I'm so glad that Mariko didn't succesfully commit suicide :(.

I wish there were some update on Rei and Fukiko! It seems like Rei stopped coming to school. Also, yay for Kaoru! A voice of REASON.

I really am starting to think Mariko is my favorite character. Even when she was "dark and scary" Mariko earlier on, I just can't stop being enthralled with her character. I'm glad they are taking some time to focus on her.

But for some reason they only seem to focus on one thing at a time, which does leave you curious as to what the hell is going on with everyone else?

Aya is in the building for sure!! I thought she was transferred to another school or something coz she was absent in the last 20 ep or something.

Poor Mariko, I felt sorry for her... however thanks to Nanako , she was saved by the bell :-)
I really hope in the end she learns how to love Miya's brother.

God damn what an absolutely fantastic episode. This series has been very strong recently and, yeah, I could say Mariko is becoming my favorite character in the show. Never thought I'd say that at the beginning of the series.

Mariko said that a man leaving his family for a new lover wouldn't even make a good TV drama. Is that a joke about how this series started that exact plot-line but then just dropped it?

Sakiko Tamagawa did a great job performing the wordless gasps Mariko lets out as she runs from the revolving restaurant. It was a really effective way to show her disturbed emotional state.

Given the amount of suicide attempts in this show, I'd think it would start losing its impact, but it's carrying it well.

Wow, this was a really great episode. Mariko cutting Misaki was the greatest scene so far in this anime and she deserved it too.

Dear lord, I hated Mariko so much, but I felt bad for her this episode. Family falling apart is always hard even if the child already knows long before the divorce comes, but having it thrown in your face by a bully in public is so awful. That Misaki deserved more than just a cut to her arm >_> I'm glad that guy stopped her from suicide; a strong character like her can definitely come out better from this kind of adversity.

That f*cking Misaki bitch deserved to be cut. I actually cheered out loud when the screen went blank with the sound of the box cutter.

This episode was definitely hard to watch. Divorce is painful to deal with at any age. Having some dumb bitch like Misaki exposing that to the entire class would cause anyone to snap. If I were Mariko, I would have cut more than just Misaki's arm. Misaki's eyeballs could be stabbed for all I care. F*ck that bitch.

http://a.pomf.se/palape.webm This scene was so satisfying. And the later one when she cut her. A shame it was just her arm. Getting her face cut and having a scar for life is what she actually deserved for everything she's done. Wonder if she'll disappear from face of the Earth again after this episode.

Fantastic episode, great development for Mariko.

I like it that way, feels like faster progression for each plot line, instead of dealing with them all at the same time. Also makes the episode more memorable and complete this way.

Jesus parts of this were chilling to me. And where are all the teachers during the scenes in between classes!? Good thing the brother was there, I wonder where the plot will go since Mariko's probably going to get kicked out of the soroity and possibly expelled from the school and Nanako wants to resign.

One thing I don't understand. If her parents divorce, she must leave the school? As I understand now her father pay for education, and after divorcing, Mariko should live with him to continue educathion there.

Probably the best episode so far. Mariko is such a complex character, you just cannot feel indifferent about her. Sometimes she acts crazy and slightly annoying, but I still like her, her behaviour is pretty believable when you know her backstory and personality.

Also, this ep had really good animation and music, that scene with black screen and only sound of Mariko pulling out paper knife in the background... Stunning. I felt like I was watching some thriller, brr. Loved it!

For whatever the reason, the animation for this whole episode wasn't just improved, but consistently fluid. What the heck happened?

But yeah, uh, that was a, dare I say, top tier episode. Mariko snapped like a twig. Aya overstepped her boundaries, particularly with the worst person she could have bullied. I loved the use of the box cutter's retracting sound. It was previously established what it sounded like so that when we heard it again, we didn't even need to see it to know what was coming. Though, even with the show's track record of harming its characters, I didn't expect the show to spill blood in the middle of the classroom like that. If I had to criticize the episode, which I'd need to else I'd fear going full fanboy mode, I'm not sure about bringing Aya back just to serve as the bully once more. Or, to be specific, to be a stock character serving as a tool to break Mariko, if just to be tossed aside again once her use is fulfilled. I must admit it's satisfying to an extent, but I'm then reminded not only that these are supposed to be high school kids, but there have been school murders that used utility knives, and the one linked was Japanese no less.

It really takes me back to reality and makes this all the more tragic. The episode just gives me so many mixed feelings. Make no mistake, this was a fantastic episode, and it's amazing that the anime could create such a situation with no correct answers, but I...I just don' t know. At the very least, Oniisama e... is doing something extremely right if it's getting to me this much.

Seriously, the little sound motifs this show uses are really fantastic. The box cutter sound in this episode, and the sound of Rei crunching her pills are just... YES. I love you, Osamu Dezaki.

Fuk life Mariko. Ganbare Mariko!
The reaction of the class is so well animated. All the side charaters are given such unique and detailed movements!!
When Mariko leans on the handrail on hill, I thought Rose of Versailles would happen again! Then came Ichinomiya. Ok hope they become a thing.

So Mariko is going through what Nanako's parents did to Takehiko's mother. Was surprised it wasn't brought up.

Aya really picked the wrong person to bully in Mariko, but even then I didn't expect her to assault her. Though this anime doesn't shy away from physical violence.

Excellent direction and excellent use of sound. First the footsteps outside the room that Nanako was locked in inside the Sorority house. Now it's the clicks of the box cutter. This episode gets a 10/10. Mariko is the most dynamic character in the anime, and will most likely be my favorite in the end. Her acting in this episode was flawless. When she's happy, I like her. When she's miserable, I still like her. And when she snaps, oh yeah! Now this is how you drama! Aww man this show is the best. It may be dramatic. It may be upsetting, but Goddamn is it entertaining!

Hold on... I thought that annoying twat Misaki was hospitalised for brain damage, kinda wish Kaoru didn't stop Mariko there but still satisfying to see Mariko cut her at the end. Great episode from what in my opinion is about the best character in this series, the divorce is a step in the right direction to get rid of that scummy dad

Mariko, knowing Nanako thoroughly, tells her to pay no heed to their derogatory provocation, however, when she, Mariko, is the target, she is unable to ignore them.. While it was satisfying to see that scum go down, the consequences really bring me down. Takashi made it in just in time at the end though! I got really worried when she was about to jump.

The animation this episode was just spectacular, it was fluid and pleasant for the eyes. The directing, especially during the attack, was also brilliant!

Another episode another suicide attempt.

But for real, Mariko is currently my favorite character. Her storyline is enthralling.

I also like that Nanako isn't too hesitant about how to act anymore. In earlier episodes she would've concerned herself too much over what to do to deal with the worries of others. Now she's comfortable just being there for Mariko, nice character growth.

Wow this is heavy. The cutter sound playing when Mariko's alone makes me anxious hoping she won't die thank goodness for Tomoko and Nanako and also Takashi for arriving in time. As for that Misaki biatch she deserves it that's what she gets for being insensitive and pushing Mariko's limits. Mariko might seem psycho in the early episodes but she had redeemed herself now. And the irony that Mariko's parents divorcing due to another woman is the same as Nanako's but the difference is it's Nanako's mother who is the other woman.

Damn you, Misaki! You're the worst!

I don't blame Mariko for a second. If I had a utility knife on me, and someone set me over the edge like that, I'd likely react the same way.

Thank goodness that Takashi was there to stop Mariko from killing herself.

And here I hoped that Misaki gained some character development off-screen...

I don't get it, why Sorority membership means so little when it comes to Mariko and Nanako. I understand the jealousy in Misaki's case, but for the rest of them, shouldn't they at least outwardly express a respectful attitude, otherwise, what's even the point?

crazy episode... after reading the title, i was afraid Mariko kills herself. but when Misaki kept bullying her, i thought maybe she kills her instead. fortunately neither happened.

Mariko falling into despair now kinda shows how she grew throughout the series. like, you can't fall if you're already at the bottom (this is where she was psychologically at the beginning of the series). she now has friends who care about her, and she cares about them. it's interesting how Mariko staying at Nanako's goes with that earlier episode when Mariko tried to force Nanako to staying for a sleepover with her; how Mariko jokingly tells Tomoko that she's gonna take Nanako from her and they both laugh - when that's literally what Mariko was trying to do in the beginning. Nanako grew, too. she's more emotionally intelligent, and she learned how to stand up against abusers - even Miya who's like a boss groomer. Mariko defended Nanako in the beginning, and Nanako tries to defend Mariko now.

Audio production goes crazy here!! the sound of stationery knife with dark screen at climax moments? soo good!

the only thing i'm not so happy is inconsistency of Misaki's presence. she was literally absent for 10+ episodes. while she wasn't needed in Miya-Rei episodes because they weren't about her, it was weird to not see her at all - she's still Nanako & Mariko's classmate. especially during the moments of weakness for Nanako, who was scolded by teacher several times, missed the classes, and cried out loud during the class - these were the perfect moments for bully to strike for their victim. also it is said the week has passed since last encounter with Miya and Rei. surely because of sorority things, Nanako had to see Miya, was she just ignoring these memories that haunted her so recently?

speaking of Misaki, i hope there will be some backstory and character development for her (yes i'm still hoping for Otowa pipeline, though it seems less and less likely). for now, she's hardly a character; merely a plot tool to pressure Nanako and Mariko.

also, it was annoying when she started shouting 'murderer' at Mariko. it's a cut made with a stationery knife. it isn't even big, and it isn't on the side of the arm where the veins are. you'll live.
