SynopsisIn the future, personal computers have developed into "Persocoms", mobile computers that look like human beings. Hideki Motosuwa, a prep school student, desperately wants to buy a Persocon but cannot afford to. One day he finds a Persocom that has been thrown away and decides to keep it. When he turns on the Persocom, all she can say is "Chi" so he decides to name her that. After a while it starts to become apparent that Chi is more than an average Persocom. Having much better performance, it seems that Chi might be a "Chobit", a type of advanced Persocom rumored to have independent thought.

As you might have noticed already, almost all the reviewers give this series a 10 on everything. This is offcourse not without reason. It performs top notch in every aspect. Chobits kept me entertained from the first milisecond to the last.
Story:
The story is simply amazing. It has a bit of everything going from romance to suspense. Although the story is quite slow it doesnt feel like it. Every episode shows the devolopment of the characters in a serious but also a funny way. The first episodes will give you a big laugh, but the mood swings over to a more romantic view the more it develops.
This show is probably something you haven't seen before, the characters evolution is something quite special. To prevent spoilers you'll have to find that out for yourself.
The fact remains that the evolution of Chii is the most funny thing in the whole show. It's like she starts off like a 3 year old child knowing hardly anything about the world and needs to learn everything. And without commen sense she does alot of things a normal person would reconsider.
Art:
The style of the picture in this anime is great, they don't overdo it with drawing to much details but it is simply amazing. Everything you see will draw out the correct emotion that goes with it. The characters are made really well.
Sound:
Same as the art it is great, going from the intro to the story. The music fits the parts in the story really well.
Character:
As I said in the story, the characters develop really good. Sometimes you do feel how something is going to develop but you're not really sure. The show really does show a few unexpected things but after you see them they are explained thouroughly with a background of "how". This really adds a + to the show.
Enjoyment:
This show kept me entertained from the start till the end. I finished the show in 1 day because I just couldn't stop watching it.
Overall:
If you like a romance with lots of humour but also serious parts, then this is the anime for you. Its a 10+ in every part and will keep you entertained.

Falling in love is a complicated thing. Falling in love with the world's most dangerous supercomputer is possibly even more complicating.
Chobits is an anime that conceptually was a brilliant idea, but its execution resulted in what is a shallow look at some incredibly important ideologies. It manages to be a philosophical, sociological anime that is marred by fanservice for both male and female audiences.
Simply, the story follows farm boy Hideki as he moves to the big city. In this world, computers are shaped like human beings. They look, sound, act human (depending on the model you want, of course). Hideki ends up finding one of these Persocoms (these humanoid computers) in the trash not too far from his new apartment. It is from the moment he picks up Chii that the anime starts to go downhill fast.
First of all, why is Chii's on button located in between her legs? Does that even make any sense? It could have easily been located anywhere else on the body, but fanservice indicates that it must be where her metal vagina is located. It makes you wonder why she even HAS a vagina. Isn't she a computer? I have yet to see a PC with boobs myself, but perhaps we need to wait a few more years for that. So then, doesn't her having human body parts therefore not make her some object for sexual interaction? Persocoms of Chobits seems to cater for guys whose idea of a perfect girl is that she is hot, doesn't say much and can Google.
Anyway, Hideki has to use his fingers inside of Chii to literally "turn her on" (oh ho, very funny CLAMP). The rest of the series basically is torn between having a deep storyline and having an ecchi comedy. Not exactly the best mix. Fingerbanging a robot girl and then falling in love with her? Next!
Chobits initially manages to raise some extremely important questions about society's dependence on computers for example. It seemed that Hideki falling in love with his Persocom thematically shows how much we have become dependent on computers and the internet that we in turn have "fallen in love" with it. Also, the anime just seems to be one gigantic metaphor for one's virginity, as there are many scenes where Chii is searching for her one and only. Of course, any deepness is ruined with shallow service. How do you compare something like the episode involving the a storybook about a depressing tale of loneliness (A City With No People) along with the episode about Chii trying to buy a pair of panties?
The art for Chobits is exceedingly cute. The designs look really well (except for some characters, their eyes are a little too far apart) especially with Chii and the other Persecoms. It is really vibrant, colourful and easy to look at.
However, it is the musical aspect of Chobits that is utterly astounding. It opens with the extremely catchy, wonderful mellow pop song 'Let Me Be With You' by ROUND TABLE feat. Nino. The voice acting is superb as well, and the cast has two very strong leads (despite Chii's dialogue consisting mostly of her own name, she does sound rather adorable). The background music is exceptionally well done. The BGM has a wide range, being playful or melancholy depending on the scenes and situation, and there is also the inclusion of vocals within the music, such as melodic humming. The score for this anime is absolutely wonderful.
What is less than wonderful is the cast. Hideki is the unimpressive lead character. The sort of guy you'd find in a two-bit harem: unexceptional, brown haired, obsessed with pornography. He is possibly easy to relate to, with his averageness though he is so forgettable. Chii is extremely cute but there's nothing more to her than that. Being walking, talking moe does not make someone a good character. The supporting cast comprises of friends of Hideki who are also mostly forgettable, though they all seem to have severe emotional issues to deal with. The Persocoms of some of the characters actually have more personality than the humans, which is pretty sad.
Chobits is a clear example of good idea, badly executed. It is undoubtedly a fan favourite, seeing as it caters to every sort of fan imaginable, but it is a severe disappointment since it prioritised servicing the audience rather than developing a deep story. read more

again, a boy is having a sexy cute girl alone with him in his appartment =]
if you have watched chobits
then try dears
They are very similar. Guy finds girl in the streets. They end up living together. They're both ecchi comedies.
They both start out with finding a random person/object on the street with no knowledge of anything, and the whole story is mostly about teaching the person about life. The stories are both very similar and end quite similar, with some differences.
Both anime follow mechnical "slave" type protagonists. Story is VERY similar. Both are warm-hearted and funny :)
The story is very similar
Exact same storylines. Don't listen to everyone else, the stories are litterally exact. However, there are some quirks that are different between them: Ren is an Alien in DearS, while Chi is a Robot (Cyborg of sorts) in Chobits. There are other little differences that you'll notice when comparing them, but there's no doubt.. if you liked one of these, you'll definitely like the other.
Dears has actually the same story than Chobits.
The main female characters (Chi -Chobits + Ren -DearS) are very similar in the fact that they come off very childish and cutesy. The lead males are similar because they have to go through many ordeals. DearS is basically the same as Chobits, well except for the plot and the perversion level. If you liked Chobits, but you wanted it more perverted, then DearS is definitely for you!
Pretty similar, both are about the two main characters falling in love. Danger seems to happen every now and again, but the rest is just them going through their normal everyday lives. After coming across their special someone, one is a persecom or computer while another is an alien, you see how it affects their lives and how their relationship slowly begins to develop towards the end of the show.
Both of these anime are very similar; in fact, the first few episodes almost seem the same. Basically, a man living on his own comes across a beautiful non-human girl and is forced to take care of her. In the meantime, she learns to adapt with the human lifestyle and culture in a VERY humorous way. I would say the main difference between the two series is that DearS is about an alien and has more perverted situations than Chobits (although both of these anime are infamously ecchi), and Chobits is about a robot and has a much deeper plot to it. I liked Chobits way more, but if you enjoyed one of these series, than the other is worth checking out, just for the fact that they are so similar in story and comedy.
This two anime are very similar.Students living on their own one day accidentally find cute girls which aren't human. They start living with them, teaching them how to speak and other stuff.Other people are looking for them because they're special and they want to take them away. But Chobits is way better then DearS.
Completly alike. If you loved Chobits, you'll love DearS.
both of these series have the main character girl starting out with no knowledge...making it funny what both main guy character goes though =]
Premise is almost identical (except 1 is an alien the other a robot) and both are ecchi. That being said chobits is a much deeper anime while DearS is more for fan service
They are pretty much the same type of story. In Chobits, they are robots, in Dears, they are aliens. Same kind of perverted guys in both anime.
A guy who lives alone finds a hot naked girl who doesn't speak japanese and he has to teach her the ways of life. In the mean time people try to capture her because she's deffective. The only real difference is that this time she's an alien instead of a computer.
Both animes has these cute girls following them around, alot of fun here and there and quite alot of ecchi in some episodes:P
Though... this kinda reminds me of slavery xD
In both anime series, the guy takes a girl in who doesnt really know anything. They both end up living with that girl and start do develop certain feelings. The males are also pervy.
DearS and Chobits are very similar in many ways. They both involve guys who are clearly inexperienced with women. Then one day these men stumble across beautiful women who end up living with them. Not only are the men very similar, but the beautiful women are also very similar. The women in both stories know slim to nothing....
If you liked DearS then you'll most likely like Chobits, this doesn't necessarily work visa versa though. The main protagonist is a guy with little or no experience with women and somehow a cute girl (in Chobits a computer, in DearS an alien) has to live with the main protagonist. In both anime the girl needs to learn a lot about the human world which results in ecchi and funny situations. Chobits is deeper than DearS though, which is why I wouldn't necessarily recommend DearS to Chobits fans.
If you liked DearS I'm sure that you would love chobits even more. I love chobits more than I love dears simply because there seems to be more love and detication in chobits. Both are similar series in the fact that both human men found " out of this world" woman who need help to grown and fit in within society.
It's about a guy living with a female who isn't human so he's trying to teach her how to be human while protecting her
There almost exactly alike in many ways, except this is slightly more echhi
The story line between the two is really similar so you're guaranteed to like one if you like the other.
About a boy (who hasn't got a girlfriend so is particularly pervy) who find an extremely beautiful girl on the street except she's an alien. This is mirrors Chobits in that Hideki found Chii in the street and she's a persocon (robot). The story basically progresses so that at first he is reluctant to take care of her but as she learns more he starts to fall in love with her (sound familiar?) I found Chobits gets quite serious towards the end whereas DearS is quite carefree and fun throughout. It is worth watching DearS if you liked Chobits even if it is really similar because in both the artwork is amazing and both are really fun to watch!
Hope this helped! x
Both males act and sound the same.. and even the story is very much on par with Chobits the only difference is here she is a alien and in Chobits Chii is a percom.
same idea of robots or slaves having free-will even though they supposedly shouldn't. also main characters are very similar.
if your into the whole "guy gets entangled in all sort of awkward hijinks after meeting a random humanoid girl" then these titles are just for you. the're all really funny and both contain cute girls that dont really know how to speak in the beginning

both about love between humans and robots x_x
Persocon = Cyber-Doll, helping "toys" that can help their lords. In that sense, they have similar motives throughout both shows.
Chobits and Hand Maid May both have a likeable story line and some strange characters. Both shows include dolls, persocoms or robotic cyberdolls that fall in love with their owners. Both animes are fun to watch, although Hand Maid May is more of a harem anime while Chobits is a cute anime. I strongly reccomend both.
Both involve a robot girl with a rather perverted on switch, the main theme is the male character is trying to win over other girls but because of a modern society issue, the robot and male character are laughed upon. Chobits features more drama the whole way through while Hand Maid May focuses on Harem moments, both are Ecchi and some Harem is involved in both but more dominant in Hand Maid May. I don't mind which you watch first, but both are very good!
