Eromanga-sensei

One year ago, Sagiri Izumi became step-siblings with Masamune Izumi. But the sudden death of their parents tears their new family apart, resulting in Sagiri becoming a shut-in which cut her off from her brother and society.

While caring for what's left of his family, Masamune earns a living as a published light novel author with one small problem: he's never actually met his acclaimed illustrator, Eromanga-sensei, infamous for drawing the most lewd erotica. Through an embarrassing chain of events, he learns that his very own little sister was his partner the whole time!

As new characters and challenges appear, Masamune and Sagiri must now face the light novel industry together. Eromanga-Sensei follows the development of their relationship and their struggle to become successful; and as Sagiri slowly grows out of her shell, just how long will she be able to hide her true persona from the rest of the world?

Back from 4th rewatch, and yeah it is still one of the most fun and cute rom-com series you can ever get in anime.
2025 now, almost 8 years since then and I don't remember any fun "rom-com" anime can make me giggles from my heart and say "ahh, I really love this"
Even 100 GFs, Roshidere, BokuYaba, Quintuplets, AoButa, Bisque Doll couldn't make me feel this way.
Example of good Rom-Com since then I can think is Angel Next Door (I wished they would give it proper sakuga)

The strength of Eromanga-sensei I think is in its lightness, quirky cast, and details on the fanservice its target audience ... actually wanted.
Unlike recent rom-coms that relies on heavy plots at some point, every heavy plots Eromanga-sensei had were compressed into a quick light one, which I found really easy to digest and watch.

You know the plot point already: it's rom-com about Author(Big Bro) and Illustrator(Lil Sis) that became family and partner by chance, that makes a lot says 'yooo pedo incest baad'
... I know the plot sounds trashy, but I embrace the trashy plot to my heart. I would watch this without its lewd shots, because I found everything about it is cute and funny.
Like, most of us complaining about the weird tropes were probably highschooler~adults who watch people relationships in form of 2D animes or just life actions, isn't that already weird anyway? Therefore, I would watch anything that's fun to me.

To those people of "say no ALABAMA," yeah, just stay away.
To those who want to see cute rom-com, give Eromanga-sensei a try

Mixed Feelings

Throughout this series, I found myself involuntarily doing a few things (not in any particular order, some more than others):
1) Looking away from the screen because of really, really suggestive content
2) Seesawing between incest and not-incest
3) Thinking to myself, "The hell did I just see?"

It's a pretty normal anime with some highly suggestive sexual elements in it. and my gods it took me so long to realize that there wasn't going to be any incest (at least in the anime, I haven't read the manga. Yet). Would it surprise you guys if I was disappointed that there wasn't any incest? Sure its wrong and inappropriate, ... but I am sure it would have been a guilty pleasure of quite a lot of people on this site if it had.

However, this anime does in fact live up to its name as a romantic comedy, even as there are some really weird signals coming from almost everyone in the anime and the comedy aspect is based on a whole lotta almost-ecchi. Exhibit A: My first point, because the anime kept putting...very suggestive stuff, as I mentioned earlier.

However, I finished this anime, and what I am truly disappointed about is the fact that it only got an OVA and not a season 2. Even though the ratings for this anime are quite low, lower than average for a romantic comedy, it fulfills all aspects of a romantic comedy, has really great characters with good chemistry with one another with only the slightest bit of ecchi (episode 12 may yet prove me wrong here), and will make a lot of you laugh. If you like these kinds of shows, then this is for you!

Overall rating: 9.2/10 (Better than Kanojo mo Kanojo for some reason, even though there's a lot more suggestive content)

Let me set the scene: I started Eromanga Sensei thinking, “Alright, maybe this is just another cheesy romcom with some light chaos I can have fun roasting.” But instead, I ended up watching 12 episodes of emotionally confused storytelling, where characters talk about their “dreams” like they're chasing legacy while writing what is basically erotic sibling fanfiction. The vibes are all over the place—sometimes trying to be wholesome, sometimes awkwardly suggestive—and it’s constantly dancing on that fine line between oddly sincere and deeply uncomfortable.

I laughed here and there. I cringed a lot. And once in a while, I saw glimpses of something ... genuine… but they never lasted. It’s one of those shows that sounds like it has meaning, right until you realize it’s just the same handful of conversations wearing different outfits.

Story – 2/10

The plot? There isn’t one. Just two siblings stuck in a house, flirting awkwardly through a door while repeatedly saying “we achieved our dreams” like they're manifesting a Nobel Prize in softcore. If you’re hoping for legit character growth, real storytelling, or a plot that actually moves—don’t hold your breath.

This show talks a big game about dreams and ambition but puts in the bare minimum to back that up. It’s like watching someone shout “I’m chasing greatness!” while standing completely still for 12 episodes.
And the romance? Half-hearted. The drama? Manufactured. The comedy? Looped.
It’s not offensively bad—it’s just the definition of mid, dressed up in clean animation and soft colors, hoping you won’t notice how little is actually happening.

Characters – 3/10

I wanted to care. I really did. But outside of Sagiri being visually adorable, the rest of the cast felt like tropes dragging themselves through the same three conversations every episode. The MC is emotionally stiff, Muramasa feels like a toxic fanfiction character shoved in to stretch the runtime, and even Elf—who had one good backstory moment—slides right back into filler mode immediately after. I’ve seen mid-tier romcoms with better development, honestly.

Art & Animation – 8/10

This is the only category where the show shines. Sagiri’s reactions are super well-animated, the color palette is soft and clean, and that firefly-lit scene with Elf? Genuinely beautiful. If you’re watching this for the “vibe” and not the writing, I totally get it.

Enjoyment – 4/10

The early episodes had me hopeful for a so-bad-it’s-fun ride. I’ve enjoyed stuff like Kiss×Sis and OniiAi, so I’m no stranger to chaotic sibling anime. But Eromanga Sensei just... loops. I started watching at 2x speed just to survive. Every line felt like deja vu. Even the “deep” moments were carried by music and lighting, not character writing.
Sagiri being cute helped. That’s it. That’s the only thing that helped me to survive this one.

Final thoughts - 4/10

If you're here for the visuals, a few cute Sagiri reactions, and the occasional ironic chuckle, Eromanga Sensei might give you something to work with. But if you're expecting actual character growth, emotional payoff, or even just a story that moves forward—you’re gonna be left hanging.
This show spends so much time repeating the same ideas and jokes that by the end, it feels like it’s been running in circles. It talks a lot about chasing dreams, but never gives those dreams any real weight. And while the art direction does a lot of heavy lifting, it can’t disguise the shallow storytelling underneath.

At the end of the day, it wasn’t unwatchable—but it definitely tested my patience. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re here for the roast material, the memes, or if you’re a light novel author fantasizing about writing erotica with your little sister (please seek help)
