Well I guess Harada had it coming. For showing his attitude like that around his teammates, he gets picked on by the others.

In the meantime, I kinda like how they use the game with the battery analogy. I'm also starting to like the coach slightly more, he's tough but still very serious about the team and wants them to succeed. Good episode again, hope to see some competitive games soon.

It was surprisingly good
I don't know why his senpai is always nervous like that, maybe only to show Takumi that he is TWO years older than him (top kek)

At this point, it should be clear that Takumi has been treated the wrong way from almost everyone. Deal with his personality then.

Gou doesn't like to be bossed around, yet attacks Takumi for not obeying retarded orders. Really?

I wonder if part of Takumi's refusal to cut his hair is to do with his mysterious illness from last episode? If he had cancer or something, I can definitely understand why he'd be so defensive about going bald.

Come on, Tomura, as the coach, you of all people should know to wear a helmet when batting, even if it's practice.

Anyway, I'm not even upset about Takumi's attitude anymore. While I do believe he should respect his elders, because that's just the proper thing to do, I can't blame him for behaving this way due to the way he's treated. It seems like everyone, from his senpais in this episode, to his coach over the last 2 episodes, and even his own mother at times, loves to over-exude this sense of superiority just because they're older. I get it, because that's how Japanese culture is, but these characters always look like they're taking it too far. And then they wonder why Takumi is so rebellious......

Hopefully we start to see some baseball games soon......

I felt like Gou was just being defiant due to not knowing how to deal with anger when he was telling Takumi that he wouldn't let Takumi boss him around. All Takumi said was "let's play catch," which is really no different than when Gou woke Takumi up before sunrise to play catch. Takumi's face when rejected was so sad to look at, given that he's usually expressionless or angry. Glad Gou and Takumi were able to revive their relationship though, the drama between them wasn't dragged out. Takumi was right, he doesn't need someone's permission to play baseball, he just does. And everything turned out alright, with Kaionji telling the coach to see Takumi's skills for himself.

Too bad about the Nobunishi though, he's super salty. I mean I would too if I knew (or had a feeling) that someone hit me on purpose with a pitch to try to get another player, who is a freshman, to catch instead. It is a blow to self-esteem. But Gou and Takumi do work really well together, Gou made really calls. Even if the coach hit the last pitch, it was foul.

It was interesting when coach Tomura went to visit Takumi's grandfather. He does want the best for Takumi, but he also wants Takumi to listen to him. But he can still do as long as he only tells Takumi about baseball related things instead of things like cutting hair. I do like how the grandfather said that Takumi is not the type to listen, he's free-spirited and that's how he's gotten this far. It's sort of ironic that while the grandfather understands Takumi, he was "harsh" about saying that Takumi's play doesn't get him excited, whereas Tomura doesn't understand Takumi, but does get excited about his talent. Will Tomura be able to show Takumi the fun in baseball?

Also, shout out to Seiha. He's super perceptive for his age, a lot like his grandpa. His positive attitude makes me smile after all that tension.

Nobunishi needs to calm down, I really hope he's not planning anything that will end up badly for Takumi...

Oh yeah and OP lyrics, I feel like maybe it's from the POV of Takumi? "I've heard it so many times t's not going to work out. That nothing will change even if I pretended not to listen." Maybe that's why he's that way to Seiha as well? For whatever reason he's been told that (by his mother and possibly his father?).

This is so bad, the pacing is horrible, I don't care if it is like that as well in the manga because, really nothing worthwhile happened, everything that has happened and the stuff that will happen in episode 5 could have been done in 2-3 episodes.

Seiha is making his way up on my list of the shittiest characters.

Takumi's attitude is shit af, also what happened to Gou being mad, they are suddenly back to being friendly.

Honestly, Dia no Ace kind of set the bar high, when it comes to "Baseball" anime.

Takumi's grandpa said It's possible Takumi already peaked as far as baseball goes and I doubt that's the case, but tbh I'd love to see how Takumi deals with being left behind and his talent disappearing.

If I forget that they are supposed to be first years in middle school, it's pretty enjoyable.

I wonder what Takumi's grandpa meant about Takumi not growing any more than this, though. Not sure if I like where it's going, but if it means Takumi's character will be given some more very much needed depth, I'm in. The captain is way too nice, though. That vice president gives me the a really bad vibe though. I can completely understand his hate for Takumi, but I hope he's not planning anything stupid...

Ugh that vice-captain is a problem. I thought he was a follow-the-rules type who was just a stickler for details when he brought Harada to the teacher's office but he's such a jealous prick. Beating up a first year really? Bully.

And Gou is still pissing me off because he was actually the one in the wrong from the last episode. And all of a sudden he seems fine with Harada because it looks like the coach is gonna let him play? Clearly he only really every cared about getting to play or not. I thought he had a problem with Harada himself but he's just a brat.

On another not I don't know why people don't like him but I love Seiha. So cute.

Pretty good episode. The senpai's are annoying. :|

I'm still on Takumi's side, You can't expect him to obey orders all the time. Everyone wants to control him, It's expected that he'd be a rebel. Go basically wants to be a rebel but ends up giving into the guys with seniority and everyone else basically wants to impose their opinion on others especially Takumi since he's defiant.

The coach is basically dictator who wants to be in full control of the team because he believes his way is always the right way. Worst part is the players obey him cause if they don't, They don't get to play. Judging by how the vice-captain guy shut up immediately after the coach intimidated him proves that all the players are in a way oppressed. It's nice that he wants to teach Harada and he sees potential in him but honestly if he wants to control him I highly doubt he'd be able to bring the best out of Takumi. When I compare him to someone like Kataoka from Diamond no Ace the coach seems like a shitty person to me XD. Then again the genre of both shows are different.

Can't believe all this is happening in middle school, The hegemony of power is way too overt for a middle school.

My favorite part of the episode was the grandfather telling the coach to teach Takumi that baseball is fun rather than cultivating talent.

Gou doesn't like it but does anyway because otherwise they might kick them off the team, that's why he gets angry at takumi, if they can't play all of that was useless

Definitely not.
I think so too and it's the worst kind of melodrama for me personally because I don't like any of the characters. Except for gramps, maybe.
I'm only holding on because of how short the series is and because the art is lovely.

That's pretty much my problem. Because of how blunt and mean-spirited the script is, basically every character seems like an asshole. The only characters I can actually stand are gramps and Takumi's brother.

This anime is really strange. As much as I love the artistic direction (very soft atmosphere, beautiful scenery, charact design simple but appealing ) as I do not like any of the characters.
Takumi, 12 y-o arrogant and selfish boy who thinks he's a pro baseballer (after watching Ace Of Diamond for so long I can't take this guy seriously!). The twisted and devious coach (let me fiddle you and take you by the hair). The jealous and hateful senpai (I smell the gang rape lol!). The little and annoying know-it-all brother.
Gosh! they 're all unpleasants! I expect to see more baseball matches tho (if match will be! Lol)
Meanwhile, I'm puzzled and increasingly dubious of how to deal with these characters.
I just love Gou because he's the only real kind dude of the band even if I find him a little too obsessed with Takumi (he should know the difference between having a crush on someone and wanting to play baseball!)

I'm more interested in how the coach will coach them from now on.

The grandpa seems convinced that people get good if they're having fun and talented. Takumi sees his talent diminishing if he isn't constantly practicing or thinking about baseball.

Hes a little too adamant to think he should be starting considering that hes a junior. He even goes against hes own advice "you don't get picked to play, you just play" Then why doesn't he just be quiet and play?

I think the competition phase hasn't really started just yet and I'm looking forward to how he deals with that.

The characters writing is down to earth and more focused on realistic teen psychology, so basically the opposite of what a lot of people seek in the medium. (wish fulfillment and cheap drama with uguu girls)

I'm glad Gou isn't going along with whatever Takumi wants. Since Takumi's attitude really rubs me the wrong way. But I didn't like how they went back to being friendly with each other after what felt like just the couch being ok with them maybe playing. And I don't really like that the couch was even alright with considering that because it lets everyone else on the team see that oh it doesn't matter if you don't listen as long as you have talent. I feel like the inclusion of mean upperclassmen is there to make viewers feel better about Takumi not listening to other people. I really hope we get to see these characters learning to work together soon.

If you can't tell, I'm having some difficulty liking the characters but it certainly makes for an interesting show. :P

Takumi is such an ass towards the people who are kind to him. His coach, the vice captain and his stupid clique are all fucking annoying but so is Takumi. I'm sure people will defend him to the death and justify his actions but there's no problem in being civil when dealing with people who are doing their best to be kind to you. Don't justify it either by saying he's young, his classmates are the same age as him but they're not a complete asshole like he is.

I can understand him acting like that when he's dealing with the real jerks like the vice captain of the baseball team and his stupid lackeys. However, Gou and his three freshmen friends are really nice to him also I'm sure they have their own problems but don't project it on other people. "Oh woe is me. Emo teenager. Nobody understands me. The world is against me."

Still, his coach does believe in his abilities and is willing to train him. He and his coach are a perfect pair. Asshole pitcher + asshole coach.

My favorite characters are the gramps, Seiha and Gou.

Man this show's really got it. I like how the characters are sort of stumbling around for answers. There's moments when they'll make a point and other times when they're just flat out wrong. For example, I think Tomura is in the right to call out Takumi's attitude. On the other hand, trying to turn him into an obedient Yes-Man is missing the point that the grandfather eloquently made: To teach him how to have fun with baseball.

And on that note, I like the point grandpa made about adolescence. How that period of growth can lead to so many questions and shouldn't be written off as all figured out.

Coach is not reasonable... It's almost like "If you don't jump off a bridge, it means you win't listen to me in the game" like what?

I understand if he ignored coach's orders during the game and it would result badly, but asking someone to make a physical change, something very personal, is just dumb way of judging how well someone will listen to you.

And butt hurt sempais should get out of the picture. At least team captain is reasonable.

The coach is still a dick. He seems obsessed with making this kid submissive to him. It would be understandable if there was an argument about anything of substance, and the kid wasn't listening to him about something important like training, teamwork, etc. It's the fact he's fixating on this kid's haircut and getting the kid to bow to him on issues that are meaningless.

I'm aware of the cultural context, but it's still messed up and still makes the coach a dick.
