When rating something, or writing a review, I consider many points...
- Art Style
- Animation Quality
- Character Design (visual)
- How well are the characters written?
- If the show has character development, how well do they develop their characters?
- How interesting is the story or it's themes?
- How well are plot points or the show's theme conveyed to the viewer?
(note: I don't hold it against a show for not having thematic elements or character development, but I do consider them if they are present within a show.)
- The soundtrack
- The voice acting
- The sound effects
Of course, some of those parts have more weight to them than others, and some may be more important or less important depending on what the show is trying to accomplish.
However, my final rating is ultimately determined by how much I enjoyed the sum of all those parts.
To help people understand the scores I give, here are some general definitions for what my ratings typically mean:
|10| Masterpiece Something incredible, beautiful, masterful. Something which I hold in the highest regard. Even though it may have faults, none of them are apparent. This is a likely candidate for what I would call the "best ever". I don't give this rating lightly! |9| Great Incredibly impressive. Feels like it does everything right. Even though I can possibly see a few minor faults in something with this rating, those faults are made insignificant by how incredible it is overall. |8| Very Good Very well made. It's noticeably not as good as a 9 or 10, but is still very impressive in many aspects, even if it's faults may be slightly larger and more noticeable. |7| Good This rating means I liked it, overall. Parts of it might not be that impressive, but it's still well made, and has enough here to be very enjoyable. |6| Above Average It does more stuff right than wrong, but there's still plenty of things holding it back. This is the kind of show that may not have impressed me, but was still likely fun to watch, or at least had something going for it. |5| Average There's nothing very special about this, but it also isn't overly bad. It may be unremarkable, but it still does just enough to hold my interest. It's very likely that I have mixed feelings about this show. I wouldn't immediately call it good, but also wouldn't immediately call it bad. It's just... "there". Watch it if you want... |4| Below Average This is below average. It does more things wrong than right. There's no way I would ever call it good, and I probably wouldn't suggest it to most people, but I might not mind it so much. |3| Bad This is the kind of show where, even though there's a few slight glimmers of hope, it's really mostly just a waste of time. You'd likely be better off watching something else. |2| Very Bad This is incredibly unsatisfying. It's the kind of thing that I don't see any redeemable qualities in. It's something that turned out very poor, despite the best intentions. You'd definitely be better off watching something else. |1| Appalling Something with this rating is just about the worst thing to happen! It's the kind of show that has no redeeming values whatsoever, and makes me wonder why it even exists, who it exists for, and makes me want to ask the creators why they thought making this hot steaming pile of garbage was a good idea! Anything that has this rating is something that I feel I completely wasted my time on, was made for nobody, and should never be viewed by human eyes, not even out of curiosity!
NOTE: My "On Hold" list consists of shows that I intend to go back to, no matter if I plan on restarting them or I plan on continuing form where I left off. My "Dropped" list consists of shows I don't have any current plans to go back to. Either because I feel like I've already got what I wanted out of the show and have no need to continue it, or I just didn't enjoy it.
