| Seeing that cameo of Oreimo, oh man, I miss watching that show. I had so much laughs watching that anime. Interesting backstory. They were both fated for each other from the start. I'm sure Sagiri will grow up as pretty as her mom. Masamune is such a lucky bastard! haha Anyway, I guess they are already aware that they were both corresponding with each other since 5 years ago? |
 I just realized that Masamune's dad resembles Kiritsugu Emiya of Fate fame. Anyways, this episode had two interesting ideas: the long-distance relationship between two kids via a web novel publishing site, and the Masamune/Sagiri trip to Akihabara via tablet. Once again, this is a story that could only be created in the 2010s, when the onset of independent amateurs web novelists and artists coincided with the growth of modern internet usage, childhood access to technology, and the ability to create meta stories about these concepts. I kind of wish Masamune and Sagiri weren't siblings as to fully explore a relationship not burdened by incest, but then again, Eromanga Sensei as a story doesn't seem to really care about incest as a taboo. Compared to Oreimo, where incest was a core issue up to the very end, Eromanga Sensei seems to not bring it up as much. Additionally, Masamune makes a point to turn down every girl that tries confessing to him, making his clear focus on Sagiri apparent. On one hand, I'm impressed that despite the easy setup for a love polygon, the series instead maintains the focus between its main pair. On the other hand, I'm not sure if having the sibling relationship was really necessary if the show doesn't bring it up that much. At the moment, it feels included just for the taboo appeal and none of the social consequences. In other words, all the benefits with none of the controversies. Again, I'm not sure why Masamune and Sagiri needed to be siblings within the show's construct. This story would have made just as much sense if they were childhood friends who, upon contrived circumstances, were forced to become roommates. |
