| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Off to a promising start. Anime adaptation feels more similar to Cross Game than Touch, though that's completely cool with me. One chapter adapted per episode. Roughly ~85 chapters out now. I'd like to see this get close to that many episodes... one or two cours would be a bummer. |

I was probably too distracted by the fact I was xwas watching some Adachi lacking the charm and colours of cellulo animation. 3/5 Is it me or was the picture "blurred"? I can understand why Touch is mentioned, but why Cross Game when nobody has mentioned Hiatari Ryôko! ? Cross Game doesn't seem to be such a major Adachi adaptation, just like Hiatari. @Unowen Adapting that many chapters in a single episode would go against the slow, calm way the mangaka has almost always told his stories. So many things were left non-animated and simply looked like paints shown one at a time. @Esofdiamon I got the same thought. But it's helped by the fact most new peoples idea of Adachi's work is through the Cross Game anime that was apparently using a higher adaptation speed than older series based on his manga, like Touch, Hiatari or Michiru. |

| Found this boring compared to Major 2nd and Ace of Diamond and even Oofuri. I can only assume it picks up later. The character designs and everything are also kind of simple and bland looking that it's hard to get into them. Ichiban is fun at least, and the brothers are interesting chemistry, didnt know they were related at the start too, questionable for shipping purposes, but... Also silly how they keep avoiding saying how they were related for the entire episodes. Poor ichiban. |

| Well, it was cute. The narrator thing was kinda strange, the story seemed not as exciting at first but the second half was alright, the humour is nice and I'm intrigued how this whole pitcher ordeal will turn out. |

| this mangaka really likes to tell the same story over and over huh? lol it seems to be at an even more relaxed pace than the others, so i guess we're in for a long one. i like the character designs, reminds me a lot of old anime. It's even more similar in design to touch than cross game. Judging my this first episode, its going to have a strong aesthetic too, which is pretty rare for modern anime. the narrator was really on the nose, but I think they're really trying to push an all-ages demographic even more than they did with cross game, so it makes sense. I doubt it will be that prominent later on. |
| To be honest I'm not sure about this "old" style animations and art style... uh... Look how good new Fruits Basket looks in comparison to that. Even Captain Tsubasa 2018 looks more like anime from new generation than this. Don't see it beatin Diamond no Ace in terms of popularity, not sure if it even can beat Major 2nd. Still I will be watching it because I didn't saw older anime/prequel. |

| Very good first episode....Not much to really say since it looks like we'll get some good character work and baseball matches/displays but I kinda like how it has an old anime feel to it visually But 2 things I wanna comment on: 1. The manager is a cunt (Like I get that this senior guy is the "ace", but do you really have to suck his dick every second and ignore the guys who are most likely way better than him -_- 2. Imma need someone to tell me how the brothers aren't twins, because I'm lost out of my mind by the whole concept of that lol |

| Yay. So we got this Cross Game feel with the twins setup from Touch :D So kind of like a MIX of Cross Game and Touch. And we get a series called Mix. Okay i actually forgot what was the true meaning behind the name but i guess we will find out as the series progresses. |

Just notice that the guy directing this is the one from Tokyo Ghoul:re, and he has one of the worst resumés I've seen in this site. Every single stylistic choice in this episode was terrible, from the use of that narrator, to those character introduction sequences or the "old-looking" transitions and effects. But the worst of it all was the pacing (and some of the aforementioned things seemed only to be there to waste time). Why only a 46-page chapter in the whole episode? It's like the polar opposite of Cross Game that adapted like 9 chapters in only its first episode. This episode is so devoid of content and goes so slow even the characters seemed completely lifeless. And well, I did expect the mediocre-looking background art and whatnot, so no complains there. |

| The narrator was a little bit annoying and Funi's subs fucking sucked but as someone who didnt read/watch Touch (i know, S H A M E) it was a pretty nice first episode. |

| Good season for baseball fans, with Ace of Diamond and Mix both airing. Cross Game is my favorite baseball anime, so I'm looking forward to this one in particular. Seemed a little slow, honestly, but nothing bad or anything. Just couldn't help but compare it to Cross Game's first episode, which hit like a truck and made us instantly care about the characters. Also, yeah, yikes at Funi's subs. Why so awkward? I'm tempted to switch to the dub. |
| I was pretty let down by this first episode to be honest. It's not that I think the series will be bad by any means, but there were a lot of "first-episode sins," including feeling the need to highlight and name every single character introduced, watching a character introduce himself in the same way to different people in back-to-back scenes, etc. Touch and Cross Game had wonderful first episodes that felt so natural; this felt really stiff, characters included. Art is what we've come to expect, the animation was good for the baseball sequences but feels like they cut corners elsewhere; Otomi looked frozen in place with her eyes wide open on a few occasions. The previous series weren't known for amazing animation and they had a lot of substance to make up for that, so this isn't a big issue... IF they can provide that substance. I did like that I don't know what to expect moving forward (haven't read the manga), I'm thinking it'd be wrong to assume this is just going to be more of the same compared to Touch and Cross Game (which weren't the same tbh, though I've only just started Touch). I'm excited to see where which direction this heads, but I'm going to temper expectations. Probably unfair to expect it to be as good as Touch or Cross Game, and it doesn't have to be to be a good show. *Also, I had forgotten it was released on Funi so I watched it with French subs but... the consensus here is leading me to believe I should just stick with the French XD |

| This is Adachi's best work and it's not even close. Hopefully the anime will live up to the manga's greatness though I doubt it since nothing can quite capture the panel flow. Music is a little grating and the direction leaves a lot to be desired. Voice acting is alright though. |

| Good episode. Unfortunately a lot of people will ignore this one thinking it's a sequel to Touch. Should be categorized as a "Parent story". Having it as a "Sequel" will only decrease the amount of people interested in the show. |
| Just to remind folks that this is about a high school baseball team going to Koshien, and the two brothers are still in second year junior high. We've got a lot of development to go through before the actual tournament. Some romances will develop along the way (discerning watchers have probably figured out that the easiest way out of the twins born on same day in different hospitals conundrum is if they are a blended family, ) and some major characters won't appear for a few episodes yet. |

| I only watched it because 1. I watched Cross Game 2. I watched H2. 3. I did not watch TOUCH. all 3 animated series is from the same author. Anime is about romance, friends, and slice of life over baseball. Baseball is not the main focus of the anime, but its only a subject to make use of slice of life theme. Seen both, i can clearly say, i watch this anime is not because of baseball, but because the slice of life the anime able to point it out, which i think is very boldly well explained and entertained to watch at the same time. |
