What the hell is this amazing fantasy adventure we have stumbled upon? That was a FANTASTIC first episode. One of the best first episode I've ever seen 10/10. Just WOW completely drew me in with an incredible world building and interesting characters. Can't believe I delayed watching this but at least I get to watch all 13 eps with no wait now. I can barely sit down for how excited I am about this series.

I am not sure why but the main character's mannerisms, actions and general personality managed to instil so much hatred from me that I am seriously considering dropping.

I never thought I would drop a show just because I hated a character so much.

@Reathonax

:D Doesn't it have to do with you being Kyon, the apathetic guy? Lel. But yeah her enthusiasm might be irritating, due to being thought to be unfitting to the scenario. But she doesn't yields... She's really determined, it's admirable. But being that young, she can't help being naive, which makes her decisions appear foolish. But thankfully, Reg's presence compensates for a lot of her incapabilities.

Oh lord, i was saving this up, waited patiently (i'm the type of gal who prefers not having to wait when loving something) until the 13 episodes were aired because i knew i was going to love this, but how wrong i was...

...this is beyond love, i adored it, it was a feast to my eyes and ears. Stimulating, enchanting, magical.

Mesmerizing first episode. I can only hope for great things.

Great first episode. Although 'Ghibli' was obviously the first word to cross my mind, the whole mysterious rural setting and the classroom/orphanage scene gave me slight Shinsekai Yori vibes too. It'll be interesting to see how far they can take this with the entire main cast being composed of little kids.

Pretty amazed to be with this first episode of this series! Quite a lovely atmosphere and setting I must say! I can't directly say that children were the best pick for the main cast and would perhaps be different with teens or grown ups perhaps?

But well this quite lovely and also really cute as it is now! Looking forwards to see what this series has to offer!

Child labor huh?

Sounds good.

It's very similar to Guren Lagann in that respect. In fact, both main characters start out digging...by jove, I'm on to something!

But anyways, this overall episode lived up to my wildest expectations and more. While I can't say I've read the manga, as my crazy college schedule usually gets in the way of such an activity, this first episode blew me away by it's overall captivity and quality. The opening scene abruptly drops you off into a discussion between two characters, which is symbolic for a lot of moves this show takes; as they usually show you the world and explain things afterward. The visuals are stunning and assist your eyes in more fully imagining each scene, the character's already have underlying tones of depth and individuality, and as many others have already stated, a lot of the best Studio Ghibli elements have been Incorporated into this. The music is unique and enchanting as well, helping the viewer to better view the story instead of distract from it.

So far, I think I'm giving this show a 10/10. Everything just worked so well, and it beautifully included little tidbits of pureness and energy into what can only be described as magical. I certainly hope the rest of the episodes live up to the high standard I am now setting upon it ^^

off to a great start.
the tone was so good that i stayed glued to the television, the sense of wonder mixed with mystery and beauty and the way the art and sound and premise meld together into this gorgeous looking pit-city. and i actually am glad i ended up trying it out.
I hear the second half is where opinions begin to differ. Yet it is starting on the right foot at least, but we shall see by the time its over 8/10

Whoa really really interesting start to this crazy-high rated series! It balances that moe cuteness with something dark and sinister lying beneath very nicely, can't wait to watch it to completion!

They established the setting, the characters, the clear presence of danger, and even showed how some of their equipment works all in the first episode. If only more shows could build their worlds this efficiently.

The first time I saw Made In Abyss, I thought it was made for well... Childrens. Then I saw that the rating is R+ From then on I will never make the same mistake again of judging too quickly before knowing anything about the show itself.

The first episode looked breathtaking, the characters are loveable, the visuals are wonderful and the music is wonderful! The most interesting thing is obviously the abyss. So Let's proceed...

Let's see if this is worth being my 200th anime.

So far it seems alluring...
I'm surely eager to witness more, but if it wasn't for the rating and the echo of the hype surrounding this, I'd be less compelled to push forward.

I thought this episode was ok, it has a great deal of mystery both with the robot boy and the to be seen lore of the world as a whole. but I still need to see more to see if I will actually finish this anime.

Kinda a okay intro. But, first.

  • Stripping a loli naked is illegal, no matter what she did. Shows that this world is a more messed up place. Stripping a loli is okay (in anime) only if it was accidental or if it was consensual.

  • That girl is bothering me. She is not FIT to be a archaeologist(This isn't a Indiana Jones movie girl. Don't excavate without caution .Stop naming people after dogs too). Why does this world encourage children to be archaeologists if there are monsters in the island and without adult supervision. Maybe this orphanage is nothing more than a cash cow(Everything they do is purely for profit.). Not allowing children to keep things is also WTF? Security sucks too.

  • Girl is a typical shounen protagonist who wants to go deeper or stronger. She just thinks that life is all love-dovey and thinks she will be on the side of the island where you can jump and prance around like a magical pixie horse, and do whatever the heck you wanna do all day long, and not care about going home.(Madagascar reference)

  • They put her in a torture room? IF they were that cruel, I would have gone Yuno Gasai on them a long time ago.

The design of classroom and that of the city is quite nice. It is highly impractical, but good. Did they really just design those classrooms in real life? And that hot air balloon too. Catching it from the top. Good impractical designs.

Has anyone tried dropping a stone or a boulder to see how deep the hole is? I am kinda surprised that no one has made an effort to fence the hole. That could be a better suicide location than a forest.

Without change,we end up becoming the very person we hate.

I was dead until the moment I met you. I was a powerless corpse pretending to be alive. Living without power, without the ability to change my course, was bound to lead me to a slow death.

Very good introductory episode and their world is very interesting. I also love the cast since I'm a sucker for cute stuff. This show also takes its worldbuilding seriously and things can get pretty dangerous. I'm already expecting this show is going to break my heart at some point. I can't stand seeing those children suffer.

Waiting for the second season of this show to come out (maybe it's a bit early to review this series), I see the first season to refresh my memory, going there calmly and without running. The lion's share, rather than narration, is the background and the soundtrack, and the sympathy of the characters; all the rest is well hidden to start from the story that reveals itself a little bit in the end and makes the vision of the next episode intriguing.

EDIT: I correct myself, I see this anime again, waiting for the movie to come out. Hoping that a new anime series will be announced.

This artstyle keeps switching around. It had a weird sketchy/blotchy look when the monster was chasing Riko in the narrow corridor. And then there's pretty clear hints of 3D CGI assets too.
