Both are set in a world that is quite normal on the first look (one is a bit more futuristic though) but involve supernatural occurrences, like magicians or people with abnormal powers. The atmosphere is quite similar, though the plot of Shakugan no Shana is a lot darker/heavier at the start of the show.

It wouldn't be surprising to see 'Strike the Blood' popped up in people's minds if they had previously seen 'Toaru Majutsu no Index'. In terms of superiority, 'Toaru Majutsu no Index' is the master while 'Strike the Blood' is the apprentice in a world filled with various supernatural beings. Both these series demonstrate that with teamwork and perseverance, battles can be won by either single-handedly overpowering your opponents or having support beside you in the most dire of situations. 'Toaru Majutsu no Index' draws upon different perceptions from various characters not to mention multiple main ones who could form a connection with the viewers with only  read more

Mahouka Kouka no Rettousei features a fusion of magic and science where magic has been made into a science. In Toaru Majutsu no Index, it features a similar fusion of magic and science, although admittedly its more of a science vs magic thing. Personally, I find both fun and entertaining to watch because of that combination ^^

A boy meets a special girl and finds himself dragged into a world of danger that he previously didn't know existed. Both boys, Touma and Shu, find themselves fighting against an enemy to protect something. Great art, great characters, great music. Both worlds have a similar feel that draws you in. As they say: "when science and magic meet... They will beat the crap out of you." Although I'm not sure if there's magic in Guilty Crown yet.

Both main characters have some god-defying powers and throw crazy punches. They both have strength that all other pussy main characters dont have, starting off strong and staying consistent throughout the anime

Cute little girl = magic book directory; she's in the care of a male who doesn't know much about 'that sort of thing' but accepts his new lifestyle. The above is the most importiant element of both series's, however the simalarities end there... Dantalian features the two amins traveling together, meeting unusual people and solving obscure mysteries. 'Index is an action series which features a case of familiar shounen character types.

420 - Both are similar because they feature a reluctant, impotent but extremely invulnerable high school male main character, who continuously finds himself saving (passive) aggressive females who become enamored with him. Though Toaru Majustu never really commits to just one female, and Bakemonogatari is more sexually charged.

Random guy who is kind hearted, meets cute girl in random circumstances. Girl happens to be related to some kind of supernatural power, and thus boy gets thrown into a choatic world of fighting, action, complex strange new principles, etc.

One of the main things that makes them similar is a whole super power thing. In both series we have a girl who can teleportate and a guy who can nullify any of those attacks.

The protagonists Shiro and Touma are both all about protecting and saving others regardless of any consequences. They both have limited amount of power but somehow manage to survive many fights against most powerful villains. The character constellation in terms of romances is quite the same, the protagonist is living with his main female compagnion and has another tsundere-type love interest which is more loosely connected.

Both are under the same author, but different main characters and different view points. Both tells of a view point of one of the characters that interacts with each other once in a while and tells what each of the characters know about the hidden secrets that both have no idea of.

Protagonists and plot really strook me similar. Plot of the two anime centers more or less around MCs beating up bad guys in their one-in-the-world city of wonders > both Leo and Touma have an extremely rare power > their powers are somehow similar (can no-sell most opponents, but are not OP) > both have bad luck and end up getting kidnapped, having to fight etc. > Touma is friends with a bunch of magicians/espers, Leo joins the main punk-beating group. > are #1 at needing a hospital every arc The difference is that Touma is more idealistic and brave, Leo being very smooth and kind to all. In both shows, the main protagonist gets a whole new view of the world. Namely through Magic/Alchemy and Death Gods/Restorations. They end up in a difficult plot, which can get themselves or the people they want to protect killed. Both situations get out of control as a higher evil organization starts to meddle. Both action-packed, with the needed amount of humor and variaty of characters.

Both series deal with mature teenagers going through a great struggle to achieve some bigger goal, going to particular adventures, fighting for their lives. Both spikey-haired idiots - Touma and Ueki - have a certain view on justice. A boy ends up living in a school dorm with a certain girl of great pivotal importance to the whole series, whether he likes it or not. Both takes place in a danger-laced city made up primarily of students being the majority population. Both protagonists unfortunately frequently find themselves risking their lives in dangerous situations by facing murderous adversaries, for the people they care about--despite claiming or wishing; to be just ordinary high school students.

Both have a relatively normal, academic underachiever high school boy with supernatural abilities having to protect a mysterious girl with a mysterious power who is introduced at the beginning of the show. There are plenty of other secondary characters in the show, some of whom are good and some of whom are evil, who have unique powers of their own. Male MC coincidentally meets a variety of attractive girls and solves their problems for them, to the point that it is lampshaded in-universe. Yeah, they're both typical light novel stuff, and they're similar enough in theme to bring the other to mind for me. It's hard not to believe that this anime original is heavily inspired by Magical Index. Both protagonists have almost copy-pasted personality and background, plus both worlds revolve around magic and technology, where religion clashes with politics. However, I personally enjoy Index's plot and world building a lot more (which kinda makes sense, this anime has 3 seasons + tons of spinoffs), while the animation quality and action scenes in Engage Kiss are a lot better. It feels like both series begin on the same starting point but each one heads towards a different direction, so enjoying or disliking one of the two doesn't imply that  read more

But both Gintama and Index are light styled series, involved in "modern/futuristic" worlds (Gintama shows a modern Edo Period governed by the Amanto, Index shows the futuristic Academy City secretly controlled by Aleister Crowley). Both main characters (Gintoki and Touma) seems to not really care about the governing factions (Bakufu /Scince) or the hidden factions (Joui / Magic), but they have allies in both sides, supporting them when they have to fight. It's tough being a schoolboy who can't catch a break. Then suddenly, you find yourself surrounded by women who only want what's best for you. Touma and Minato are very similar characters. Granted, their fighting abilities are different, but their women pack an equal punch. Standing up for those they love and fighting against an entire city-controlling government as well as some other factions. No shortage of women getting punched in the face either. Equality!

Kinda similar awesome art and animation. There are levels(breaker) that we didn't know. There are some cute lolis like Rose and Misaka in To Aru Majutsu No İndex.

It seems me that esper abilities in Index/Railgun are very similar to Needless's abilities here. And Touma's "Imagine Breaker" is as unique as Adam's "Memorisation".

This is similar to To Aru Majutsu No Index because, it has a sort of supernatural feel and also it has something to do with church.
