Unlike most shonen series, death note has little to no actual physical battles. rather, this is a superb thriller involving a battle of two brilliant minds: light and L. The arc with mellow/near drags down the overall quality of the series, so I'm rating based on the first arc. unfortunately, there is little to no character development, yet the show is amazing because of it's premises, plot, and sheer intensity. Light, in particular, is the one character that pulls this series together; his characterization as a genius out to change the world, coupled with the capabilities of the death note, makes for a truly intriguing story. This is probably one of the only series that elicited a strong emotional response from me; more often than not I would be frustrated, pensive, sympathetic, sad, and happy. this show has been a rollercoaster of emotions, and because of that, is a series i can never forget.
