It could have been ok with the CGI but the framerate was sometimes horrible
I think I won't get totally used to it, too bad it's not in 2D

It's a shame, because the story and the characters seem really interesting

I am coming in as an anime-only viewer and thoroughly enjoyed this first episode! I have found myself really disliking a lot of the herbivore characters...snobby, pretentious and prejudice (at least this one goes with their natural instincts against hunter/carnivorous animals so at least it is somewhat warranted). Can't wait to see where they go from here...

Really don't get why everyone's tryna hate on the animation... The CGI here is breathtaking and really takes advantage of the medium. That transition between Tem's eyes and the carnivore approaching him? Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique.

Like... this is a TV series, not a movie. You can't sit there and be like "well it's not as smooth as Pixar so now it's bad". Compare it to other TV CGI animation. This is clearly superior.

I've never understood why people hate this animation style.

It looks amazing.

For the story of this first episode though, amazing 5/5 I fucking love this.

Ok gonna go watch it now and report back on my thoughts :o

EDIT:

Just a quick one

CG is pretty great but sometimes when they are still just talking there is some sort of frame drops

The story seems like a murder mystery type deal

overall i thought it was ok will give it another 2 eps and see how things are.

absolutely loving it so far. great concept, i know a lot of people compare it to zootopia with encapsulating different human traits in an animal body. the cg fits very well, don't think it would've been any better with 2d animation. just like houseki no kuni, the cg might've even upgraded the look a bit

Wow, this easily exceeded my expecations. The concept is really interesting and something totally different. The potenial for all kinds of conflicts and the surreal atmosphere, I'm ready for something great.

Visuals are also quite appealing.

It wasn't as weird as I thought it might be. The characters actually feel like characters with their own individuality and it doesn't matter so much that they are animals. I wonder if maybe I'd still prefer to watch a story about humans but I guess the concept strongly connected to predator thing wouldn't fit otherwise.
At least it's watchable so far.

Honestly having this on 3dcgi makes this worth watching. Some of the cool sequence wouldn't been possible to acheive in 2d imo. Hard to say anything about story and characters but the banters were weirdly interesting.

I really loved this. I think they did a good job introducing the characters and the plot for the first episode, even with the changes. I enjoy that they showed a glimpse of both Haru’s and Legosi’s struggles and ended it with him attacking her.

This CG is honestly the better ones I’ve seen. I really like the manga like frames and stylistic choices.

This is one of the few manga I’ve read in years and I absolutely love the story so far. I don’t think the anime will disappoint!

I am an anime fan for 11 years but I rarely watch ongoing series. I prefer to wait and see the response on the TV series and then watch it on my own pace. For some reason, I got interested in what this autumn brings to the viewers. Apart from new Fate and 2-3 more shows I was not really into new stuff. But ended up watching 10 or more autumn ongoings. The subject in the matter: Beastars. They caught my eye a few weeks ago and I was sure I will not watch it, yet as you see this show became a part of the TV series that I currently watch. And oh boy, it is great. The music, backgrounds and animation are on top. You can see it is CGI but it is smooth enough to not irritate the eyes. But what I do not like is characters design, especially the main rabbit. I know she is kind of simple girl and doesn´t suppose to be beautiful, but in the end, she is terrifyingly ugly. If you print screen her in a scene, where she is alone I would be scared of her rather any carnivore portrayed in the show. IMHO it is awful design. Otherwise great show and I will continue watching it.
P.S. Not a furry.

I honestly didn't have a lot of hope for this one, but this episode was great! Legosi and Haru are both pretty interesting characters, and the story had me really intrigued. The CG isn't even that bad, in my opinion. Sure, it looks a bit out of place, but it honestly doesn't bother me in the slightest and I think it even works in the show's favor at some points. I already really want another episode, so I guess it's time to binge the manga...

1. What a weid complaint to have honestly ? I mean, did you saw someone make the same comment about any work relating to antropomorphic animasl in the history of this media ? Not that it wouldn't be an interesting take but it's just weird ...

2. The fact that you tried to judge the whole run on the first 100m is kinda hasty to say the least. No, replacing them with humans would completly undermine thematics that were to be brought for the next few episodes. The story just wouldn't work anymore.

I mean, shame for you I guess ...

1. If it is an anime about animals, they must sound like animals. Not much to discuss here... If it was something like One Piece where animal characters are just 1-2 characters - they'd be fine without post-processing. But if you're making an anime all about animals - yeah, you need to find some way to make them sound that way. I cannot take it seriously when these animals all sound like regular anime characters wearing animal suits.

2. No comment. Replace them with humans and it'll be the same thing - yes.

It looks to have an engrossing story and for that I'm already invested. But even the though the cgi looked good, the frame rate was slow/choppy and the out of sync voice acting is hurting this anime.

All right so I enjoyed the hell out of that episode. Dialogs were great, visuals were surprisingly good and expressive, OSTs rocks but the directing is downright fantastic.

I'm really interrested in this story, but since according to manga readers it changed a few things from the manga I'm tempted to read it instead of watching. I'll wait for episode 2 before making up my mind.

Studio Orange and their splendid 3DCGI hits again. Although it's not Houseki no Kuni levels of magnificence, it's still good.

Main protag Legosi looks certainly like a wolf beast, but deep down he isn't the carnivore. Meanwhile, rabbit Haru is the solemn kind, one bullied for her past. Would love to see their relationship grow.

Chapters 1 to 4 adapted according to protag's POV, no wonder it went distorted, but the dialog was coherent enough.

But whatever it is, the premise is interesting enough for me to get hooked. Definitely the premiere episode that I was expecting and more.

That's pretty much why I think most works needs to be adapted instead of just copy/paste the original source.

This means that it can stand on it's own and you actually have a nice reason to go alongside it's manga/novel counterpart to get different specifications/events and extra content too ^^

seems good enough to me jazzy music is slappin ,while i wont be the first to say the CG is solid enough i do wish it wasn't the main usage for the animation.

for a anime about antropomorphic animals the amount of prejudice between carnivore ,herbivore and maybe even omnivores but different breeds gives them a lot to work with.

Holy shit. Talk about an attention-grabbing first episode.

Going into this I didnt know any details relating to the staff, production, or source material of this series. But right from the get go I am reminded of Land of the Lustrous. Not only because of the stellar CGI, but the same sense of mystery that surrounds its unique fantasy setting and anthropomorphic characters. Also I swear Haru shares the same VA as Phos, but I cant confirm since MAL doesnt have the voices listed yet.

Besides that, I'm getting some similar vibes between their characters with how they are both near the bottom of the hierarchy and have a sassy attitude. Although, the treatment Haru receives from her peers is definitely worse than the light teasing Phos is subjected to in the beginning of the story. For me it makes her a sympathetic character right from the get go compared to Phos who you only really get attached to a few episodes in.

The protagonist also immediately won me over. Hes an intimidating but kindhearted guy who has been emotionally beaten down but still acts considerate towards the same people who ostracize him. I love how his relationship with Tem is shown to us with the passing of the love letter and the scene where he sits in front of the lecture hall doors. Had they hit us over the head with scenes that outright show them being best buds, I probably wouldnt have teared up. Also, the fact that he has to fight a real urge to kill and eat other animals makes their treatment of him very reasonable compared to other anime characters like him who are usually ostracized due to appearance alone.

Anyway, it has only been the first episode but I can already see why this series gets so much praise in the manga community. Definitely looking to be AOTS.

I was unsure about CGI for this, but while it could be better, I think it works okay here. There are some parts that stick out a bit too much though.

Gotta say they did a pretty good job at showing off Legosi as the big weirdo he is. They went through a few chapters pretty quickly, omitting some stuff, but it's not super noticeable.

Can't wait to see how some later moments get adapted.

lmao I can't stop hearing Sugimoto whenever Legoshi speaks.

Some weirdness here and there visually that did stick out.
I just love the scratchier artwork in the manga that the characters look too clean here for my tastes. (They could've beautified Louis a bit more... come on now.)

I'll keep my expectations average-ish. I don't have any real reason right now to be disappointed with this.

I wish they would have post-processed the voices so that they'd sound more "alien" and animal-like, because so far the voice actors sounded too human to be believable animals. I guess it'd be too difficult to post-process everything since this anime has only animals but still... They could find some way out, though - in video games it's easier to achieve the appropriate voices for animals because of games having less voice-work - Solatorobo, for example. As an option, they could have made two versions of this anime: one with voices and no post-processing and one without any voices (!) but with stylized subtitles. I think that would be an interesting experiment and would fit this anime perfectly.

Anyways, it seemed like a regular drama type of anime and if you take away the animals - it's nothing too special. I'll have to drop... I'm glad someone else enjoys it.

Oh, and CGI seemed ok.
Zootopia doesn't do this and that was a mega hit here in America, China, and Japanese. So I don't get why you need animal like sounding voices. I hope the English Dubs doesn't consider your idea.

Also give a show time to establish it and grow. This is why I hate people who drop shows super fast base on bogus assumptions.
I haven't updated in years but now I have changed that. I'll be free soon.

Honestly, I thought the CGI or the animal designs wouldn't be to my taste. Yet, I don't mind the designs, and the CGI isn't bad... last time I experienced it was Beserk, so this was quite nice compared to that. Maybe a little off with frame when it came to zoomed-out shoots. Also, the lining in the dark was a good touch.

As for the themes... well I'm a little familiar with it since Zootopia, but it's nice to see it without a Disney rating/quality, and bullying... don't think there's a theme I hate any more, so it gets me worked up without failure.

For characters, Legosi and Haru, I like the two. Although, the whole "underdog" and "girls hate" her trait is something I think many of us are familiar with, but I can excuse it due to the overarching murder story and the animals themselves. But I think their personalities are quite strong.

Overall, I enjoyed it. Less of a strong impression than No Guns Life , but that's due to slow pacing, which I have no problem with, 'cause it will pick up eventually.
"You know you've reached peak quality when a doujin is better than the actual source series." (Eg. To LOVE-Ru)

Just to list a couple of biases.
Likes: A good story, characters, writing, romance, a good plot twist or something that breaks expectations (In a good way), 'backstory' and justice.
Dislikes: Bad romance, too much fanservice, the harem genre, yuri, yaoi, and bad writing.

This guy must be a troll.

Not only those comments would mean he never watched Disney cartoons with anthropomorphical animals which doesnt sound like animals at all, but he totally ignores the occasional growls, the body language, and also the plot.

Which anime with human characters would have a conflict between herbivorous and carnivorous where there is suspicion of a carnivorous murderer?

Even if it was a cannibal murderer the context wouldnt be the same.

Anyways, don't expect me to read your next message, it will be ignored. That's what should be done with trolls after the first reply. Thanks.
