Does an anime's soundtrack affect your rating/score?

How important do you think the music is in an anime series?

I think there are some shows where the music really helps to set the "vibe" or "atmosphere" to an anime, and it wouldn't feel the same without it. Then there are others where the soundtrack may be mediocre or atrocious, but if the anime is great in other aspects, it's something that can be overlooked pretty easily for me.

It can boost effect of happiness , sadness and paranoia for sure. But primary thing is that good ost/op can make me remember series more easily.

Yeah it can affect but not largely .

Yes. Mushishi and Zankyou no Terror wouldn't be the same without its music

Well of course, it's related to your overall enjoyment of the anime after all

That being said it's rarely a huge factor

Well I don't care about the music, just story should be good. that's all.

A soundtrack has a powerful influence on how one can enjoy a particular Anime; obviously it doesn't necessarily mean that a good soundtrack guarantees the success of a show, but it's definitively good to have.

This.

I think Guilty Crown is one of the few anime were it's a huge factor.

It is a factor, but usually the least important out of the factors that I rate out of since often times I forget the soundtrack of a scene after it's over so I'd have to rewatch it to actually judge it. Which I don't.

That's true. Not many OST get stuck in my head after I'm done with anime. But it's easy to recall characters, story, art and animation.

A good soundtrack is one of the biggest things I look for in an anime title, right behind plot and characterization.

It can make it better but since I rate overall enjoyment, it doesn't need to have a godly OST even for a 10/10 rating.

Hell yeah it does. Soundtrack is a part of the rating imo.

And also, if the anime has an awesome soundtrack it will go into my "great OST's" list on my profile, therefore the god damn producers should be fucking thankful to me, those little shits.

A good score can raise my rating, but a mediocre one usually doesn't matter if I enjoy the story and characters.

Shokugeki no Souma. The soundtracks complement the "foodgasm" scenes really well.
Angel Beats(or any other melodrama). LiSA's insert song both in ep10 and 13 would've felt much more less dramatic without it.

There is more in top of my head that I just can't remember yet.

Like you said, it sets the tone of anime. This is essential specially in series falling under the genre of music, drama, action, and thriller.

Soundtrack may not break your enjoyment of the anime nor admire it just for the songs/BGM, but it certainly adds to your overall experience in the animu.

the presence of a really good soundtrack increases enjoyment level.

For some the difference may be minuscule. Other times it could be enough of a difference that it becomes a major part of the anime like chihayafuru or shigatsu

A great soundtrack placed at the right moment can do wonders. Ping Pong had an amazing OST which got me even more hyped for the games.

It's very important. Generic, bullshit orchestras a sign the creators aren't focused. A soundtrack needs unique sounds that fit the anime. The music needs to be a part of it, not fade into the background.

Attack on Titan has my favorite soundtrack so far, even if the guitar riffs feel weird. It's clearly meant to be a part of the series, not just some white noise in the background.

It pretty much makes or breaks an anime in its own way.
Acchi Kocchi was terrible. Attack on Titan and Death Note are amazing in this respect.

A good soundtrack goes a long way. I wouldn't bite a show on the ass if it had a forgettable one, but in some it just creates great atmosphere and kicks action moments all the way up to eleven.

It can't do anymore than enhance what's already there, and do things like make emotional moments hit harder, make action more exciting, or increase the show's ambiance. It might be able to alter my score by 1 point but nothing more.

It kinda depends. For example shows like Mushishi or Shigurui, where the atmosphere is very important, wouldn't really work as good for me if they didn't have a good/fitting OST. In general though wouldn't I rate an anime lower just because it doesn't have a good OST. I can only imagine myself rating an anime lower for its OST when it's a show about making music or when the OST is just really unfitting. An OST is usually for me just the icing on the cake. It's the difference between an 8 and a 9 (or a 9 and a 10). Like others already said it can make the fights just a bit more exciting, it can make certain scenes more suspenseful and it can make sad moments hit extra hard.

Somewhat, the OSTs can be great factor for making a great atmosphere like Shin Sekai Yori. The opening theme and the ending theme can greatly influence the score for me tho.

A good ost affects my rating more than good animation, just like good/bad seiyuu performance. But they affect it less than plot and characters.

Yes sound does play a pivotal role in my enjoyment of a certain series and a recent example would be Ushio to Tora. Damn nice soundtrack xD

Yes. it will definitely increase the enjoyment or suspense or even sadness if it worked well with the scene. Also helps to leave a lasting impression.

The sound track of when something happens like a battle, death or parting helps to leave a lasting impression that you associate with that music.
