Just to clarify, the book doesn't actually talk about CG (although it probably mentions it and I don't remember), instead it explores the multiplanar nature of 2D animation. Lamarre makes a very interesting analysis of what he calls the "animetic machine," which is inherent to 2D animation. I just think its relevant to the issue of the increasing amount of 3D animation in anime because the fundamental aspects for most of his analysis are lost in this transition (even though they could probably be preserved, but I haven't ever seen that happen). Also you may want to read Otaku: Japan's Database Animals before because The Anime Machine does mention it.

Btw, there are more of us (people who read anime books) in Pause and Select's Book Club (discord invite). This month's book is Jonathan Clements' Anime: A History. Feel free to join us if you will.

I haven't read that particular article, but I have a feeling that you will probably like the first part of his book then. How Lamarre talks about movement particular to 2D cell animation has literally changed the way I look at anime, and I think it may become more relevant with the increasing amount of CG being used.

Pretty cool to see a mod mention literature on anime on their profile. I haven't read any of those books yet (only the first few chapters of Frames of Anime), but I plan on. If I remember I may read your blog posts after I read them.

Are there any other books you have read but didn't write about? I would personally recommend The Anime Machine by Thomas Lamarre and Otaku: Japan's Database Animals by Azuma Hiroki if you haven't read them yet.

Rating too high=doesn't worth it
Rating too low=I can't do that because it's good

So tough love,am I right?
Swordarc Sep 16, 6:44 PM
Perhaps I just love moe girls and prefer Sol anime, therefore I just become an idol anime fan xD

I saw your rating is kinda strict, love live,k-on or idolmaster, they're all below 8,is there a reason for that?

Where does your username originate?

I mean, what's so shocking?
zombie_pegasus Sep 3, 11:59 PM
Nami is a whole other level of bad. It deserves a score lower than the normal scale allows.
Ericonator Sep 3, 11:40 PM
Are you really shocked?
Swagernator Sep 1, 9:45 AM
