Not the best I've seen from Shinkai, but still an okay watch. It didn't hit me much emotionally due to how short it was.

It made me cry because my cat recently passed away.
And this just brought back all the emotions.
So i hated this and the only reason why i didn't give it a 1 is because it was beautiful.
If only the part with the cat had been cut out.

Really like it, the animation and sound tracks are really well-suited for this short piece of work. Only if this anime could be longer, it would easily surpass his other recent work "Garden of Words".

I came for the visuals, art and animation, as expected it did not disappoint. The story was short and sweet, but I didn't find anything new from this among his previous works except this one is focused solely on family. 7/10

wait so in the end they just bought a new cat... =.=
nice resolve there.

I liked the theme though since I can relate a lot... just wish it would've been a dog instead of cat.... makoto sure loves cats though....

Ha! My feelings exactly.
I watched this with my boyfriend : I thought of introducing him in Makoto Shinkai's work for a while now, and this was just the best option. I watched it yesterday: by the end of it, my eyes were really wet.
"Are you crying?" my bf. asked amused. I have to say, I just answered him "Can't you see? this thing is way too beautiful!"
He was convinced, though, of the fact that Makoto Shinkai is kind of good at what he does. He's currently one of my faves.

The little movie was absolutely great. I wonder how he does it, I wonder how is he so wonderfully capable of burning my heart in only 6 freaking minutes. It should be impossible, yet this is how it is. This short movie was great : the feelings it transmits are just way too intense, yet transmitted in a very subtle, gentle way. So painful. I loved it !

Your typical Shinkai. Loneliness through separation, same thing as always expect it's with family this time. looks pretty though.

sometime we think.. when we adult, we can live alone without parents anymore and live for yourself, but no matter how old you are.. your parents always love and care about you!~

so beautifully done, especially for just being a commercial

also
I watched this all the way through without realizing the cat was narrating and felt fairly sad/ touched by the story

then i realized the cAT WAS NARRATING......... and i watched it again and somehow that sadness tripled and now my heart won't stop breaking and i can't stop thinking about how much i miss all of my dead childhood cats help

This whole time, I thought the mother was narrating the short...
Anyways, the short was poignant and I think it speaks to everyone about talking to our parents more and keeping in touch with them as we get older.

I wasn't expecting to cry so much during a short movie.

We had a cat, he was 19 years old. He was there 24/7 for most of my life. He died many years ago, but when watching something like this, it still hurts.
I still miss him very much.

And I live alone and I hate my job.

So, yeah...
And now I've also got a headache from crying so much.

Animation was really good and the story was very good, the only problem is that it was short.

daughter and father brought together again by Mii's death was sad and yet heartwarming. I guess this anime focused on daddy daughter relationship and this was very mature and refreshing to watch.

there's something i love a lot about shinkai-san's works: if you watch all of his works, you're sure to find a connection between them, and more often than not, you'll find that in a more recent work, he managed to get across a point he was trying to make in an older work. i had this feeling when i watched 'byousoku go senchimeetoru'; i watched it after 'kimi no na wa', and to me it felt like in bgs he was trying to convey a message and a feeling that he only got to convey in knnw, almost a decade later. this movie on the other hand reminded me of his 1999 'kanojo to kanojo to neko', which had a similar premise: a drama surrounding (and under the perspective of) an old family cat. i hated ktknn tho hehehe and i also hated the 2016 remake, but i liked this one. 'dareka no manazashi' is very sensitive, subtle, heartwarming and sad, but in a beautiful, non-forced way, and it brought me to tears when i realized it was all about the cat! very cool
