"Elder Tale" is a long-established and popular online game: but the day in which was introduced the 11th expansion pack, 30,000 Japanese users have been confined to the world of the game. In the world that is a fusion of reality and the game, our hero Shiroe begins his fight from the city of Akiba.

No reviews for Log Horizon? How was that possible?!
Story: So these tens of thousand of people around the world were playing a game, then they got pulled into a fantasy world, that greatly (!) resembles the game they were playing. While becoming their game character. This is something overplayed, you see it everywhere. But!! Log Horizon isn't about beating the game (SAO), nor is it about conquering the world (Overlord).
Log Horizon is about creating and managing an actual society in a fantasy world. They talk about politics, economics, discrimination etc. What happens if your game character were of a different gender? Can you kill an
NPC? Can you r*pe them? Log Horizon is about players choosing to live with, or fight with the natives of the world they are in. It's so much more than "just another of those stories".
Art: The art is surprisingly good. It's really detailed and clean, it really shows you how the characters charms and personal quirks makes them who they are. Some have that one smile that's like the sun, that one guy with scary eyes etc. These illustrations is among the best light novel pictures I've seen. It's not just to show how someone look, it displays so much more.
Characters: So, Log Horizon has many characters that play big parts. Obviously there's not very much originality to these personalities. The friendly, loyal best friend. The quiet female ninja that protects everyone. A man that seems evil, but actually does what needs to be done for the benefit of the people. All these characters have been seen before, but they are still very well done. The lack of an "Antagonist" might be a bit sad, but all in all, the characters are all realistic and interesting.
Overall, Log Horizon is a story for those that want strong world-building story. There are action and adventures, but the strong point are still the fact that they, the "players" are trying to live together with the natives, "NPC's". Factions form and fight, but with no real goal to accomplish, this is a very open story that simply wants to show you the world they are in. Along with the hidden clues of what, or who, actually caused this whole Catastrophe to begin with.
