And how is Rakugo ? It's supposedly pretty good so I had planned to check it out some time.

Yeah, both shows were made by Gainax so I got them mixed up. I still think that TTGL is pretty good, through I like Eva and Gunbuster more.

ok i was just asking because on other profiles i can't see some peoples anime

I know! It's just that every now and then I get dissilussioned. I get worried that i'm "rating" and "thinking" about anime wrong. And also i find shows that bore me. etc

By the way you can see my anime list right?

I've got a recommendation for you, it's an old Gainax film which a lot of people have split opinions about but I would like to see what you think https://myanimelist.net/anime/1034/Ouritsu_Uchuugun__Honneamise_no_Tsubasa?q=Ouritsu

Hi,

Actually I have developed some alternative thought to what I had back when I wrote the review(s), but before I get to that the idea of Gendou doping Shinji was actually something that has occured in several wars already, and it's one of the reasons why so many vietnam veterans suffered from a variety of mental health issues for decades after. These drugs have been in use for a long time and their main purpose isn't to treat conditions, but to make the person taking them more compliant and willing to listen to "suggestion". They're part of a routine of brainwashing which movies like The Bourne Identity have touched on. Since these things already exist in the real world, isn't it at all possible that Gendou would resort to such methods to get Shinji to work for him?

With the very existence of humanity at stake, niceties like the mental health and wellbeing of a teenager would probably not matter in a military organisation. He'd have to follow orders or GTFO. This is something that was displayed much better in Top wo Nerae (Gunbuster) - which is why I make the point about Shinji wanting attention.

The other side of the coin is that Shinji wouldn't have been compliant with Gendou right at the start either as he should have shown some signs of abandonment issues. He would have either not gone to NERV, or he would have reacted violently to Gendou as soon as he saw him.

It's those and other reasons why I consider Shinji to be an attention seeker. Yes, he does have mental health issues, but they're not so severe that he truly wants to end his life. As I have stated before, if somebody truly wants to die then short of putting them in a strait jacket and locking them in a padded cell or drugging them until they're comatose, there's actually nothing much you can do except try to support them as best you can and hope and pray that they won't take that final step. If they truly want to end their life then they will find a way.

The final point, and one that I continue to maintain is a huge problem is that the only fallback option to using Unit 01 are clones? There are no other options like relatives of Shinji's mum who would also share some of her DNA? Given the technology of our time, and the concepts found in science fiction in general, if they can make clones then they can genetically modify people, which means that they don't actually need Shinji at all as a handy helpful soldier can undergo "treatment" to change their genetic make-up until they can pilot Unit 01. It's sci-fi so it doesn't have to be too realistic :)

Aside from those three points there are a bunch of minor worldbuilding issues (regular school drills in case of attack, publicity campaigns, curfews, etc).

Hope that clears some points up.

All the best!

Yes i understand, the ending also gave me a weird feeling, if it haven't been prepared since season 1 i would be kinda disgusted, also the cat story was totally unnecesary and bad managed.
