SynopsisIn the future, personal computers have developed into "Persocoms", mobile computers that look like human beings. Hideki Motosuwa, a prep school student, desperately wants to buy a Persocon but cannot afford to. One day he finds a Persocom that has been thrown away and decides to keep it. When he turns on the Persocom, all she can say is "Chi" so he decides to name her that. After a while it starts to become apparent that Chi is more than an average Persocom. Having much better performance, it seems that Chi might be a "Chobit", a type of advanced Persocom rumored to have independent thought.

As you might have noticed already, almost all the reviewers give this series a 10 on everything. This is offcourse not without reason. It performs top notch in every aspect. Chobits kept me entertained from the first milisecond to the last.
Story:
The story is simply amazing. It has a bit of everything going from romance to suspense. Although the story is quite slow it doesnt feel like it. Every episode shows the devolopment of the characters in a serious but also a funny way. The first episodes will give you a big laugh, but the mood swings over to a more romantic view the more it develops.
This show is probably something you haven't seen before, the characters evolution is something quite special. To prevent spoilers you'll have to find that out for yourself.
The fact remains that the evolution of Chii is the most funny thing in the whole show. It's like she starts off like a 3 year old child knowing hardly anything about the world and needs to learn everything. And without commen sense she does alot of things a normal person would reconsider.
Art:
The style of the picture in this anime is great, they don't overdo it with drawing to much details but it is simply amazing. Everything you see will draw out the correct emotion that goes with it. The characters are made really well.
Sound:
Same as the art it is great, going from the intro to the story. The music fits the parts in the story really well.
Character:
As I said in the story, the characters develop really good. Sometimes you do feel how something is going to develop but you're not really sure. The show really does show a few unexpected things but after you see them they are explained thouroughly with a background of "how". This really adds a + to the show.
Enjoyment:
This show kept me entertained from the start till the end. I finished the show in 1 day because I just couldn't stop watching it.
Overall:
If you like a romance with lots of humour but also serious parts, then this is the anime for you. Its a 10+ in every part and will keep you entertained.

_Synopsis_
Chobits follows the story of Hideki Motosuwa, a country boy with a dream to enter the college. He failed his enter exams and now he has to go to prep school. While he setting into his new neighborhood he finds out how modern people live. Also he discovers that almost everyone in the city has hisher own Persocom. But when he saw the price he gave up. One day he discovers a Persocom, dumped in the trash. He takes it home, starts it up, and from there begins the crazy ride and bond between man and technology.
At a first glance, this story seems very simple, because it’s follows the usual cliché (forbidden love between man and computer). However, Chobits are not that simple. Chobits will surprise you with simple, slow, funny and touching story.
-Story(9/10)-
To be honest I am a big fan of such stories. I watched Sora no otoshimono and I liked it much and one day my friend recommended me to watch Chobits. They are similar, but the only thing is Sora no otoshimono is ultra-perverted.
As I have already mentioned, the story is about forbidden love between a man and some other form of life that is usually unable to feel any emotion other than programmed. Sound familiar? Indeed, but it is not as clichéd as it sounds. Chobits sends us on a journey of finding the special someone, but the person who is trying to find that special someone isn’t human. The story shows that even something as cold and robotic as a persocom or computer can be given human attributes and yearn for the same things humans do in a story. It sounds boring, romance with robot... But, don’t worry. Chobits also have comedy and I must say pretty funny. However, the show itself does fall into the cliché of most "awkward boy/apathetic girl" scenarios in anime. Whether poking fun at the supposed pervertedness of the main character, or demonstrating the antics when Chi tries to cook, the story does tend to bend toward the obvious traits in a story of this lvl. In addition, a few plot points were not really solved and left a few things out in the open in the end. Only because of a few flows in the story-line it deserves [.9/10].
-Animation(7/10)- There is nothing really special about the animation. It’s pretty standard in terms of motion and fluency. The only major attribute would be that the character designs. Chobits is the anime you are watching because of good story-line and interesting characters. Ultra flawless animation is a good thing but it’s not that important.
-Sound(8/10)- The music fits in with all the scenes. It isn't very memorable, but it fits the story-line great.
-Characters(9/10)- The cast of characters is pretty large for such a small story, and each are given a pretty fair amount of time for character development. This fact is sure big plus of this anime.
-Enjoyment(10/10)-
Character development, funny moments, good story-line, no off-colored humor,no fan-service, this made my acquaintance with Chobits unforgettable.
-Overall(9/10)-

Exact same storylines. Don't listen to everyone else, the stories are litterally exact. However, there are some quirks that are different between them: Ren is an Alien in DearS, while Chi is a Robot (Cyborg of sorts) in Chobits. There are other little differences that you'll notice when comparing them, but there's no doubt.. if you liked one of these, you'll definitely like the other.
They both start out with finding a random person/object on the street with no knowledge of anything, and the whole story is mostly about teaching the person about life. The stories are both very similar and end quite similar, with some differences.
again, a boy is having a sexy cute girl alone with him in his appartment =]
if you have watched chobits
then try dears
They are very similar. Guy finds girl in the streets. They end up living together. They're both ecchi comedies.
Both anime follow mechnical "slave" type protagonists. Story is VERY similar. Both are warm-hearted and funny :)
Dears has actually the same story than Chobits.
This two anime are very similar.Students living on their own one day accidentally find cute girls which aren't human. They start living with them, teaching them how to speak and other stuff.Other people are looking for them because they're special and they want to take them away. But Chobits is way better then DearS.
The story is very similar
They are pretty much the same type of story. In Chobits, they are robots, in Dears, they are aliens. Same kind of perverted guys in both anime.
The main female characters (Chi -Chobits + Ren -DearS) are very similar in the fact that they come off very childish and cutesy. The lead males are similar because they have to go through many ordeals. DearS is basically the same as Chobits, well except for the plot and the perversion level. If you liked Chobits, but you wanted it more perverted, then DearS is definitely for you!
Both of these anime are very similar; in fact, the first few episodes almost seem the same. Basically, a man living on his own comes across a beautiful non-human girl and is forced to take care of her. In the meantime, she learns to adapt with the human lifestyle and culture in a VERY humorous way. I would say the main difference between the two series is that DearS is about an alien and has more perverted situations than Chobits (although both of these anime are infamously ecchi), and Chobits is about a robot and has a much deeper plot to it. I liked Chobits way more, but if you enjoyed one of these series, than the other is worth checking out, just for the fact that they are so similar in story and comedy.
A guy who lives alone finds a hot naked girl who doesn't speak japanese and he has to teach her the ways of life. In the mean time people try to capture her because she's deffective. The only real difference is that this time she's an alien instead of a computer.
Premise is almost identical (except 1 is an alien the other a robot) and both are ecchi. That being said chobits is a much deeper anime while DearS is more for fan service
Pretty similar, both are about the two main characters falling in love. Danger seems to happen every now and again, but the rest is just them going through their normal everyday lives. After coming across their special someone, one is a persecom or computer while another is an alien, you see how it affects their lives and how their relationship slowly begins to develop towards the end of the show.
If you liked DearS then you'll most likely like Chobits, this doesn't necessarily work visa versa though. The main protagonist is a guy with little or no experience with women and somehow a cute girl (in Chobits a computer, in DearS an alien) has to live with the main protagonist. In both anime the girl needs to learn a lot about the human world which results in ecchi and funny situations. Chobits is deeper than DearS though, which is why I wouldn't necessarily recommend DearS to Chobits fans.
both of these series have the main character girl starting out with no knowledge...making it funny what both main guy character goes though =]
Completly alike. If you loved Chobits, you'll love DearS.
They Are Very Similar. Watch It And You'll Understand.
You know, it's funny because the whole time I was watching Chobits I kept thinking '"wait, this can't be right. Wasn't he much younger? And where did that creepy pedophile teacher go who's so into lingerie?" And then I realized my mistake... "Oh wait," I thought to myself." That's not Chobits, that's DearS."
Same basic concept minus the awesome/crazy teacher added for a laugh track. Chi is a bit more cute than Ren Ren though... but other than that it could be almost the same anime (it even has a panties shopping episode). Both are fun and purposefully endearing, but I felt Chobits was a bit more mellow. If you like one it is very likely you will like the other.
Both animes has these cute girls following them around, alot of fun here and there and quite alot of ecchi in some episodes:P
Though... this kinda reminds me of slavery xD
In both anime series, the guy takes a girl in who doesnt really know anything. They both end up living with that girl and start do develop certain feelings. The males are also pervy.
DearS and Chobits are very similar in many ways. They both involve guys who are clearly inexperienced with women. Then one day these men stumble across beautiful women who end up living with them. Not only are the men very similar, but the beautiful women are also very similar. The women in both stories know slim to nothing....
an average looking guy taking care a sexy and beautiful girl, but the girl is not human. They are both fun to watch but chobits has a more serious story.
Both males act and sound the same.. and even the story is very much on par with Chobits the only difference is here she is a alien and in Chobits Chii is a percom.
If you liked DearS I'm sure that you would love chobits even more. I love chobits more than I love dears simply because there seems to be more love and detication in chobits. Both are similar series in the fact that both human men found " out of this world" woman who need help to grown and fit in within society.
It's about a guy living with a female who isn't human so he's trying to teach her how to be human while protecting her
There almost exactly alike in many ways, except this is slightly more echhi
The story line between the two is really similar so you're guaranteed to like one if you like the other.
About a boy (who hasn't got a girlfriend so is particularly pervy) who find an extremely beautiful girl on the street except she's an alien. This is mirrors Chobits in that Hideki found Chii in the street and she's a persocon (robot). The story basically progresses so that at first he is reluctant to take care of her but as she learns more he starts to fall in love with her (sound familiar?) I found Chobits gets quite serious towards the end whereas DearS is quite carefree and fun throughout. It is worth watching DearS if you liked Chobits even if it is really similar because in both the artwork is amazing and both are really fun to watch!
Hope this helped! x
same idea of robots or slaves having free-will even though they supposedly shouldn't. also main characters are very similar.
if your into the whole "guy gets entangled in all sort of awkward hijinks after meeting a random humanoid girl" then these titles are just for you. the're all really funny and both contain cute girls that dont really know how to speak in the beginning
Aliens instead of Persocon's
what is the common tread with two entities, one being an alien trapped on earth, and a highly advanced robot purged of her memories? you get one lucky ass guy that must teach them the earthly ways... shit, that's hot...
if you really like chobits then you'll like dears. both have the same feel and the guys put up a fight to keep their not so real girlfriends
Typical story where a young male going to high school/college has a non-human girl come live with him in his room, hijinks and harem moments ensue, both shows have a bit of drama in the background, and then the last few episodes try giving you a faux-drama that ends up just being inconclusive gibberish. So if you are okay with the same flaws and strength, then you'll enjoy the two shows.
DearS pretty much copied Chobits. Except Chobits still did everything better. The only thing DearS has on Chobits is that it's newer.
Both have a first helpless girl which develop slightly. Same homur, nearly same jokes and story. All in one both are really similair love storys which contain much of fun.
Both main characters live on their own one day accidentally find cute girls which aren't human. They start living with them. The non-human girl doesn't know about the language or world around them the the main guy has to teach them. Other people are looking for them because they're different than others of their kind.
It's like Chobits but with Aliens instead of Persecoms.
The female protagonists of Dears and Chobits are remarkably similar in characteristics, despite one being an alien and the other a robot. The male protagonists are both poor, not so lucky with the ladies, average Joes that are blessed with these sweet chicks for no apparent reason. The story line, about the girl becoming self aware and the guy realizing that he cares for her, regardless of social mores, is more or less the same. Both focus on the comedy, romance and back story of the chick.
If you take Chobits and switch out robot girls with alien chicks you get DearS. It has a similar feel to it that kind of goes:
"Boy meets girl, fan service, girl can only say one word, fan service, boy uses his creative genius to name girl after the one word she says, fan service, girl falls madly in love with boy, fan service, boy's life is turned upside down by girl, fan service, girl tells boy she loves him, some kind of conflict, conflict resolves, fan service, boy tells girl he loves her, fan service, happy ending."
Chobits has a bit more substance than DearS but that's not to say DearS itself isn't worth watching. There's lots of characters all with unique personalities and the humor is great. They throw in some love triangles that add to the humor and overall its pleasant, yet humorous story and, well...tons of fan service.
basically the same exact thing except one is with aliens an the other is with robot/cyborg girls
=) Similiar story...Young man meets strange girl who is naked and their relationship develops...
They are similar in the set up. But thats it for me. Chobits is much deeper, the characters are better built and the whole story is more moving. In Chobits the moral aspect whether its ok or not to be with that "not really a girl" girl comes out way more. Both series are enjoyable, DearS more for light entertainment, Chobits if you want to get moved more and think about it. I would recommend to watch DearS before watching Chobits, not the other way round.
Boy finds girl. Girl is abormal. Fall in love. Etc.
Don't get me wrong, I loved both of these! Good watches, although DearS was cut short :c
These animes are incredibly similar.
In Chobits, the hero finds an abandoned super advanced robot called a Persocom, and decides to take it in as his own. In DearS, its basically the same plot but with a beautiful Alien instead.
In Chobits, Persocoms serve humans and have a large impact on the human's daily lives. In DearS, this also the case.
It's also the same kind of humor and similar jokes. With Ren (the alien from DearS) and Chi (the Persocom from Chobits) not understanding the concept of inappropriate behavior and wacky hijinks ensues.
The series both focus on helping the alien/robot adjust to normal life.
If you like one of these, I guarantee you'll like the other.

Both are about finding a girl with no memory but both have hidden powers that awaken sporaticly in the story. Both girls could only say their names in the begining and have cute ears/horns. Both have ecchi. :D Only difference is Chobits is more of a romace and Elfen Led is full of violence and gore.
Though Chobits certainly doesn't have the same level of violence that Elfen Lied has (or any), I feel both are very similar in the setup. Both are harem's with a vague plot to try cover the pointless nudity/cuteness, and Nyu and Chi share almost every personality trait.
Cute innocent girls who only can speak one syllable turns out to be a killing machine and a super-computer.
Besides the fact that Elfen Lied is more gory, bloody, and lets face it- Violent, it has a big similarity with Chobits. Both the main characters have sides, They are named by the sounds they make, (Chobits is Chii, and Elfen Lied is Nyuu) Fall in love with the college man who found them, etc. Just watch it and you will see.
Main characters are nearly the same sweet mysterious girls. (Ok Nyuu's not always so sweet :D)
Elfen Lied Is extremely gory and bloody
Chobits well isnt
Chobits is about a teenager who go's to the city and comes across a chobit on the ground, computers that walk around and are interactive. Normaly female and resembles humans only beautiful and flawless.
He finds one laying on the ground who has lost its memory and of course its a smarter one that is a girl and is gorgous.
But has lost all her memories and says meow or meu something like that.
Elfen lied Teenager Finds alice naked forgets all her memory girl and also says meu.
Chobits is romantic comedy, thats surrounded by this mysterios chobit robot and its all about his mysterious feeling of love to this robot and hes curious should he or should he not. situation with action and events building to a climactive ending.
Plots are similar, but Elfen Lied is much more brutal and sad. Chobits for fans of Elfen Lied will be cheerful change after Elfen Lied.
They both have multiple personalities
Intertwining elements of science fiction, drama, comedy, and romance, Eflen Lied is another enjoyable anime to watch. The storylines of both are similar in terms of conflict that threatens the relationships between the male protagonists and the non-human girls. Both girls are also adorably innocent and naïve, leading to quite a few hilarious ecchi moments.
Although the stories differ majorly, the main characters Chii (Chobits) and Nyu (Elfen Lied) are oh so similar; they are both sweet and naive and can mostly only say their names. My recommendation is if you really loved the character of Nyu (as i did) then you will fall in love with Chii :)
Both have the same general plot (boy finds girl with special powers). On the other hand, their execution is very different. Chobits is more of a romantic comedy, while Elfen Lied is a psychological horror.
Elfen Lied at first seems like the polar opposite of Chobits, I don't want to give much away. Note: this is only if you want something more extreme than Chobits (ex. something more gory and ecchi-ish)
Both are stories about a guy that moves to a new place then suddenly finds a girl who has little knowledge and can only say one word and he names them the one word they can say. Both also have ecchi and both female leads has a dark past an have lost their memories. Both have some romance, but Chobits seems to focus more on the romance where Elfen lied has mostly horror. But unlike Elfen lied,Chobits is much more slow paced and can be harder to watch in one sitting.
