Season 2 will be postponed to the Summer Season (July) later this year as a consequence of the COVID-19 virus hampering the production schedule "greatly".

What a bummer honestly (my most anticipated show of 2020, in fact) but it's completely understandable, in my opinion. Expecting more disruptions in the industry but here's to hoping this will be it.

How about you? I hope everyone will come to understand this.

Moreover, the release dates for the Op and ED of the season will be postponed from the originally set date of May 13th too, no surprises there.

https://twitter.com/Rezero_official/status/1236940574680395776

New Release dates are as follows:

2nd OP theme “Realize” song: Konomi Suzuki - August 26, 2020 (Wed)
2nd ED theme “Memento” song: nonoc - September 2, 2020 (Wed)

Edit: In case if anyone is wondering if the Henshuu-ban Programme (Recap Summary currently airing with 13 episodes) is affected by this, it's hard to say as of this moment, but Episode 10 is due to air on the 11th of March as scheduled so not for this week at the very least. Only a change of broadcast time on TV Hokkaido (30 minutes push).

At this point it really wouldn't be a surprise if the Olympics are postponed or cancelled as well. I expect more studios to be severely affected by this as well. Lerche and JC have already been hit really hard.

Glad I ended up messing up my PhD application and won’t be able to start Waseda until April. Don’t think September would’ve been good anyway.

Summer will also have shitloads of delays due to Olympics in Tokyo. Unless it will be cancelled.
What's next spring show to get delayed.

It's a sad news indeed but it's reasonable. I wouldn't be surprised if the worst happened and it is delayed up to 18 months or so. So many events worldwide are being postponed/cancelled indefinitely. Need to take care of themselves first so it's understandable.

I’m not sure how anime production works but surely most of the episodes are done before air date? Season 2 has been in production since early 2019, so the push back is most likely due to promotional scheduling conflict as well (merch, cafe collabs, stage shows etc). All public events that can’t be happening due to the virus. I mean two public events promoting the show were canceled already prior to this.

At the back of my head, I got feeling this might happen but you know I didn’t think they were going to actually delay the show.

production problems is what cause the delays more likely since China and South Korea are heavily affected by the virus too and we know this 2 countries are also the main outsourcing places of the anime industry

so expect more production delays of other anime

This is stupid. Have proper hygiene procedures at work. Make sick people take time off. Instead they are just going to delay anime out of fear. There is going to be even more cases of Coronavirus by July than there are now, so are we going to delay summer anime now too? Even if the situation resolves by fall, you're going to have so many delayed series it won't be possible to air them in the season, so shows will get delayed further, or delayed indefinitely. At some point they're just going to say fuck it, we're working anyway because we aren't making any god damned money.
Anime companies taking time off for virus fears, meanwhile lowly people like myself still have to go into work everyday, dealing with hundreds of different customers a day. Such a joke.

There completely different circumstances. Re Zero isn't being delayed due to low production value, I highly doubt that this delay will even affect the show much at all. SDS however should have stayed in the oven a little longer.

The only thing I'm surprised about is why they didn't announce this at the livestream a few days ago. Maybe it's because they didn't want to disappoint a live audience. Anyways, this is the second TV anime to be delayed a full season.

Really hoping Railgun S3 doesn't get more delays because of the virus going on even with the production right now in question.

That's the issue. Deen had barely a year to complete the project from scratch, while deadline was already set.

Here, however, fans of Re:Zero expect nothing less than a masterpiece, and I am fully willing to spend four more month to set it in stone.

No word on that. However, during the live stream yesterday, I believe they announced that it'll be coming out on the 1st of April (don't take my word on this though) so I'm guessing that's clear for now at least.

They'll either postpone it or they'll hold the Olympics with no fans in attendance like what Italy has been doing. I really don't think they'll cancel it because they already sunk a lot of money on the Olympics and they don't want their money to go to waste.
