about it. It's really a worthless OVA, that isn't recommended, but isn't entirely incompetent.

I give it a 3 out of 10.

Well, gosh. This was painful to watch. I'm really glad this was only 5 minutes, because even just that 5 minutes was almost unbearable to sit through.

The characters are annoying, but on top of this, they're written nonsensically. The story consists of one random gag after the next, to the point where it's almost impossible to follow what's going on, and even if you could, I don't think you would want to. Each gag is meant to gross-out the viewer and give a certain amount of shock value (since these are cute little girls doing and saying these kind of things), however, this aspect isn't even well done, and just feels overly forced. In the end, the gags end up just being gross instead of funny whatsoever, so it's just painful to sit through

Music is unremarkable and sounds like it was cheaply produced, inoffensive but unmemorable.
Voice acting is poor, with generic high-pitched "cute girl" voices that are grating to listen to.

The art style wasn't very good, and is what you'd expect from a generic "cute girl" anime. Bright colors, weirdly proportioned bodies, dull backgrounds. However... I will say this... it was at least animated adequately. For that, it gets +1 point from me, but... overall, that's not nearly enough to salvage the rest of it, and I would say anybody and everybody should just avoid this travesty altogether. It's not even good for a laugh.

I give it a 2 out of 10.

Wow! I'm surprised at how low of a score this anime has. I'm not saying it's great or anything, but I actually did enjoy my time with it. I watched the Japanese dub, so perhaps the English dub was just so terrible that it drove the show to a lower rank. However, I guess I can't be sure.

Dark Cat is an early 90s OVA that has two main focuses in it's story. The first follows Aimi Koenji, who is hopelessly in love with a boy in her school, Hiroki Koizumi. However, Hiroki is in love with somebody else, who ended up rejecting him. The other is a tale of two brothers, Hyoi and Hiroki Koizumi, who have the power to transform into creatures known as "Dark Cats", and who are busy fending off evil monsters that are being awoken in humans by the main villain, an ogre named Jukokubo.

Either story on it's own would be somewhat generic, and combining the two makes the anime seem a bit unfocused. However, the two tales intertwine at the end. I can't say the story was super unique, but it was at least entertaining for the duration, even if it's somewhat poorly executed with some plot holes. The characters are pretty basic and forgettable, but they were interesting enough for the story they were telling. The ending also didn't seem very satisfying, which is a downside. I would say the story is probably the weakest part of this whole thing, but it's got just enough in it to keep things interesting for a 50 minute OVA.

The visual directing also isn't very great, consisting mostly of very typical shots, without anything impressive standing out. This doesn't do any favors for the art, which seems to be dated, even by 1991 OVA standards. It definitely looks more like the kind of thing that would have came out 5 years earlier than it did. Still, the art wasn't atrocious to look at, even if it was kind of plain and unrefined.

The music was great, and was definitely the highlight, being one of the more memorable aspects of the anime. It had this 80s J-pop sound to it which felt really reminiscent of the era, and worked well in the setting.

Voice acting in the Japanese dub was above average. There weren't any standout performances, but each actor did an adequate job at voicing their character, even if the lines they had to read were somewhat generic.

Overall, it's not anything special, but it's a decent enough anime to check out if you're bored and can forgive some rough edges and a generic story.

I give it a 6 out of 10.

Well, after a long time spent searching for some place to watch this music video, I found it.

It's one of the earlier titles on the list, so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised when it turned out to just be unremarkable and not offensively bad.

The animation is some poor looking CGI, which probably didn't even look good in 2004 when it was released.

The music was... not my cup of tea, let's say.

There really wasn't anything good about it, but it wasn't draining or horrible to watch. It's just unremarkable, nothing more, nothing less.

That's why I give it a 3 out of 10.

I wasn't initially going to watch this one, but I decided I should, just for the sake of completeness, seeing as I watched the first two as a part of this feature.
At the time, this anime wasn't ranked in the bottom 100, so I didn't bother to copy down what it's score & ranking was in 2014... However, it seems like it's gone down in rank since I first started this feature in 2014. Oh JOY.

Anyway, upon completion, I can essentially say, there's really nothing remarkable about this title. The art is poorly drawn as well as poorly animated, the backgrounds are a mess of CG which appear to be taken from the game, but don't work well in an animated feature such as this.

The story consists of a bunch of boring political conversations, with each scene essentially just being another static conversation between two or more people, with very limited animation.

This leads up to a poorly animated war scene in the second episode, which wasn't at all worth getting through the political crap for, and it ends with a typical plot-twisty conclusion which didn't much of anything for me.

It's major flaw was that it was boring, but it also seems really cheaply produced. All in all, it's bad... but not nearly as bad as some of the other stuff on this list.

I give it a 2 out of 10.

Gosh, the animation here was really horrid. Tons of static shots and incredibly limited animation. They only had about 4-6 fully-animated shots which they re-used over and over throughout the production... the rest of the animation consisted of lips flapping, static images being scrolled across the screen, and screen-shaking or zoom effects used on static images.
The background art was similarly terrible, and it consisted of one of two types: It was either something that looked like it was scribbled up in Photoshop using the default brushes and a tablet without any pressure sensitivity, or some pre-rendered CG background that looked like it was ripped directly out of an N64 game.

Aside from the art, the story was bland and forgettable, with really basic characterization, and over-used plot points being thrown at the viewer left & right. It's entirely forgettable, and not worth sitting through the terrible animation for.

Music was bland, but passable.
Voice acting was fine, I suppose.

Overall, I give it a 2 out of 10.

Terribly conceived animation, featuring a ton of smudges and really sloppily drawn figures.

The story in this short is pretty much non-existent. A man answers his door, gets shot, and then ends up seeing a bunch of surreal things. I think this film was just an excuse for the animator to animate some weird, surreal bullshit. Yet, despite it's surreal nature, it doesn't look nice at all, the surreal nature comes from the content of the images instead of the quality of them.

Overall, I give it a 1 out of 10.

Well, I'm back, after a long hiatus from this feature... and, there's not much to say about this one...

It's some bland, basic-looking claymation... and there isn't much of anything of note happening here. A girl saws through another girl with a chainsaw and then her & the guy filming it both review the movie, then upload it to some streaming site, then they sit there & stare at the monitor for a bit.

The blood splatter effect was pretty cool, but that's about the only good thing I can say about this short.

I give it a 2 out of 10.

Some of you may be wondering, since I just completed #44 on the list, why I would jump from there, down to #24, much closer to the worst rated anime. Well, the answer is because Generation of Chaos 2 is ranked at #41, and I'd like to watch the first one before moving on to the second. I'd also like to space them out a bit from each other, as watching them back to back might be just a bit too much to handle.
In any case, without further adieu, I'm going to watch it and return with my thoughts on it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alright! So, I just finished it. There's two things that stood out to me, the first are the horrid CG backgrounds that literally look like they came out of a Playstation 1 game. Yes, they're THAT bad. The second is the low-fidelity music, which sounds like it came out of a SNES-era RPG, not even joking. The style of the sound effects also have that low-quality video game feeling to them. I'm sure the style of the music and sound effects were intentionally made to be like this, in order to evoke the feeling of a JRPG, but I just don't think it works very good when it comes to animation.

Speaking of the animation... it was fairly limited for the most part, with only a little bit of more complex animation. The character designs weren't very interesting, either... and the whole thing ranged from bland to lazy. Still, even though it's not good, this isn't the worst animation I've seen, it just felt like it was created on a fairly low budget.

The story wasn't anything incredible, but wasn't actively bad, either. Just bland.
Same goes for the characters, bland, uninteresting, but not actively bad.

So, basically, we've got a bland, uninteresting story, which, while not terrible, manages to be dragged down by low production values.
There's really not much else to say about it besides that.

Anyway, taking the whole thing into consideration, it gets a 3 out of 10 from me.

Well, hey there everyone! I'm back again, and it's time to watch another shitty low-rated pile of garbage anime! Yay!
Now, since there's 6 episodes to this one, I figured I would try out a new format for multi-episode series such as this. Previously, I would separate the posts as nescessarry and write up what I thought about the group of episodes I've watched... however, I don't think that's an ideal way to do it. Ideally, I feel like it would be most interesting to see my thoughts after each episode that I've watched. So, to keep things interesting, I'll be writing something after each episode that I view, starting below with the first one.

Episode 1:
Well, this has started off pretty decently, actually! The background art looks like a total CGI mess, and the story hasn't really went anywhere yet, but I already think the characters are somewhat charming and at least semi-enjoyable, and the action seems like it's done decently enough, though it could be better. The character animation is also nicely done, even though I'm not a huge fan of the character designs, themselves (still, those aren't bad, either). None of the show's parts are especially good, but most of them aren't especially bad, either. So far, It's been very middling, and certainly one of the better things I've watched out of this bottom 100 list, despite the pretty piss-poor fansub work by Caudex... (it was the only version I could find)
Let's see where it goes from here.

Episode 2:
Well damn, the fansub script gets even worse this episode. Can you believe they changed a character saying "It's showtime" to "Come have a good show"? Like, seriously. I doubt these translators spoke any English whatsoever. In any case, with my moderate understanding of Japanese I was able to power through their bad subs.
Anyway, onto the show itself. This episode seemed a little better than the first one. I feel like the animation was slightly better (mostly because it didn't focus as heavily on CGI), and the voice acting is still solid although a bit wooden in places. The story still seems a bit slapdash, with things just happening left & right bombarding the viewer... and I'm not entirely about the continuity concerning what happened between the first episode and this one. However, this still hasn't delved into the levels of "shitshow" yet. It's still just a middling & mediocre series, and is still better than 90% of the stuff I've watched on this bottom 100 list thus far. Time will tell if it can stay at that level.

Epsiode 3:
The subs seem to be getting worse and worse with each episode, but I'm still able to fight my way around them by listening to the Japanese. The dialogue is somewhat simple, so it's easy to figure out what is supposed to be said in many cases. I know I mentioned the subtitles in a previous episode, but they were just so bad here that it warranted another mention. This translator must have not really understood English very well, and I have my doubts about them understanding Japanese, either. It's like they didn't understand either language and yet tried to translate from one to the other.
In any case, as for the episode itself... things seem to be going downhill slightly. I can accept the nudity they put into this episode, because it was done somewhat tactfully... but the overall quality of the action and directing has gone down compared to the first and second episode. The first two episodes felt surprisingly high budget, but this one just felt very low budget by comparison. Still, the characters, while simple, seem entertaining, even if the show isn't doing much with them, and the whole thing still feels like it's just some dumb, mindless fun.
I should mention, while the first two episodes felt like a 5/10 that was just shy of being a 6/10, this one feels like it's a 5/10 that is just on the border of becoming a 4/10 (though perhaps not quite there yet). We'll see if the last three episodes can pick things up and keep the score from getting any lower.

Episode 4:
Well, Episode 4 seems to pick things up once again. The animation is back up to snuff, and while the directing is kind of scattershot, this episode was still not as bad as episode 3. The story is kind of all over the place, and the focus has kind of shifted from a character-focused thing to this "fate of the world" kind of tale... but... I dunno, it's not terrible. At least when it's compared with other stuff in the bottom 100.
The subs are still poor, though. They actually missed a few lines of dialogue this time. :/

Episode 5:
This episode was pretty boring... the animation remained unimpressive throughout it, and it just felt like nothing of note happened in it. The little robot Link piloted that mech suit, though... and was throwing Kamehamehas all over the place. That was pretty funny, even if the Dragon Ball reference seemed a bit out of place. Anyway, can you believe the fansub group translated "Kamehameha" as "Destroy Beam"? Ugh. Anyway, onto the finale, I guess?

Episode 6:
Well, I guess this was a decent way to wrap things up, but it also just didn't have much impact.
Things come to a close, and there's an anti-war anti-nuke message which is just not subtle at all, and it basically just blatant and feels more like a public service announcement instead of a theme. It also feels very forced into this story, which has been an action tale up until this point. Anyway, the action in this episode was kind of a big spectacle, but all of it felt sort of boring. There were a few nice parts in the animation here, but it still felt like this final episode was still created on a tight budget.
Oh, and the subtitles still sucked, but that's to be expected at this point.

Overall, the show ended up being pretty disappointing. Some parts of it, such as the animation and the soundtrack made it feel like this could have been something better... something at least sort of entertaining. But, even these parts felt middling... and they dropped the ball in so many other places that it makes it kind of a slog to sit through, even though it's not the worst thing I've ever seen.

I'm sitting somewhere between a 3/10 and a 4/10 for this one...
but I guess I'll be nice and give it a 4 out of 10.
