Synopsis

In the future, personal computers have developed into "Persocoms," mobile computers that look like human beings. Hideki Motosuwa, a prep school student, desperately wants to buy a Persocom but cannot afford to. One day, he finds a Persocom that has been thrown away and decides to keep it. When he turns on the Persocom, all she can say is "Chii" so he decides to name her that. After a while, it starts to become apparent that Chii is more than an average Persocom. Having much better performance, it seems that Chii might be a "Chobit," a type of advanced Persocom rumored to have independent thought.

As you might have noticed already, almost all the reviewers give this series a 10 on everything. This is offcourse not without reason. It performs top notch in every aspect. Chobits kept me entertained from the first milisecond to the last.

Story:

The story is simply amazing. It has a bit of everything going from romance to suspense. Although the story is quite slow it doesnt feel like it. Every episode shows the devolopment of the characters in a serious but also a funny way. The first episodes will give you a big laugh, but the mood swings over to a more romantic view the more it read more

CLAMP has outdone themselves yet again and given us a crappy anime.

This time, spazes get theirs as loser farm boy Hideki gets to have some robot lovin'.

The story follows an utter creepy wanker who gets a human-shaped computer, he does all sorts of adult things with it, but AH HA HA HA, she's not a real person--molestation is all right!! Then it learns to talk to him, so he can tell it all sorts of loser things and perv out on it because real girls won't touch his shorts with a ten-foot pole. The End.

What a load of crock this was.

Ok, I’ll admit it, I like romance anime, especially with drama and comedy. So I should love Chobits, right? Let me step back for a moment and say above all else I like anime with good stories and interesting characters. Chobits fails for me due to weak characters, in particular Hideki and Chii.

Hideki is way too flat and lack sufficient depth. In addition, he is a joke character, we don’t laugh with him, we laugh at him. Because of this it makes it hard to empathize/engage with a character like Hideki. This is why we have token male side read more

Romance is my favorite genre of anime, so naturally when my friends told me Chobits was a good classic anime of that genre, I watched it. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed, which isn't saying that Chobits was terrible. It just didn't live up to my expectations. Who knows, maybe I had too high of expectations. The anime was overall kind of sort of cute and funny but it didn't have a "good" plot, and the drama in it was very dull. I thought the plot was original in it's unique way because of the introduction of a Persocom, a machine that resembles a female read more

Anime: DearS
Exact same storylines. Don't listen to everyone else, the stories are litterally exact. However, there are some quirks that are different between them: Ren is an Alien in DearS, while Chi is a Robot (Cyborg of sorts) in Chobits. There are other little differences that you'll notice when comparing them, but there's no doubt.. if you liked one of these, you'll definitely like the other.

Anime: Elfen Lied
Both are about finding a girl with no memory but both have hidden powers that awaken sporaticly in the story. Both girls could only say their names in the begining and have cute ears/horns. Both have ecchi. :D Only difference is Chobits is more of a romace and Elfen Led is full of violence and gore.

Anime: Sora no Otoshimono
Main character lives with a none-human female. The setting and such are quite different, though the enjoyment factor is about the same. Plus there's the ecchi moments you'd expect from such shows, because of the circumstances that are brought up.

Anime: Kobato.
Also by CLAMP, similar character appearance (Chiho and Chi) and environment design (esp the apartment)... also got this Picture Book arc but with different story... and both are wonderful stories

Anime: Plastic Memories
A robot cannot feel emotion regardless of the circumstances but what if it can connect with human emotion to a certain extent? However, like every reward there is a price to pay and the aftermath really hits you deep down.

'Plastic Memories' and 'Chobits' delivers an emotional level of bonding between humans and androids that are designed to feel almost human. In the midst of it all, the lovely musics certainly did not damper the standard of the show. Touching moments are undeniably hard to ward off as it shows us what it means to have something so precious and alive being taken  read more

Anime: Eve no Jikan
Both titles explore the similar lore of human interaction and the border between seeing an android as a living breathing entity or appliance such as a stove or a car. relationships are key in both series as the protagonist have varying views on whether to follow the discrimination against androids, giving them 'real' feelings or simply accepting them as man-made devices for varying uses. Unlike chobits, Eve No Jikan does not hold the same aesthetics's in design, there are more fine lines and deeper colors along with 3D visualization and some computer generated effects. This gives Eve no Jikan a more mature look then chobits  read more
