One year ago, Sagiri Izumi became step-siblings with Masamune Izumi. But the sudden death of their parents tears their new family apart, resulting in Sagiri becoming a shut-in which cut her off from her brother and society.
While caring for what's left of his family, Masamune earns a living as a published light novel author with one small problem: he's never actually met his acclaimed illustrator, Eromanga-sensei, infamous for drawing the most lewd erotica. Through an embarrassing chain of events, he learns that his very own little sister was his partner the whole time!
As new characters and challenges appear, Masamune and Sagiri must now face the light novel industry together. Eromanga-Sensei follows the development of their relationship and their struggle to become successful; and as Sagiri slowly grows out of her shell, just how long will she be able to hide her true persona from the rest of the world?
Something I find hilarious is that no one can explain why Eromanga Sensei is a good show. I see people giving this an 8-10 rating and saying it's a good show, but not once I've seen anyone mentioning any legitimate good quality about Eromanga except for: "it's cute", "Sagiri is so cute", "it has cute girls", "incest is wincest". This may be unfair since I shouldn't be trashing on anyone's likings and I believe people have the right to enjoy whatever the hell they like, but I cannot shake the annoyance that some people are just satisfied with anything at this point. Trust me, I
like cute girls and lolis as much as the next guy does, but somewhere somehow we need to draw the line and notice when our intelligence is being insulted. Does the only thing that an anime needs is for it to have cute girls, some type of incestuous relationship, a copy/paste generic protagonist (that took no effort to create), a bunch of terribly forced memes and loli fanservice for us anime fans to be all over it on social media and be supporting this garbage? If this isn't an insult to the viewer's intelligence then I don't know what is.
For those of you who do not know, this story was done by the same people who made the highly controversial Light Novel (later adapted into an anime), My Little Sister Can't be this Cute (better known as OreImo). Apart from targeting a niche audience with the sibling romance subplot, OreImo is infamous for receiving harsh backlash from fans upon its completion for its trash ending. Details were revealed that the LN editors did not allow Tsukasa Fushimi to go through with a full incest ending.
Keeping this in mind, it becomes very apparent that Eromanga Sensei is trying to be OreImo. Not only does this series do a terrible job at copying all the elements that made OreImo successful, but it makes sure to establish the single fact that led to the downfall of the show. It utilizes one of the most used loopholes sibling romances do to get away with what they're doing by making sure everyone knows that the two main characters ARE NOT BLOOD RELATED. Did you hear that? THEY'RE NOT BLOOD RELATED. The previews make sure you know this, the manga makes sure you know this, the anime makes damn sure you know this.
I find it hard to believe anyone genuinely thinks Eromanga Sensei will not have the brother & sister get it on at some point. It only takes a fraction of knowledge about the author, OreImo and its history to know this has been created just because the author hasn't gotten over his sister fetish. Even so, there are a bunch of other female characters (not)worth mentioning. The thing is, none of these characters seem remotely interesting or feel like real people. They're walking anime tropes that will only exist for the purpose of having the main guy hang around with other girls than his sister and to let the audience have a bit of variety. I have checked the manga and there is no indication they will get interesting enough to carry this bad comedy.
I found it very sickening how cynical and shamelessly Eromanga Sensei tries to bait the siscon/lolicon audience. Countless promising shots of the girls (especially the FREAKING 10-YEAR-OLD) are shown to obviously excite the viewer and trust me, I don't want to be the normie guy who trashes the sexualization of kids in anime, but these are literally middle schoolers. Like, this show is WAY too in your face with fanservice shots. Only 4 episodes in and we've basically seen the little sister naked at least 3 times already. It doesn't even try to hide the fact that they want to attract "that" type of audience, and what bothers me is that they're so out of place. Eromanga Sensei does this so much I'm kinda creeped out that full grown men have such cynical mentality to attract people into their mediocre show with a few ass/breast shots of little girls (if this was an ecchi series I could understand, but Eromanga is not). Every episode gets so much worse with the fanservice it reaches to a point that is just absurd, even for modern anime standards. I honestly feel like I need to call the cops ASAP while watching Eromanga Sensei, just for witnessing the amount of pedophilic vibes this series gives off. If you're into that stuff, then knock yourself out I guess...
Let's talk a little bit more about the characters: they all suck. Every single one gets on my nerve, and the one who doesn't (the black haired who works as a librarian) is so uninteresting it's shocking. First off, the main girl is the lolicon's/siscon's dream imouto, a ridiculously cute, empty shell of a girl who's only noteworthy characteristics are that acts like a tsundere, refuses to leave her room and draws porn for fun. The main guy is generic MC #198,567 (he's voiced by Kirito ffs) who has a terrifying obsession with his sister. People accuse Kyouske of being a terrible siscon, but Masamune is on another level. When he's not screaming, he's ranting on how beautiful his 10-year-old sister is and you can just feel this guy wants to bang her brains out. OreImo at least had the decency to slowly develop the sibling romance, and most of the side characters were interesting and felt like real people (Kuroneko alone makes OreImo a better show btw). The other characters in Eromanga Sensei are stock templates and not worth mentioning.
People criticize OreImo for being a bad anime with nothing new to say, and solely aimed at the siscon/lolicon otaku audience. I find these allegations funny because I've seen those same people dare to claim this is better than OreImo. Unlike Eromanga Sensei, OreImo HAD something to say (nothing that hasn't been explored, but nevertheless it was something). In part, OreImo's first season had a couple interesting themes like the exploration on otaku culture in Japan, the difficulties of liking something that is heavily looked down upon in society and those around you, and the evolving friendship (ultimately romantic interest) between two different types of siblings. Eromanga Sensei on the other hand is a soulless, empty copy of its predecessor that could only appeal to the type of people it is obviously intended for.
One of the things that bothered me the most about Eromanga Sensei is that it tries so damn hard to create memes. This show is just asking, BEGGING to be the next meme on Twitter. From having a character's first trait being that "SHE LOVES DICKS", to having the main loli have a cute (completely out of character) dance at the beginning and opening themes that is begging you with red letters to make a gif out of it and share it with your friends. The show constantly has looping, cute or "funny" moments that are obviously intended to be the laugh of the week (this isn't Konosuba, so it doesn't work). Since the show is trying so hard to be a meme, I propose we treat it as such. The meme of the season.
Well, I have nothing more to say in this unorganized rant. I really needed to get this anger I have towards this show off my chest somehow and hopefully open some eyes. If you have nothing to watch this season, maybe you would want to check out Eromanga Sensei. Watching one episode a week is more easy to pass than when a series is completed (it's the only reason why I might watch some more; also to possibly rant about it some more in the future). However, expect a "moe-blob" of a series that shamelessly copies its big brother and all the cliches of the industry. As I indirectly suggest throughout this review, if you want to watch a similar show done by the same people and with the same ideas, watch OreImo if you haven't and do not waste your time on this. It has a more refreshing and interesting cast than Eromanga, it connects much better with the ideas it's trying to present and is overall more presentable than this garbage. The thing that bothers me the most is that Eromanga Sensei is becoming extremely popular amongst anime fans. To my understanding, it has been very successful in preorder sales in Japan and it is very talked about in online communities. Yes, all those meme attempts have been working so far, and people are loving the ass shots of Sagiri and Megumi saying she loves dicks. This motivates the industry into producing more of this quality of anime, and we all know anime deserves much better. All I can say is that I really hope Eromanga Sensei gets forgotten after the season ends and it's remembered as the cheap theatrics it is, or at least I hope so.
This series is my proof that everyday we stray further from Kamisama, and that Miyazaki-sensei was right about anime all along.
Modern animes today now are just trash (like this one) you just put it 8-10 (no shit) just because there're cute girls in this series,at this review I’ll show you why did I give a "turd" score to this series
Nothing special..... meh i don't know what to say guys it just bored : round the house with two brother and sister does that making any sense ? The story is just crap, disaster, horrible nothing but shitless. Atleast oreimo has something better to watch
The main reason of watching this.A-1 picture seem to be good at this part
Pretty good the op and ed not that
bad i gave this medicore
Moe,loli,sis-con pftttt... i'm too tired for this modern anime now are just for fanservices (of course fanservices sometimes good for viewers 's satisfaction) but did you see how badly they entertain it ? they put a FUCKING 12 YEARS OLD CHILD into this series to make it more interesting for moneys and as my knowledge people who around 30-50 in Japan do like littlegirls, loli, puberty loli and big boobs loli(weaboo, prevert,NEET) we called them are the bad otakus, this series is a proof that Myazaki was right about anime at whole time “anime was a mistake”
There is the one who watch Monogatari for the plot
And then there is the one who watch it for Shinobu
A shit ! bored, dropped after watching 4 espisode,i haven't seen any "comedy" moments. Atleast if this were slices of life i could enjoy it though
Overall: i gave this series a "turd" point and if you called me is dickbrain like "you should remember to bring your brain the next time when you write a review" or "why don't you watching it until it end to have a fair comment " then you are wrong,i don't wacthing it for cute girls so then being called like prevert dude
thanks for wasting your time for reading my reviews comment if i trigered you about this series but don't take it seriously enjoy it like the whatever the hell you enjoys it and i'll try my best to "pull" this thing out of the industry
As we all know, the most popular opinion that many agreed aren't just there to show how selective people are when deciding to pick which side of the bias side of the standing ground they wanted to be on. It doesn't matter if you're in on it to diss a work of a team effort that cost for more than $100,000-300,000 Usd per episode, according to many sources. Though, attacking an anime and of those people that may watches the show for the sake of entertainment is just a viscous and unfathomable attack on those people that like the show, for the same reason this
one guy hated the show for. Like shit man, you rated this show 1/10, abit heartless dont u think? I wouldn't mind a 5+ taking into the account of the work and the production quality of the show. It's objective to rate the art higher than 7/10 since the art is just that great in this anime. The idea of beauty is objective, you dont rate a pile of garbage a 10/10 as a form of art, the same goes for rating a picture of this welly drawn anime picture of a character a 1/10. Subjectivity in art doesn't exist unless you're going to forced the reality that a fucking toliet deserved to be put in the art musuem, welcome to our liberal land where rainbow and sunshine dominate the land of reality, even if it's a fucking stupid idea to even consider modern art an art at all.
Tbh, you cant just hate the show because you hate the author, or its relation to the author's other work, this project is literally a group work with director and the staffs collaborating, instead of the author directing the production of this anime. If you hate the setting or the plot (because you hate people lewding loli), then pick another show or use a more valid point for your argument attacking the anime, or to justify y a 1/10 is a reasonable rating. And tbh, nobody gonna fucking turn in a pedophile even if they lewd a 2D premature characters or watching a hentai of them. If they do, the already have that problem before even seeing em erotic 2D girls. And I have an elder and a younger sister, I can't lewd them, the thought is just disgusting but our ancestor and kings can at least do it, in order to keep the blood line thing going in the noble family.
Additionally, I just want to make something clear before I start reviewing this anime that's so entertaining to watch. CoquiEnthusiast mentioned that this anime is an insult to its viewers right? He's basically saying all anime that can only deliver the typical cute girl character, anime tropes (which exists in all anime), fanservice (like konosuba since he seem to like the show), trying to get meme by fans (just like many show), generic MC (yep no escaping it), loli (do exist like in all show now, even AOT a serious show) and so on is an insult to its viewers. That's the logic that I'd got from it.
Tbh, to just attack an entire staff and the team (rating it a 1) that have spent months working on this project by this hated generalization, for an anime that insults the audience by your list of what people should feel and dictates what is an insult to you now, that just seem like a hypocrisy to me. It's basically an insult to someone's intellect if you're just going to blatantly declares that everyone else is a dumbass for not realizing that this anime is insulting you when there're no proofs of them. This actually is a very narrow minded way of trying to find shows that are bad, put them as an example of it, then say that your favorite anime is better because of it. Or just wanting to show discontentment and spread hate across the anime community and treated those that like the show, looking at them with pity due to their ignorance about the show's actual intent when there's no indication that it's the intent of what he's trying to implied. Or he just hate the author because this was by the same dude as Oreimo, another incest story. Tbh, even if you find him to be creepy, you should judge a story from its story, and not how u personally perceived the author to judge the show.
And the important thing that was mentioned here, about an anime characters, is that they are not like us humans; they should have unreal personality, behavior, or just not be as close to us as possible (assuming that we're the normal people). That's basically why we call them an anime character and not a fucking person.
He also acts like this was the first time he sees a fanservice on a loli character in an anime like the fuck lol? And he even try to make this an insult on fanservice on loli in this show specifically, because the show is not an ecchi series? Like mate, look at the name of the anime and take a closer look lmao (btw the anime did a very good job making you lust over them no lie).Plus, first episode into the show gave us an exposition of a loli and introduces us to the light novel industry where people draw eroge or perverted pictures with a story to go along with it for a living. And even if people were lusting over them, anime character are made sexier in appearance, voice, and personality so who cares. Where can u see kids that hot in the fucking reality mate, like for real. I see kids in the world as annoying tbh.
And the anime is completely different in term of the setting if it were to be compared to the Oreimu series, but obviously not the incestuous relationship, though this one is legal lul. I mean we could literally see the difference between the 2 no? If not then wouldn't he be insulting you right here? And this show isn't devoid in themes that Oreimo also have in its series. It introduces you to the otaku culture electronically, like live streaming an eroge drawing (showing that it's a thing in Japan, the otaku community), the light novel industry, sales, ranking system, light novel competition, processes to publish a light novel series etc.. Additionally, they had also explored the general theme of difference between treating something as work and treating something as a hobby, and so on. I dont even know how you could rate a serie a 1, while not taking into the account of the entirety of what the project has to offered; and based from the very few things you hate about the anime, as you twist the logic in order to forced more points into your own review, in order to make yourself sounds right, even if that logic would also subsequently insults other animes that are good as well, and that do contained those quality as well of what he has listed. Just like how he brought up the example of how a show like konosuba are free to do those things (like wanting to be meme by fans), when this anime does it too, it deserved to get insulted.
And the MC maybe generic in appearance, but his character is definitely not. He's not your typical creepy ass character who'd always look at his own sister's ass or erogenous zone and says shit like
"Hey girl, one day I will put my manly shaft in and give birth to a deformed child alright, tho you're not blood related so it's not going to be a deformed one anyway, are you good with that my future waifu?"
His brother is, so far in the series, adamantly against the legal incestuous relationship. So it's pretty invalid to say that he's in fact, your typical creepy ass big brother MC but obviously it's a romance series involving a brother and the not blood related sister, he will develop feeling for her anyway. I mean no spoiler or anything, nothing incestuous had happen (maybe verbally) yet in the original material. That's not to say that his character as a typical MC personality or attitude (being dense as fuck) isn't cliche.
Moreover, the setting in itself is pretty unique from all the anime that I had seen, involving the build up of a relationship between a shut in sister, and a brother trying to get her out. The story also offers a rivalry like environment that doesn't solely relies on the romance element to draw in the viewers into the show. Additionally, their relationship and interaction are pretty interesting and cute with all the obvious twist that are involved in the story (usually when they introduce a new characters). The characters are cute in both personality and appearances, except for the dick girl, and the animation is smooth as fuck in some part of the scene. The voice acting is really well done, the comical moment and the random sounds that they made double the cuteness for me. And let be honest, the little sister in this anime is actually a better version of that girl from Oreimo. She's cuter, has a unique voice acting, not bitchy, like to mumble or grumble words of gripe when she's jealous (cute af) , and has a better character design overall. Plus the melodrama and the romance of the series is pretty interesting given the character of the sister's overall personality and of her brother or of any character's interaction with the MC.
That's not to say that there are no flaw in this anime and other dislike-able character like that girl that love to says that she loves dicks (tho u might like her anyway). Or an unnecessary shots of fanservice that distracted sub readers amidst the conversation, and being too concentrated on its main theme and story of the anime; basically, striving to get a successful eroge light novel in the industry, is that a bad thing though? The anime is called Eromanga sensei afterall. You also typically called an author of a manga sensei, so it's to be expected that the story spend more time on the eroge light novel industry than the romance between not blood related sister and a brother. Though, every outline of the story is pretty cliche. Galaxy of hero or something and dead pool also followed the same cliche outline of a superhero story too, so y criticized this show so much?
Tbh, this anime is intended to be watched for the sake of entertainment, and not as an insult to anyone. If you could at least states an obvious part of the show that actually "insults" the viewers, then please be my guest. And if you give me that "creepy otaku" scene, you do know that this actually insults themselves and their entire community, as we all know, anime are made by otaku lul. That's the only one that I could find.
after the deception of all oreimo's fans or most of them after seeing that shit ending witch was forced by the publisher since the love story in that anime was between two blood related siblings
Eromanga Sensei came .while having the same concept of oreimo( literally the same concept it even can be considered as a season 3 or something like that ) but no wonder since its light novel was made by the same writer of the oreimo's light novel (Tsukasa Fushimi) and illustrated by the same guy as well (Hiro Kanzaki) but one crucial difference exist between those
two anime :the sibling are not blood related that mean that this anime can go wild . this anime represent a chance to the author to do what do what he wasn't able to do in oreimo and also a chance to the oreimo's fans to see what they wanted but couldn't see in oreimo, and also it is good news for the people that can not stand watching romance between blood related people since the lovers here are sibling but without being actually blood related.
so the story revolve about Masamune Izumi and his little sister sagiri who aren't blood related since there family is a reconstituted family. Sagiri is the daughter of the mother and Masamune the son of the father. anyway ,so masamune is a light novel author and his light novels are illustrated by someone called "Eromanga," who draw to him extremely perverted drawings, and he is very reliable but it appear after that that eromanga is actually his little sister who use her own body picture as reference for her drawings anyway after a while he discover who she is and she discover who he is is since no one knew with who they were actually working with
so after that the story revolve about their adventure to make a successful light novel that will be adapted into an anime but in the same time the story will revolve about the feelings of love of the siblings to each other witch they try to hide being scared of what other people will says about them if they declare, confess their love so this anime is about two siblings trying to realize their dream and also about 2 people trying to overcome the fear that they have against the point of view of the of the community about them but that actually can be applied on the brother more(i mean the fear of .... thing)
