It looked like a smiling cat to me...

Great episode, I agree it was a little confusing.
But, I understand why Takizawa would want to fund their program...
It's similar to fb or any other social network, thus providing NEET computer programmers with solid jobs, thus bettering the status of Japan by reducing the NEET population/unemployment rate.

I really hope Osuhgi get's to keep his "cigar", fully intact. That would be one of the worst things to happen to a guy possible, especially with a cigar snipper...
I cringe every time I think about it.

I don't really understand what's going on.

Hirasawa calls himself a NEET but also that he's studying management and law. Doesn't that mean he's in Education or Training and thus not a NEET? Not to mention he seems to be involved in a creating a start-up company. I don't understand the hang-ups everyone seems to have about everything. Is there some Japanese view on entrepreneuship that I'm not aware of?

It's not a badly made series (though I could do without the pretty bland romantic comedy bits) but I'm just not getting it except for the fantastical part about quasi-magical cellphones. I'm pretty surprised it was licensed since this is a series I'd call "too Japanese" for a Western audience.

Also, is that small girl like 12 years old?

love the relaxing episode :D

i mean it's always good to have one of these episodes once in awhile.

i never knew Saki was surrounded by NEET's O_____O

all in all i think the plan between Hirasawa and Takizawa could work.

but yeah the episode didn't reveal anything major other than they all have something related to each other.

guess that Osugi guy got trapped hard.

Mii-tan is sooo cute :D

can't wait for the next episode :D

Well the Johny Taker girl is freaky. Also don't see how that NEET paradise will save Japan. Still plot is developing, maybe it will be explained.

I was confused for at least 60% of the episode. LOL

Hope he can escape before the blue haired bitch comes back. :C

Episode six was, in a word, confusing. In three words, confusing as fuck.

For starters there seemed to be a chunk missing between episodes five and six because Akira hadn't even mentioned Saki's group before episode six, yet at the start of it he was dropping Saki off at her friends and asking her to arrange a meeting. Somewhere along the way a "Hey baby, wanna come back to my place?" line was transformed into a plan to meet Saki's group of nerdy friends.

Before episode six, I think the word 'club' had only been mentioned once, and the club members had only had a few seconds on screen, so you'll have to forgive me for not getting how a 'romantic' offer changed into a plan to meet Saki's club friends. Why is she even in with nerds, anyway?

Anyway. The next scene introduced the club cast as they talked about Akira and how the geek leader wasn't so great and how the attractive ladies were all leaving the club...or something. I really don't know. All I do know is that they decided to pay Akira a visit at the end.

When they started conversing with Akira, it got REALLY confusing. Some stuff about a program that can add descriptions to any image viewed on a camera, the club being involved in recycling(!?), old men being evil, a bad thing happening to Saki because of the image description program, Akira wanting to use a group of six nerds to save the world by funding them...oh, and there was a very calm discussion at the end about the virgin nerd getting his "Johnny" chopped off. Too much was threw in and explained badly, in short. I wish I hadn't watched it at 1 AM because, if I ever watch episode 7, I'm going to need to rewatch it.

I think the message of Eden is that old people are ruining Japan and young, reclusive people can save it if they're helped. I don't really care at this point, though. Why? Because the series is all over the place - it isn't sure if it wants to be a slapstick comedy series, a Genshiken type comedy, a crime thriller or an anime that shows Japan from a certain angle. I enjoyed the rom-com opening episodes (despite not really liking either character) but have become less interested in it as its gone on. I might drop it - I'm not sure.

Basically my thoughts. :/

Umm... Okay, what the hell happened to this anime?

What happened between episode 5 and 6? Where does this club business come from? There was like no build-up to that and it just seems forced. Who are all these characters and what the hell are they talking about? (I had to look up in Wikipedia just to make sure i understood what was going on)

Here i thought this was gearing up to be a bad ass love story between two different but attached characters; them against the world and this "game" we keep hearing about - But now they're getting in the cellphone business along with all these new main characters... *SIGH*

And since their club is called "Eden of The East" i'm guessing that will be the major story arc for the rest of the series... Bummer. Here i was really loving the anime, but after this 180 - i'm not so sure.

I want to point out that "John" is slang for a hooker's customer, so maybe they used "Johnny" to make it lighter and basically call her a maneater. I think the use of "Johnny" is entertaining and clever since the word is used in english (maybe only America?) so much for a variety of different things.

It seems that I underestimated much of what was presented in the last episode. Saki's job was meant to set up the theme that the youth are responsible for the future (some people said that last week) and now that that is set, along with the revelation of Akira's dealings with the NEETs, we know that he is trying to make Japan a place where young people (ie. the future) don't feel lost about their place in society and fail to take the reigns.

I feel like Akira is the only one so far who is using this method. Kondou probably used his money to fund aid the police in solving crimes, Dr. Hajime wanted to save old people from despair, and Shiratori seems to only rid society of "useless men."

Interesting things you brought up. I was wondering why they used the term "Johnny." It kind of has a funny tone to it though...the "Johnny Taker" LOL. Also, I like how you talked about the ways that the people are trying to make the society better. Akira's approach is rather creative, targeting NEETs.

I enjoyed the introduction of the club members and about their program East of Eden. Now we have a good idea of why the anime is titled the way it is.

Well, I am bit confused after this ep. Premise of this story seemed to be clear but now it shifts 100% and took another direction with this Higashi no Eden club project. I don't know but their tech is great (heh, just reminds me Google glass that was announced not so long ago - they have to stole the idea :D) but how this should help NEETs anyway? I don't know.

And what's with this Johnny name all around? Is Akira somehow connected after all or not?

Edit: And this memory erase - I have the feeling Akira removed his memories simply because he wanted to get as close to NEETs as he could, to share they way of thinking.

Also: I think that this series will turn out as big japanese society insight and that's why it began on high note to lure the masses. Heck, there can be the twist where they involve viewers to visit some webpage. So it's all on purpose and this anime will try to help NEETs also.

I don't really like coincidences like these :/

I still don't get how Eden will help anybody. I mean it looks cool, but how does that help NEETs and others?

God, when the lady killer cutted that cigar, I cringed so hard.

I didn't knew at all that Saki was part of a NEET group. That's kinda weird.

Is this show obscessed with the number 20000? xD

How can that guy post photo saying that he's kidnapped and the police don't give a fuck?

This episode was pretty bad. Watching it felt like walking in on an inside joke, everyone is laughing but you're just standing there clueless. Up until now the introduction of characters and details has been smooth and explained well enough to get by. Now suddenly there's 3 new people, a club, a program, and for some reason these new people need help with something but don't want it from Akira because he's not NEET. They just dumped a load of details with no context and spoke in very ambiguous terms. I hope the rest of the series isn't like this.

I agree with this post entirely aside from this episode being "bad." I liked it all right, but yeah, worst episode yet for sure. And I don't really understand how this program works.

Fun part, though, is that the girl is a psycho who kidnaps men, cuts off their penises, and is nicknamed the "Johnny Hunter"... yet, despite how ridiculous this is, it's totally thrilling and I'm on the edge of my seat wondering if Osugi is going to be saved.

Am I the only one concerned with how people act so calm in this anime?

1. People walk by calmly as a police officer lay dying of blood loss.
2. Construction workers talking about movie titles when a man appears to be committing suicide by jumping off a bridge.
3. Calmly talking on the phone when a good friend is being kidnapped by a serial killer.

This show is getting creepy so far. So, there's more development of that blue-haired woman and Micchan. They're mediocre characters but I don't like their personalities, Micchan is adorable but she's a bit harsh and a know-it-all. The blue-haired woman (I forgot her name) seems like she's kind of the villain but she seems like a typical femme fatale to me.
