| They do it and that's perfectly noticiable even in the censored version. The scene without censorhip only shows a belt in the floor, a hand in the bed and them face to face. It's like censoring 5-10 seconds in where anyway nothing is actually shown. |

| That was just so incredibly sweet. The word sex never crossed my mind, only making love. That's just how pure their feelings for each other were. I'm also pleasantly surprised by how well Arima's desires for Miyazawa were portrayed. It was completely organic and felt like the story of my life when I was his age. I'm impressed, it's hard to come by characters that become indistinguishable from real humans, especially on the topic of sexuality. |

| I don't know why people are asking if they do it or not since it's heavily implied that they did it, i myself didn't expect them to go that far so it's pretty refreshing for me seeing a couple in anime go this far. | 2019 here! Incredible as they went to the effort to censor what's by itself is acceptable by today's anime audience. I guess it's normal since this was ages ago. And imo the sex scene wasn't rushed, hell, by contrary it was the only logical next step even for a shoujo story. Now technical stuff. I liked the reference to Gunbuster in the similar swimsuit worn by Tsubaki. The one red with the vertical stripe. So far the quality isn't so bad and if you miss hideaki anno style, well, picture his urban images in your mind :D |
| This is Anno at full power! The directing on this episode is nothing short of masterful, the feeling and emotion that comes out from every shot and scene after the beach part! I just love it. Just amazing stuff The symbolism is great as well, easy to pick up on but still effectual. Easily the best episode of the show so far. |

Well, it's not Anno anymore :D But I agree that the episode was well-directed and overall great and emotional. I love how every time Yukino has bare shoulders, Arima thinks of something weird ^_^ I also loved that little nod to Gunbuster (Tsubaki's swimsuit), and the piano soundtrack is absolutely amazing and fitting for the scenes! |

| This episode is split between two topics: first we hear more about Arima’s family, then Arima and Yukino get physical. Arima’s back story was ok, but not very unexpected. Being bullied by his relatives for the sins of his father surely explains why he is so driven to excel. His father standing up for him recalls the scene with his teachers several episodes earlier. The second storyline felt more real to me. In short, both Arima and Yukino are age-appropriately horny, but they need to find the correct words to express that. In the end, I found the way they talked to each other rather detached; almost as if taking a third person view and explaining their own behavior. That fits, however, with their characters. They are clever enough and self-controlled enough to analyze themselves when unsure. I was surprised that the episode contained an actual sex scene. And again surprised, positively, by how well it was edited. This is not a hentai, so I am glad that, while they presented enough cuts of the characters to depict their inexperience and joy, they used mostly allegorical scenes, not body shots. I’d have to say that this is probably one of my favorite romantic sex scenes overall and compares positively to a lot of stuff I have seen in Hollywood movies. Although I do not get meaning of the hat reference. The ED and preview no longer use real life camera shots and voice actresses talking into the camera, which I am a bit sad about. |
