Yep, somehow I can already imagine how messy this thread will turn out. Anyway, really happy about seeing OPM, Kingdom, AssClass and Souma with increasing sales year after year (or half year in this case but you get the point. On another note, it will be interesting to see where HQ! will rank by the end of the year. |

I don't know I think it's good to see some new IP's come out that can top the usual classics once in a while. I don't expect it to last but it points to some health in the manga market. Health that I'm really not seeing in the anime markets lately with steady downward trends in revenue. It feels like lately every media entertainment market in Japan has been showing at least some form of growth (games, music, manga) except for anime |

Ever since the 97 (Asian) economic crisis that dealt a significant blow to Japan's economy, its policy concerning so-called soft power has been shaken quite a bit, bottom line being that the craze to improve and innovate has dwindled significantly. This doesn't mean that creative initiative died and I'm sure many can point out major soft power products that succeeded but generally speaking there was a decrease. Lately many areas are trying to revamp their image to try and bring back their past glory but anime in particular seems to have lacked the energy to follow suit. That being said it is certainly a positive sign for the industry in general to see a recent manga succeed like this and maybe it will provide an example, but who knows? |

Lately many areas are trying to revamp their image to try and bring back their past glory but anime in particular seems to have lacked the energy to follow suit. That being said it is certainly a positive sign for the industry in general to see a recent manga succeed like this and maybe it will provide an example, but who knows? I think the problem with the anime scene is that it's far too reliant on other forms of media to try to generate its success, particularly the light novel market and while it's arguable that they kind of help each other out a lot of the time (it feels like anime does more to help light novels profile than the other way around though making it more an example of just give than give and take) it feels like it's been leading to a continual stagnation of ideas. I don't feel like the individual studios have much power any more save for the old guard that can still produce original content, but it seems like only a handful of those are really doing particularly well at that anymore and those are the ones that are trying to go multimedia on everything from the get go like Sunrise. Almost all the power in the anime scene seems to be hyper concentrated in the hands of two publishers right now though. Aniplex and Bandai Visual. Both have vast stores of resources and the ability to take things to a multimedia level as well as their own studios that are direct subsidiaries to handle their flagship titles, just one seems a whole lot more cynical and blatantly cold corporate than the other in terms of it's approach to overall production while the other it feels like is often putting in the hard work and genuine passion even if their shows don't always go for that cutting edge feel quite as much and the end goal is clearly still the same in making the maximum profit over time. Also one of them had a key staffer from their direct subsidiary studio commit suicide a few years back in a wrongful death case that just wrapped up last month citing overwork and poor working conditions while the other did not and it's staff seems to be actually enjoying working on some of their more recent output and like they have the time and drive to put in those little extra touches with the episodes. Basically it feels like one sees it's target demos, popular I.P's and staff as nothing more than pure numbers and resources to be exploited and milked dry as quickly as possible for maximum short term profit while the other seems to at least be making some attempt to foster more good will among it's target audiences and plan out it's IP's long term while making sure it's audiences and staff don't totally burn out in the process. I leave it up to others to decide which is which though. The suicide story really does not do any favors for the industries current image and quality of life of it's workers. |

It was expected that Shingeki no Kyokin would sell more than One Piece. Its popularity is at an all time high. It has had two volumes released compared to One Piece's one volume. Also throw in the fact that all of its volumes going back to Volume 1 are still selling. I think it might actually have a shot at selling more than One Piece on the whole year as well. Kuroko at number 3 is awesome to see. Diamond no Ace at 7 is awesome as well. Assassination Classroom at 8 shouldn't be a surprise, I hope it gets an anime soon. Shokugeki no Soma in the Top 20! Awesome! It sells more than Toriko (which isn't even in the Top 30 list LOL). I think its clear which is the better cooking manga in Weekly Shonen Jump. Now if only the editors noticed it. Nisekoi in the Top 10! Nice! Haikyuu just barely missed out, but it will definitely be in the Top 10 buy the time the year ends. Terra Formars, Norgami, One Punch-Man, I'm also happy to see these here. As for Light Novels. Mahouka selling well is great, I'm happy it sold more than SAO. Though I'm not sure how it'll be at the end of the year. Both Sword Art Online and Sword Art Online: Progressive are selling well, and Accel World is in the Top 20 as well. Reki Kawahara must be rolling in cash at this point. Strike the Blood just missed out on the Top 10! I want my Season 2! Same with Hataraku Maou-sama. |

I read about the SnK sales about two days ago and it didn't surprise me with its successes. Hell, I read at one point that the author even talked about changing the ending or something because of its popularity. Anyways, I'll probably buy some copies of it soon at my local bookstore. KnB also doing well and third season was recently announced too. I wonder when this series will end though as it's been dragging a bit. But yeah, I'm pleased with the top 10 so far. Out of all of them, only Ansatsu Kyoushitsu hasn't gotten an official TV anime adaptation yet. World Trigger got one recently despite having less chapters than it so it'll probably be a matter of time in the future. Terra Formars @ rank 13 so far. I think that will change by the latter half of this year, especially when the show airs during Fall maybe. I'm also pleased to see Yowamushi Pedal (Season 2 confirmed baby) and Haikyuu up there on the chart as well. As an underrated series up there though by volumes, I hope Sakamoto desu ga? goes up in the rankings in the future. Not surprised by the LN rankings with NGNL climbing its way up. There are some titles on the LN by volume that I don't recognize though. |

If One Piece releases 2 more volumes this year it will surpass Snk, sad that the only chance it has to beat OP is that Oda has to be sick :( Toriko will be in the top 15 when the full year list is out :) Shima took some time off earlier this year. Manga sales are increasing all around :O that's great, look at how much million+ sellers there are and we're only half way in the year:D |

Damn look at those SNK sales.. It was just a matter of time.. I mean alot of people kept saying it for the longest Fairy Tail dropped considerably.. Kind of ironic.. It was still in the top 10 during its worst arc now arguably one of the best arcs in the series it's at 18th.. Doesn't really matter as long as Hiro keeps delievering in this arc it should be fine Where in gods name is HXH.. Oh that's right...Lazy ass(Roxy's voice) |

Nisekoi is not too surprising but I'm happy either way. I didn't expect Noragami though, it's not that high but I think this is still good. Light Novel Sales by Series *1. 814,638 Kagerou Days *2. 651,405 Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei *3. 592,669 Sword Art Online *4. 519,732 Monogatari Series *6. 331,987 Sword Art Online: Progressive *9. 255,348 No Game No Life (Kadokawa) 12. 236,474 Log Horizon 15. 178,055 Black Bullet 18. 168,701 No Game No Life (Media Factory)] I like all of those so I guess I'm more happy with the LN list than I am with the manga one :D |

That moment when you realise that every single one of the manga top 10 receives boosts from anime adaption, with the exception of 1 of them. I wonder just how strong AssClass's sales are gonna be once it does get an anime. |

It's not just because of OP having a volume while SnK has 2. The anime adaptation helps and give a noticeable boost for all its volumes. That kind of boost will just happen once. Still, SnK became extremely popular in Japan and went viral on the Internet is a better representative than some of the other series before it. It's a good thing. |

MadaraUchiha69 said: How would it motivate him? Like others have said, it's a temporary boost and One Piece only put out one volume the first half while SnK put out two, and the one that One Piece put out sold like 1 million more than the highest selling SnK one. One Piece overall has still sold like 10x as much. And Oda takes those breaks because of his health, not motivation.Hopefully this will motivate Oda a little more and take less breaks. live2win said: Well for anime adaptation, only once. Excuses, excuses. -_- . I heard a lot of people were saying the same thing last year, and also saying that " snk sales will drop next year because of having no anime" wrong! I do agree that attack on titan is having a advantage because of older volumes, but don't think that snk is far behind one piece, vol 12 and 13 sells over 2 million, including the limited edition for both volumes. So just expect sales to increase, don't not be surprise by next year to see snk selling as much as one piece. The only advantage one piece will have over snk is because one piece will have 4 volumes and snk will only have 3 for the whole year. |

It sold 11.7m copies in the second half of last year, so yes it did drop, and with 2 volumes out in this half year against 1 in that, that's a big drop in backlog sales (although this was obviously expected). Incidentally One Piece sold 10.2m copies in the second half of last year, with 3 volumes released in that half year against 1 in this. |

The rankings are from the "2014年上半期文庫TOP100" (2014 Half-Yearly Bunko TOP100). Clearly some of the "bunko" books in the list on MAL are ones that are not considered to be light novels by Oricon. There is a "2014年上半期ライトノベル(BOOK・文庫)TOP30" (2014 Half-Yearly Light Novel (Book/Bunko) TOP30) Ranking, which consists of books and bunko format books that Oricon considers as light novels. I have posted this ranking list in the news club (on June 2nd): http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1192247. This ranking actually goes further down to 69,983 threshold, as it only has light novels in it. |

Overall sales are more spreadout it seems, which is a great sign. As for OP and SnK: One Piece has less volumes out.. which is kinda important because a single 4 million print can make a difference. Details, people... Not that it matters, the sales for One Piece can't rise forever because the market is nearly saturated when it comes to the franchise. You can't top 100% market penetration. Shingeki has more room for improvement there. Same in the long run, because I can't see Shingeki overcoming this 300 million sales cap in a while. I also doubt it will last as long as OP, which has still well over 60 volumes left if the current pace continues. |

We are in the first half, Attack on titan sold over 4 million last year, this year it sold over 8 million, that doesn't look like sales drop to me. Also if attack on titan make just 7to8 million in the second half it will have a higher ranking than last year, which was 15 million. Before jumping to conclusion that attack on titan has drop in sales, wait until the year is finish to see the full result. To add to that, attack on titan only release 3 new volumes a year, while one piece usually releases 4 volumes. |

How can Silver Spoon NOT get a third season when the manga sales are going so well! |

Good sales for Shingeki no Kyojin, it'll be interesting to see what'll happen if the eventual second season gives it another increase in sale. Still, I think it's quite unlikely for the series to remain on top by the end of the year, although I imagine the difference won't be too large. Anyway, One-Punch Man sales are quite good. Hopefully an anime adaptation is at least being considered. Also, have the sales decreased for Gintama since the anime ended? |
5 main aspects I base my ratings on: 1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it? 2. Is it better than Breaking Bad? 3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it? 4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL? 5. Is it actually good? Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant... |

Yearly, huh. Damn, of course Shingeki no Kyojin will be number 1. Just look at that sales *^*, but I think Isayama Hajime deserves it. Anyway, awesome list!! |

Not even a month has passed and New Testament's vol 10 joined the ranking. What can I say, that's really expected. :3 |

In Terms of LN sales i am really happy for Black Bullet, No Game No life and Log Horizon Log horizon was a bit of a surprise, a good one but i never expected it to rank so high :) No Game No life certainly got a boost in sales thanks to the anima adaption, i just hope this means we will get more seasons in the future. Black Bullet The LN sales are good but the anime adaptation did not do the series justice, to many things skipped and rushed. AS for Manga Series, i still cant believe SNK topped One piece i never tough any series would be able to beat it. Tokyo Ghoul is selling quite well already and if the Anime series is adapted right u can expect it to be in the actual top 10 or even best sellers of the year soon. i am also expecting a boosts for black butler seeing as the next anime series will adapt the material from the actual manga and one of the best story arc within the series itself on top of that. |
