Some awesome Daicon IV fanservice in this one, I like how they made it look like a VHS with screwed up tracking when it switched to that part, nice touch. The concept of hunting for rare outdated video formats is great.

Good bye Animator Expo, I hope we can see a continuation of some of the shorts in a near future.

Not the best of the shorts, but wasn't that bad either. A few of the episodes are worthy of being turned into TV/OVA series, and hopefully we'll see them come to pass someday.

Great final entry. Pretty sure the VA was Megumi Hayashibara who was Ai in Video Girl Ai, another call-out in this one.

The story seems like it was just thrown together so Kobayashi could pay tribute to the old Gainax, and Anno could put out his message to the anime world—learn from the past, to adapt for the future. But you've got to begrudge them that, after Anno's organized this remarkable series. He and everyone else who made this possible deserve much praise for reminding us what can be done with animation.

Is that a peek at the last Rebuild movie at the end?

wow on the credits i saw Trigger and Xebec, so they collaborated with this huh, i bet the Cel-Shaded 3DCG was done by Xebec but the storyboards or action plans was done by Trigger since its screaming Imaishi action

Power to protect the glorious era of VHS, Daicon style x)

What I really thought was nice and so blatantly true was what Yuri said to San-kun when rewinding the cassette tape, "Watching it rewind gives you satisfaction over how you enjoyed viewing something." It's these little things that make these obsolete media types all the more charming =')

It's interesting to compare the figures used for the sexy fanservice girl in each. The Daicon IV film is more subdued and subtle about it and this new one is more exaggerated and stylized.

I also never saw the beta-hunter girl shed any sweat.

This is likely the closest we will get to Daicon 33 and I'm glad of that.

Good episode. Didn't know it was parodying something in particular but now I know from the comments. I loved the part where it switched to the old format, that had a nice touch. And that fanservice.

So this series ends. Many episodes were good, some weren't, but most of them were really creative. A few of the stories could spawn an own show if you ask me. I'm glad I stayed with this and not just for MeMeMe!

They sure kept the best for last! Damn this brings me back when first watching the epic Daicon IV Opening! Seriously this really brought me a bit of nostalgy! Really great episode to be honest.

These overall shorts were great, really interesting and just lovely! All in all I quite enjoyed watching this series and many would be really nice if they had a full anime adaptation of some kind!

Well not my favorite but nice throwback I guess, overall I really liked this series some really fun and interesting concepts and some amazing animation, alot of these I would prefer to see as full series over a majority of the shit we get today , hopefully some end up getting a full series/ova or even movies.

Also is it me or did that giant robot look like optimus prime? lol

That was a pretty funny short, with the power of VHS!
Love the little touches like changing the art to the one from the anime tape they put in, or the distorted line under it.

I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by a few shorts :)
The shorts in order of enjoyment factor:

Yeah it is. She did the song too. Who's better to do Cassette Girl than Video Girl? Pretty awesome.

Bruh... they made the CG look like old video. That's pretty cool.

If there's one thing this Expo has shown, it's the evolving and improving use of CG.

Both Daicon and Star Wars references, good finale by still acknowledging their Gainax roots.

These were very enjoyable, very few that I actually disliked, just some that were less interesting.

"What the hell a I watching?"

As the last episode, I was hoping for something great to end it, and I"m not disappointed. Holy crap. The callback to Daicon IV, the Kamina glasses, the cheesy retro pop song, the complete disregard for scale, and it even has that tracking visual error at the bottom. Wow.

A new mech hads landed.
Dat ass.
LMAO Looking like Optimus.
Dat transformation.
Dat oppai. Dat ass.
LMAO The video changed.
Dat Beta flash.
Dat ass. Dat oppai.
Dat explosion.
Dat landing. Dat ass. Dat behind the back oppai.
She gets up. Damn. Dat ass too stronk. Dat oppai.
She tries to cover herself, but she can't cover up dat ass.
Dat ending.

And that was the end. A good finale. I enjoyed these shorts. My favorites were MEMEME!, Iconic Field, Hammerhead, and Tabi no Robo kara. I finally got to watch those shorts after seeing them a year or 2 ago after searching for them. I wish some of them got a continuation. It's up to the anime gods now.

This reminds me of how there was actually such thing as D-VHS in the late 90s that was significantly better than DVD, and compares to even modern Blu-Ray discs in quality and capacity.

DVDs won because of marketing.

The video format wars with more tasteful angles, and Trigger's mechs, signature explosions and general nakedness. It could've been handled better but it was okay.

It took me two and a half years to finish this all and it was a mixed bag but I can really see the potential in a lot of them and the creativity that just lies in these one-shots~
