I had no idea about that side of Voltron and it's been so long since I last watched that Toei anime. I remember thinking about the way Voltron portrayed planets (hand-painted atmosphere on each one) back in second grade and I also thought about exploring different planets someday. Back when hand-drawn or traditional animation was still around. It was aired one last time in the late 90s before K-Mart got those Gundam Wing action figures in bulk. A Sailor Mars fangirl that I know is a huge fan Gundam Wing, by the way (currently hanging out with her true love and second cat).

I also can't believe that I missed out on Beast Wars during first grade. One of the first CG animated cartoons with those famous Canadian dubbers included.

So yes, I remember watching those dubbed reruns on a hand me down TV before cable was all the rage (I would sit glued to my old Sanyo to watch anime on G4TechTV, Anime Network or Encore Action).

As of late, I'm all up for unconventional space operas and space westerns too, new as well. Making new space operas in comic book format is much easier these days. Hollywood only cares about Star Wars and animation is expensive. Would be nice if Saga could have the Invincible treatment or getting the Gonzo Witchblade treatment (literally sad ending). Again, animation is expensive.

I love the fact that Saga explores existentialism and fate, the two major themes of Big O. I also want to explore the consequences of untested experiments in Black Science and watch the space-time continuum get altered. Watching the universe or reality get all screwy.

A semitomboy that I haven't seen in years would have wanted Paper Girls on her birthday earlier this month (revolves around the cycle of time and history, kind of like Rahxephon). Also a huge fan of space operas that read many manga I've never heard of like Lindbergh which never got an English translation. Instead, it got a German one.

The only untranslated manga that I read was Silent Möbius. I love how instead of going the conventional or mainstream cyberpunk route, it introduced demons, the lucifer hawks, from another universe. Reminding me of Hellboy somewhat, though the Russian cultist failed to ravage his own planet during WW2. Then the futuristic exorcists that worked for a nearby police department to fight lucifer hawks. Solving mysteries like real detectives, finding out about things that those lady exorcists didn't know about those demons from another universe.

Other than that, said semitomboy from the mid Atlantic and I both read Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin. It's been like forever since I last read it. Made by the same guy that made Venus Wars.

Venus Wars is proof that we need more space opera manga. I just love Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's artstyle, by the way.

That and even Hyper Police, though being a whole different genre, are one of a kind.

Anyway, I finished re-reading Silent Möbius in its only language already. I also can't wait to explore other mold breakers of its respective subgenre in the world of indie comics. Looking forward to reading Private Eye some time. Can't wait to see humans rebel against digital technology as opposed to digital technology being worshipped in old 80s cyberpunk. Who needs surveillance and spyware anyway?

Unconventional cyberpunk aside and more importantly, how long has it been since you last watched Gundam Unicorn?

Too bad the game made by From Software (like an old friend of mine since the days of my brother and I blasting each other in good old Armored Core) is Japanese only. Based on the first five episodes IIRC and why did it have to be exclusive to PS3?

Eh! I already got 6th grade Japanese thanks to Eriko Sato and so glad an emulator for PS3 is already available. I managed to get through the Japanese copy of Wild Arms 2 (arduously reading through Japanese text to understand Brad's awesome story and I love a decent amount of western).

A Malaysian girl (played as a knight at the time) I haven't spoken to in some Korean mmorpg in years definitely watched Gundam Unicorn too. She also spoke very good English at the time and I recall SEED being her favorite. I wonder what she thinks of space opera in general and I would gladly recommend her Descender assuming she loves exploring the theme of systematic breakdown, one of the main themes of Dot Hack.

I can understand if she has ever grown out of Gundam or conventional mecha. Very predictable genre at times and from a themes standpoint. Probably watched SEED Freedom as of last year mainly for nostalgia (the animation is a bit subpar to Fafner The Beyond).

I prefer a new kind of action or sci-fi too, TBQH.

On the other hand, I've been playing retro games this year (currently replaying Arc The Lad 2 because it's very climatic stuff; I'd give part 3 an 8/10 and I love the BGM Cave in the Waterfall). I already explored Suikoden 2 and have yet to explore the original from 1995 (know more about Ted's story). May Yoshitaka Murayama RIP and class warfare is one of my favorite themes to explore. Rare in conventional entertainment, but I'm open to many different themes like duality and parallel lives from Madlax (literally original).

Anyway, that's all I have to say for now.

Hi, I'm trying to start a club for critical and knowledgable anime fans. I came across your account in the “Anime History Association” club and you seem to fit the bill. The two purposes of the club are to foster community via the club Discord server, and to create a robust poll of the "greatest anime of all time", voted on by members in a thread on the front page of the club. Each member would post their personal top ten list in the thread, titled "Post Your Top Ten", and then eventually I will compile all the lists into a final aggregate. Here's the link to the club if you're interested: https://myanimelist.net/clubs.php?cid=92948

And post your list of the ten best anime of all time here: https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=2208449

With that said, are you studying Japanese too? I can't wait to master the language via books so I could read said Kia Asamiya manga more comfortably.

Hi :3 Saw you like making lots of review

I made a club for organizing and discussing reviews https://myanimelist.net/clubs.php?cid=88153
If you're interested please join and make some threads, i'm trying to grow the club, if not that's ok too :)

Also read your profile, i have trouble reading subs too, i forced myself to learn when the new Digimon season was released and had no dub, best way i found for me was to just memorize as many japanese words as a could so i didn't have to read every single word in sub xD

And you write fanfiction, of Digimon, and WINX!! I'd really love to read some, clicked on your link but couldn't figure out where to click to read the fanfics

I couldn't agree more and people shouldn't judge more obscure "shounen" manga. Silent Möbius is labeled as shounen, but it has some degree of romance. It also lacks cardboard cutouts as often seen in the world of battle shounen, isekai or harem things.

I don't pay a great deal of attention to shounen, shoujo, seinen or josei as long as the manga is original. That and lacking in cardboard cutouts. Yes, I really want a character that is out of the ordinary instead of riding coattails, appearing to be wearing a cookie-cutter protagonist's clothes or exist to create trends.

I also prefer antagonists to be brand new with different motives. Being loosely based on real criminals.

Oh yeah Hikari! I wanted to know what you like most about Romi Park.

It's been like forever since I've seen her starring in anime.
Kurt_Irving Jun 16, 2023 8:41 PM
Oops! I meant out of the way, but you know what I mean.

As for shounen, it's a broad and confusing term. At least that's what I found out eventually.

I wouldn't lump School Rumble, Silent Möbius or Hyper Police with the likes of Demon Slayer, Black Clover, One Piece, Hunter X Hunter, Boruto, etc.

Yeah! Those battle shounen things. Most of them can't make it to my top 70 on my Anilist favorites.

I thank my friend from North Carolina for recommending that site to me years ago.
Kurt_Irving Jun 16, 2023 6:12 PM
Hi Hikari! So how are you doing late spring?

With said Digimon manga (I agree about Daisuke's appearance) out of the day, I decided to read School Rumble which I heard about in an old Ragnarok Online forum post. As far back as 2007.

Yes, I've heard about it that long, but at long last, I finally decided to read it.

My Ontarian friend is a huge fan of the series by the way.

Despite having already read Trigun Maximum, it's still good news that Dark Horse Comics reprinted that manga. That manga should have been made into a movie franchise like the EVA Rebuild series with Badlands Rumble's animation. Would be nice to see some actors perfect for Elendira and Livio.

With that said, I'll do what I can to update my manga list.

Welcome to the club "10,000 hours" !!! I hope you share your favorite anime music and characters with other members.

I meant the Sorcerer Hunters manga which is one of the best that I read as of late. As you can see, that Xebec adaptation of same name is also incomplete.

So far, I've been reading Digimon V-Tamers and replaying FFX-2 (on PC).

Said Digimon manga is very underrated alternate universe stuff and I think that I'll read Hajime no Ippo until a future Macross movie finally gets announced.

Thanks for replying by the way.
