Just like last week did I enjoy it and I think that it has an interesting idea. But why are they making shorts like this? I understand that it's all about the animation and art, but it just feels like a screenwriter said "Oh you guys need a story? Well I still have some random ideas for a movie lying somewhere in my drawer that nobody ever wanted, so you can use those".

O well I'm suddenly feeling the urge to read 1984 again.

I wonder if any of the jp viewers still remember that tpp is a thing and could fuck up doujinshi, cosplay (ken akamatsu was talking about it - http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2015-02-13/akamatsu-speaks-out-again-about-tpp-copyright-issues/.84374).
Recently one part of the usa's traitorous congress, the senate rejected a fast track bill but less then 24 hours later approved a deal that gives them what they want which doesn't matter since obama won't accept any changes to tpp from congress.

Even if by some very unlikely miracle the anti-tpp groups end up being wrong and tpp is good for the average person everywhere (not just the US, everyone deserves a good life) doesn't I'll return to trusting any govt ever again.

If this gets adapted into a full TV series, it'll be so glorious!

That office lady reminded me of Tamura Reiko quite a lot.

this will be so drag out as a TV series even for a 1 cour show

so a movie or OVA version of this story will be better imho, the basic story of capitalism and TPP are there already on this short

I thought it was kind of overblown.

And overestimates the level of accord between China and the USA for the sake of making Japan into a sob story. Not believable in "201X".

It's a very recognizable tune...plus it's cited in the credits.

I think they thought out the plots for all these shorts, they're just either A) making them deliberately hard to understand or B) were challenged to execute them in 8 minutes. Remember that Hideaki Anno's the executive producer; Evangelion would make even less sense than any of them in 8 minutes. I'm guessing when I rewatch them a few times, they'll make more sense.

For this one, there are parts I really don't understand, but it sure ought to be clear that the plot is not some sort of warning about foreign powers taking over Japan. In this story, the greatest danger is that from within, from people who say they offer something that sounds quite good, a return to democracy and a "revolution of freedom". Hiramatsu was playing tribute to George Orwell, offering his own take on 1984; Orwell called the authoritarian party of Oceania "English Socialism", while he was a socialist who was proud to be English.

Couldn't help but think of the elevens in Code Geass.

This seemed to be focused on political corruption. Smoke and mirrors. I'm not sure if there was much of a story in that chaos. It kept me interested though. (what a slut)

This was definitely one of the better ones. Man, kinda unexpected & good in weird way. That artstyle reminded me of Kiseijuu ❤ Really liked the message in the end saying: "Let this tale forever remain a work of fiction..."

From what I can gather it's based off a novel. This tries to cram in the main points of the novel into a short film, which makes the whole thing feel confusing. The plot sounds like it would be interesting, even if it is a bit propaganda-like. The only thing that doesn't make any sense at all to me is GK being at the violin girl's house later on.

I was thinking about Code Geass aswell, especially the opening sequence.
This could be great material for a movie of some sorts.

Man, this was captivating to watch.
I didn't exactly get some of the specific symbolism, but the story they convey here seems far too prescient, especially with the current state of US political affairs.
Scary stuff.

That was quite...something. A number of nationalistic themes being played to the scenes of political uprising, war/death/poverty, a coup, and the subsequent violent destruction of Japan's government. Hell, there was even Auld Lang Syne being played to bagpipes at the end. I really enjoyed the visuals as usual, particularly with how each scene transitioned into one another, though the overarching message was a bit lost on me. I just didn't expect a work this heavy to sneak in, but I appreciate the cautionary tale it told. I suppose its short length benefited the message. As a full length film, it wouldn't have been as poignant. I see Tadashi Hiramatsu has done key animation work on the Ghost in the Shell series, but the short itself reminded me more of Jin-Roh for whatever the reason. Just...a lot more...blatant?

Someone has to hate China a lot there I guess. And there was even shot of Hillary winning an election what a joke.

All in all, not very good attempt on dark future and end of civilization. They just shuffled events time-wise to make this look artistic but it was actually just sum of all fears of modern Japan.
Yes, it was just meaningless propaganda instilling fear into people (to viewers). Not to mention it didn't work well as a short, it would need to be longer to deliver better and clear message.

"Subarashii" short!!!! Patriotic and wi th the background bagpipes driving the animatin, great!!!

I hope in the future we will can watch this short transformed in a film, not series, because the politic hidden plot is for a film, not a thriller series!!!

That escalated quickly xD That's high quality NTR right there.

A political apocalypse showing that humans will always find a way to mess things up is basically this. It looked like Jin-Rou a lot.

The part reaching the end was nonsensical tho. Nice message at the end.

Whether you see a message or a propaganda or just a tale no one hopes to come true, this short managed to fluently convey the feeling of fear, loss, helplessness and immense sadness.

A more interesting piece than the last ones, maintaining the same level of work in drawings and animations. The whole sequence seemed pretty well build too.
