Hmm... I feel like they could have covered more of how they developed their relationship...

Actually. The more that I think about it, the 13-year timeskip, even though it's a huge leap, feels quite appropriate. But I must say that I really do wish we could have seen more of Majime's relationship with Kaguya develop and stuff ;u;... Their relationship is just so heartwarming.

Still a really good episode, though. It surprisingly doesn't feel out of place at all

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT? We jumped over 10 years? I was really wondering why Kaguya looked older than before. I was hoping we'd get to see more of their relationship but I guess that is out of question now with her being his wife already. And apparently Nishioka was unable to re-join, too D: Majime surprisingly wasn't affected by the time skip or at least not as much as Kaguya. He barely looks different.

damn... I'm really unhappy with the time-skip >.> This dislike could only get worse if Nishioka turns out to be single again... I was really looking forward to more situations with him but the time-skip kinda changed that.

A time skip, eh? An intriguing choice. Nevertheless, it seems it was a fine decision, as the newly introduced addition to the editing staff will probably make the ongoing affairs even more interesting. As a side effect, the time skip also empathises the time and effort put into compiling a dictionary.

* A 13 year timeskip?! Seriously?!
* They just totally glossed over the fact that Majime and Kaguya are now married, and Kaguya is a restaurant owner.
* Is Obaasan dead now?

This show had such potential. I was willing to overlook the totally out of place dictionary tutorials, but this time skip that just barely threw in details of what's happened in the last 13 years has really annoyed me.

I think it was 8 because they had been working on The Great Passage for 5 years before he joined the team and they said they were in year 13.

It was clear that the focus wasn't romance. Coupling to dictionaries spending a lot of time,11 episodes..

Not a fan of the time skip. Too rushed... Ruining many chances of development just for the sake of coming closer to the finished dictionary. Bad choice...

I still love the show, but the time skip felt way to rushed. I even checked if i missed an episode because it felt so out of place (which also fits because it was part of the episode...). Nothing speaks against a reasonable timeskip, but that one was very rough around the edges.

Another great episode. The timeskip is surprising, everyone looks older except Majime (idk why but someone like him (his personality) always forever young XD. The new character is awesome, and I am glad that making dictionaries is still the main focus.

After I watched from 1 to 8, I come with a conclusion that Fune wo Amu storytelling is almost same like Drama series that based on real life.

I think he looks young, because he looked older to begin with, so he didn't change much.

Now we know why it isn't tagged as romance, they don't plan on showing any!

The time skip is good as far as the story of the dictionary is concerned, but I really wanted to see how their relationship progressed after that confession.
Also, Majime seems much more confident now than before.

Grandma - my favourite character is dead?! T-T

Also, what about Nishioka's gf? I don't see a wedding ring on his hand.
(Talking about rings reminds me of YoI ep 10 which I watched just before this XD)

The new girl is so much like majime :)

13 years timeskip, oh my good!

Well, I'm not completely against it but it takes time to get used and there are only three episodes left.
And I would have liked if they made the transition better. But I'm certainly glad they are aiming at completing the dictionary rather then open ending.

R.I.P. grandma and old cat. I even wonder if old professor makes it to the end.
I like the new girl (and the young paper-specialist too).

Still, 13 years had passed, Majime and Kaguya now married and in their forties, Kaguya having her own restaurant:
- they still don't have any child by now?
- I wonder if Nishioka is married too? With Remi? (or is he alone again? he didn't have any ring)

13 Years makes for a record timeskip.
Can anyone recall a major timeskip of more than 13 years in any show?

I personally do not like this.
Wanted to see the story unfold, but now everythink that was getting interesting has been skipped.

idk why a 13yr time skip lol that's so long. Surely there was something worth noting within those years. Even after a decade I'm sure a good portion of the dictionary would be obsolete tho, they haven't even finished it...hope this doesn't go downhill :/ Don't pull a SAO plz

also lack of Miyoshi gettin on my nerves :S

Wow the timeskip was out of the blue, 13 years is a long period and I understand that it was needed. As the characters goal, the goal of this anime is to achieve "The Great Passage".
I'm a little sad that we didn't see when Nishioka left and how Kaguya x Majime relationship progressed, but I hope an OVA will be released later.
The new employee looks motivated, she will make a good work.

Such a great episode. So many things happened and the grandma is surely dead :/.

I have nothing against the time skip but I think it would be better if they could give little more expositions for some aspects; relationship developments between the characters and their life, or more details about making dictionary and its steps. So we know that subsequent events that took place within the time skip were just repetitions of those details and progressions which do not hold many relevance to the story and need not to be fully shown to the viewers.

lol bro I was watching the first half of this episode and I noticed Kaguya looked different, and I was just sitting here like " Is this just me or are there bags under her eyes" "did I miss something here"

Didn't hit me till she said she was Majimes wife, and was like

had to rewind the episode, and finally noticed that 13 FUCKING YEARS HAVE PASSED

I really don't think that time skip was necessary ( it would work if it was the final episode , but this is episode 8, there are still episodes left till the show is finished !!!!!!! )

Wanted to see more Romance, but I guess we are not gonna see that :/

very mixed on this episode

when people complain about them skipping on some romance when this anime is about dictionaries in the first place....not romance...
you are watching wrong anime (and by that i mean right one because dictionaries are superior to romance)

13 years huh....it doesn't seem that long to me...time flies really really fast.

but they aged them up which is a thing you don't see in anime often

I'm sorta depressed. Normally I enjoy time skips but I didn't want one to happen so fast in this anime! It kinda feels like we've lost our connection with the characters--they're different now, they've experienced things! AND GRANDMA DIED T-T

(At least Tora is still alive)

EDIT: I stand corrected, after watching episode 10 it seems Tora died and was replaced by a Tigger?

I was not expecting the 13-year time skip at all.

I was kind of confused in the beginning, I started thinking it was a time skip because although physically Majime doesn't look all that different, the way he carried himself was. It's like he was more mature, more confident.

The new character Kishibe is interesting. She has the same talent as Majime, I think. Especially after that bit about "right" with Nishioka (Nishioka's really pulling the test Araki did on Majime lol). Although I would say that as a person Kishibe is far more sociable and... up to date? Majime seemed old fashion during his time, this girl is a fashion enthusiast. Her awkward interactions with Majime were funny. Majime just sort of got triggered by the word and just jumped at her asking her to define it, and she's over there trying to figure out what the hell is going on. She wasn't liked back at her old workplace, huh? I wonder why, it doesn't seem like she's someone who'd pick fights with everyone. Hope she's the boost that the team needs to further their work after 13 years!

I'm honestly disappointed we didn't see Majime and Kaguya's relationship develop and especially their wedding. I REALLY wanted to see that. But I guess this time skip does make sense, since it would not have been finished by the time they did get married and this show at its core is about the characters AND The Great Passage.

But it was interesting to see how everyone is after 13 years. Matsumoto is becoming ill (sounds like a warning flag, that's sad). Araki is working part-time now, caring for his wife, I think, if what was said in episode 1 still applies. Nishioka is still working in the PR department. I feel he's lost some of his energy because he's got older but all in all he's still the great guy 13 years ago! I'd really like to see his girlfriend (hopefully now his wife). Sasaki hasn't changed at all.

Majime DOES look older, and I think a bit more chaotic but definitely more confident. He doesn't panic or mess up that much in interacting with other people, and he speaks with a clear voice and tone. His interactions with Kaguya are really natural and sweet, they're a chill but loving couple. I love how their interaction is now. Kaguya really completes him.

Still can't wait to see more of this show despite the time skip, but still would really like some Majime-Kaguya relationship development from the past 13 years...

Also, Kaguya really aged! She still looks beautiful I think. Is that why Kishibe was so surprised that she was Majime's wife?

Also also, Kaguya has her own restaurant! How awesome! And her grandma's home is now their home and it's full of bookshelves (as expected).

Going from a fashion magazine to editing a dictionary would actually be pretty cool. With the expertise from fashion, Midori would be able to properly define fashion terms for popular use. That's a lot of authority to have, along with a lot of responsibility.

Also, the issue of paper type is an interesting issue to address. In addition to usability when flipping through pages, you'd also need to think about things like weight, paper longevity, printing costs, susceptibility to mold/insects/water, receptivity to ink, and recyclability. All this, and having to push them to the back of production while putting forward the short facts that higher ups care about: what the book looks like, and how much it'll make. It's pretty thankless, so all the characters have are their own passion to push them forward.

WOW that time skip was unexpected, they drew the characters really well. i love how natural & subtle everything is in this anime. and the absence of the grandma was just sad to notice, and once again, a subtle touch. there however seems to have been a decrease in animation quality, it was superb at the beginning. also, is the time skip really 13 years? i doubt it right, nishioka was already there for 5 years when majime joined. it should be lesser than 13 years

why did everyone say that nishioka didn’t have a ring. he was wearing a ring. you can see it when it pans out when majime was making his little speech at the welcome party. and again when he pointed at majime. (he wasn’t wearing one at the after-credits scene, but neither was majime) as for his “flirting” it’s probably just him being him

but i’ll probably remember over and over again
you were there and everyone else was there

Wow, that's a huge time skip. I don't mind it, in fact it kind of makes sense. I was wondering what else they could possibly do in the remaining episodes, and the time skip opens up all sorts of new options.

Although, I wish that they had given us an episode, or half of one, in the middle of the skip somewhere to cover some of what was missed. The abrupt shift kind of works, but at the same time, I think they could have filled us in a bit while keeping the same effect. Maybe some of that is to come.

Another great episode.

I won't lie, kinda bummed that we skipped 13 years of their lives. This show handles the characters and their relationships better than most, and I feel like I've missed some pretty big milestones. Oh well.

I am kinda scared that tragedy is about to strike the group. That bit where the professor was coughing felt like a flag.

Yeah, I didn’t quite notice at first, until I looked under Hajime’s and Kaguya’s eyes, and with that yes, apparently 13 years have passed! And I agree with most people here, when I say I would like to have seen more of the relationship between Hajime and Kaguya, and really all the characters actually. And the old man coughing? Yes, red flag, but since he’s 13 years older than he was at the start of the series, I guess not to be expected because of his age now. 😢

And someone said that the grandma was dead. I mean it wouldn’t be too surprising, but I never got confirmation from this in the episode. Or is this in the manga or something?
