oh my god, WOW. i'm seriously blown away.
i really didn't think i'd like this series at all, but i was going to give the first episode a shot at the very least... i'm not quick to dole out 10s, especially on the first episode, but i genuinely can't find any faults (at least, none that would warrant any -1s).
great character designs; voice acting; animation; op; fight scenes; cute girls; plot setting and world-building.

i'm kind of doubtful that this will remain a 10 by the end, but this is a STRONG AS HELL first episode. i'm truly shocked that the current rating is less than a 7.5, even. but meh. different strokes for different folks i guess...

man i'm not even a fan of the steampunk genre for the most part and yet here i am xD

Good for a 1st episode but why the f*ck were the cars moving like rockets? And she was flying/levitate?

Interesting episode of Girls Und Steampunk Fuck Gravity Spies. As an episodic series I think it'll do pretty good, not sure if Yuki Kaijura is really needed for the soundtrack though. Hopefully it'll get better as it introduces new elements to the world.

Excellent first episode. The plot was well developed and during every episode was delivered its main aspects. Please, will not you tell me you did not pay attention to getting enough material to understand the situation in that fictional world? Made In Abyss released partial information throughout the episode, having only one monologue at the end, which ended with a beautiful song. Pripri began with a monologue, and during the episode was giving the format of the plot. I think anyone with a half brain will unravel or realize the elements that are being worked on here!

Sound track note 10.

was hoping after Flip flappers Studio 3Hz would continue to set a better track record since their stuff always looked real nice but lacked better stories ,this one shows some promise

but is no one else disturbed by the design choices the mix of lighthearted moe-ish looking characters then you have a bunch of people getting murdered it's very jarring and doesn't fit with the steampunk setting (which they did a good job at),i dunno wasn't expecting this to be all that violent.

Because without the lolis, the anime might as well be a live action. I'm sick of anime like 91 Days that go for a, "realistic mature look" or sports anime, when they could all be live action, and nothing would change.

The girl found a letter or something in Eric's bag, that accepted his sister into a ballet school.
When she goes to the hospital, the sister has bruises on her toes she could only get from ballet.
WAY later, does Eric blackmail the girls by saying he won't defect, unless his sister comes.

-If Eric planned to defect with his sister, why sign her up to a ballet school there?
-Why did Eric say only LATER, that he wouldn't defect without his sister coming, rather than saying so from the get-go?

This was pretty good.
I saw cute grills doing spec ops 007 style... So gotta watch.
So I'm rather confused... I found it very enjoyable despite how ridiculous it is as a true spy work. Spies don't do half the things they do. But the style doesn't hurt. Guess not taking it as a serious spy work is what made it enjoyable.
Got a nice gloomy steampunk world, fitting with the series nature rather more morbid but action packed tone. The atmosphere is done very nicely.

Now I want to compare it with joker game, since it was the most recent spy anime I watched. Both episodic as it seems.

The episodic thing didn't bother me as much as it did for Joker Game. Guess Joker game's first 2 episode set up a lot of potnetial as a linear story. Its more realistic nature and difficulty in distinguishing characters make episodic series hard to appreciate.

This series feels well done, and I can't imagine it not being episodic. I wouldn't mind being so, though if it turns out not then the whole first episode feels irrelevant since it doesn't set up the story. Still I find it difficult to imagine how it will be like if it was linear story. Since the world building is a bit too simple to delve in that much deeper.

I think that is what makes Joker game worse as a episodic spy series, the background for Joker game carried lot more weight. Joker game also treat their spies a lot more mechanical, with the main interest being the army guy. But as it was episodic, the main interest in the development of the army guy was lost since it didn't focus on him.
This also meant the detailed intricate politics of the WW2 era was wasted on mundane simple jobs.

This anime have the spies less mechanical and more human. Which can be seen as a flaw as a spy, but due to its less demanding nature of real operations, feelings are not entirely avoided. Which makes the spies more interesting. And since each episode will have them together, we can get to know them better than Joker game.
If the first episode is anything of a representation, then each mission will probably develop the spies. This makes the spies a dynamic feature of this anime where as it was not in Joker game.
This contrast with a fairly interesting background but not particularly intricate as it only serve to further the atmosphere. This makes it a nice episodic anime as the story isn't the main focus, but the characters.

In Joker game, the characters are bland outside of the army guy that we never get to see again. And the main benefit was it took place in WW2 but the episodic nature ruined any potential in it being a compelling linear story about WW2 spy action.

After a bit of thought, this series can have a background main plot where it is linear. But probably won't be a major focus until the finale.

This kind of ended up being a comparison/semi review.
But I wanted to get my thoughts down about this. Since I never figured why I found joker game boring after the first 2 episodes outside of it being episodic. It puzzled me at first how this was enjoyable despite being episodic and also a spy anime.
If this series continue with how it handled the first episode, this will probably be one of the highlights of this season.
Only thing that threw me off of this series was that they were highschoolers. Like why...?
But by the end, I completely forgot about that and gave no F**ks

Wow...that art direction...

I'm going to guess that this is going to be some episodic mystery anime. Basically Ghost in the Shell: Steampunk Edition. Well I'm not complaining. The atmosphere and setting is really good. My only issue is the girls. They all look the same...well the faces at least. It'll take some time getting used to.

Is this the beginning of a revolution in anime? CGDUT? Cute girls doing ugly things??? Seriously, though, I really like the steampunk/quasi-Edwardian setting. The girls are cute too. I was also knitting while watching, so I didn't really follow it all that closely, but I want to go back and watch it again later, hoping to make more sense of who is who. Looks good so far!

Gettingin job at royal ballet like that was EXTREMELY hard. You would do stuff like that if you planned on staying. If the brother actually wanted to defect his best interest would be to not let that happen, yet he did which clashes with his claim of wanting to take his sister together.

Rather decent to good start although I'm curious how this will go... however I'm going to keep my eye on whatever its going through, considering how not only it has 12 episodes (as far as I am concerned, I might be wrong) but because of the time-span it can go either two ways.

1. An episodic storyline (not a bad thing in itself but it can be questionable at best, quite sketchy depending on the direction, it can have an episodic storyline while being interesting + adding bits of things to where it does look like it has a storyline just only built upon hints, or it ends up being one of the two, or both)

2. In the second half of the show it might go downhill, why am I asking this? Because I fear that this will suffer if if doesn't build itself a big foundation or anything regarding on this if they throw in the plot, and then for some reason it doesn't end up very well. This is what I am fearing.

I wasn't expecting anything from this. I thought it would be pretty bad, but I was pleasantly surprised. It certainly has potentials.

I'm curious though, is that old man dead or not?

I know that she (don't remember her name yet) lies a lot, but it didn't appear that she killed him on the spot. They needed him to stay alive to get insurance money for her daughter.

Did they kill him later on (as stated in the anime) or are they lying about having killed him?

You know, there's so much lies going on, we can never be too sure unless we see a clear bullet in their head!

I think she killed him there, but she hid the body so they wouldn't find it until a week later.

Pretty good start, overall. I really liked the ending. At least the sister got her operation. And that explained why Ange went to the life insurance place earlier in the episode.

I'd admit that my expectations for this show wasn't as high as some of the others shows I'm watching this summer season, but I'm glad I decided to watch Princess Principal, as its first episode was REALLY good. =D

The Steampunk-style setting is cool and intriguing and the badass loli characters were a joy to watch. The way they operated and tricked their enemy spies was thrilling, even if a little unrealistic.

Art & animation was very good, including the 3D CGI as well. Soundtrack was nice, as was the epic OP song and the cute & catchy ED song too. =)

Whether this show will be an episodic series or not, who knows, but a strong first episode has already got me hooked. I'm hoping Studio 3Hz and Actas can keep this form up to the end. =)

-so this is some kind of alternate history where london got the wall instead of germany
-holy shit that OP is fucking amazing
-is this going the baccano route of storytelling? this is the first episode but the case number is 13
-yo is this gravity rush
-also everything looks pretty fucking amazing
-ange is pretty cool
-like seriously all the backdrops in london are super gorgeous
-did ange just fuckin assassinate someone in plain sight
-also seeing the horrified face of the patient in the background (and flower loli, for a split-second), combined with the curtain slowly ceasing movement were all pretty great
-also i didn't really notice it in my first watch, but amy's pillow throw is really pathetic
-chise and dorothy are so smug
-apparently this eric dude was a cavorite researcher
-holy fuck on my second watchthrough of the episode i noticed that ange and dorothy actually saw eric release the carrier pigeon
-holy shit these kimble goons don't play around
-seems like flower loli's ability is to imitate voices
-the lighting in the final scene between ange and eric is absolutely perfect
-also absolutely everything about that scene was perfect
-i actually didn't notice (the first time around) that ange killed eric with the gun that she said wasn't loaded, holy shit
-it was also a nice touch including how ange hid the body in such a way that amy was still able to get the eye surgery

That was probably one of the most amazing first episodes of anything I've watched so far. The synopsis on MAL severely underrepresented what this episode ended up being. The level of detail to absolutely everything related to art was a very appreciated element of the episode since it set up the atmosphere really well. Also, the level of detail to the plot details themselves made it so that even during a second watch-through of the episode I was catching things that I didn't the first time around. For example, the wimpiness of Amy's pillow throw really added to the melancholy of the hospital scene in general. I also didn't notice they explicitly got the death insurance to be paid to Amy until the second watch-through. I thought they just implied it with the post-surgery scene at the end of the episode. My favorite example of small details was the fact that Ange was bluffing about the gun being empty and then using the same gun to shoot Eric. That was just a super fitting end for that scene, and I didn't even notice it until my second time watching. Like, it seemed that every single shot was important (not just relevant) to the narrative in some way, and that is actually a pretty big achievement compared to some of the other shows I've watched. So far this show's turning out to be absolutely amazing.

EDIT: I thought this was a standalone anime original, but apparently there's a mobile game. I never would have guessed from the content of the episode alone.

EDIT 2: Holy fuck, I didn't notice this the first time (or second time) around but it's strongly implied that Beatrice flower loli was the one that made the initial call to Kimble's office saying that they lost track of the targets. In other words, Kimble's B team was dead/incapacitated the moment they received that phone call. It didn't connect in my mind until I tried figuring out why flower loli was talking in a fake voice to Dorothy, and I realized it was because she needed that voice to lure the other dudes out of the room. So, not only do you have to pay attention to the split second frames they drop on you, you also have to pay attention to the split second voice clips. Jesus, I'm so fucking hyped for the next episode.
