SynopsisHasegawa Kodaka has transferred schools, and he's having a hard time making friends. It doesn't help that his blond hair tends to make people think he's a delinquent. One day, he runs into his bad-tempered solitary classmate Yozora while she's talking animatedly to her imaginary friend Tomo. Realizing that neither of them have any actual friends, they decide that the best way to alter this situation is to form a club and start recruiting.
That is how "Rinjinbu", The Neighbours' Club, was formed, a club specifically designed for people who don't have very many friends. As other lonely classmates slowly join their little club, they'll try to learn how to build friendships through cooking together, playing games, and other group activities. But will this group of relationship-challenged misfits really be able to get along?

“What is it at this time of the night?.. You want me to keep watch outside the bathroom because you’re afraid of ghosts? Don’t worry I’m here, relax and poop”.
Time is nigh, onwards!
First off the OVA, episode 0, gives off a rather bad impression but it was done purposely, I can live with that! Prior to reading the synopsis, I had this good o’l feelin’ about Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai for some reason. Soon I found out that it was because of the art and that I previously witnessed its lovely sparkly nature in Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko. Buriki has great artwork, worth looking into. And so I patiently waited for it to finish airing to marathon it, and that’s eggsackly what I did.
In this time plane we have Kyon indirectly suggesting Yozoro to make a club supposedly for misfits to make friends, the “Neighbor’s Club”. Now I say “supposedly” because they don’t make these characters look like misfits at all, they’re more like… just people making fun of themselves. So, these “misfits” don’t show any real sign of having trouble fitting into society. With the club full with our cast of characters they all interact with each other as if they’d been friends all their lives. It makes you wonder if they were forced to be looked that way, conveniently to… I don’t know…maybe make a guy lucky through unconventional means?
What we have here is a... Harem? This time the moral of the story is “No matter how weird you are there’s a club for people just like you.” …Ok, lame joke aside, there IS a story here. My only real problem with Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai is Kodaka’s relationship with Yozora, it wasn’t cleared early on in the series. Forgotten somewhere around the line, left in a corner and then shoved in at the last minute but, that’s alright because it was within expectations. Among other things that might be shoved in there lies the *ahem, sparkles here sparkles there, ah there we go* FANSERVICE!! YAY... wait what? We need Haganai to sell well if we want a second season right, right?
Unfortunately, sometimes harems may just be laughably terrible with the clichés and all, but not this time IMO. I enjoyed Haganai more than I would normally like to admit. Watching harems overall has never really been a guilty pleasure; I just like them because usually, I know what to expect from them: A silly, reliable show to pass the time with and have a few good laughs. That being said, you can’t really expect for Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai to take a real life problem seriously.
I’m not familiar with the musician(s) but the OP is an average J pop song. Forgettable and tedious to finish every time. The ED is a different story, my friend. It’s about religion, sex and all its beautiful colors, and flavors loosely open in a school setting (I keed). And the seiyuu’s did a wonderful job getting into character, no surprise there.
Moving on to characters - Kukuku~ characters I say? What we have here is a likeable leading man mistaken for a delinquent, a being with questionable gender, an asking-to-be-banged scientist, a young nun as a supervisor (pshhh), a persona brought to life, a mistress who will not permit us to find an underground railroad in femdom, and what you want to save for last, a scrumptious piece of delicious finger-licking Meat!… but given to an otaku.
Ok so, why is harem not in the tags? Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai may deviate from the standard fare of MC and ten beautiful women on his lap (TLR approach) but ultimately that’s what its goal is. To pander… much reminiscent of Ore no Imouto Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai. Talking about Ore Imo, we have a few character traits fluttering about in Haganai (not really surprising since both shows were made by the same studio), two of which are obvious:
Kuroneko and Kobato. Kukuku~ same seiyuu and everything. Kousaka, Kirino and Kashiwazaki, Sena. Both tsundere’s with model figures that just HAPPEN to LOVE eroge, right... They also like to shake their meat.
I don't take these others the same way:
Makishima, Saori and Kusunoki, Yukimura. One whose true identity is concealed and the other is it's own gender (Hideyoshi, anyone?).
Akagi, Sena and Shiguma, Rika. Rotten to the core but you LOVE it.
Kousaka, Kyousuke and Hasegawa, Kodaka. Both have… questionable sibling relationships.
Rika: It’s... ABSLUTELY MASSIVE…
Me: I grabbed it and slowly, as I unsheathe my sword glooming in the light, I pull it out. I thrust it back into the sky penetrating every layer, going through the clouds and stratosphere, finally reaching the *universe* and she yells out…
Rika: EXCALIBUR!!
And there you have it: Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai is another episodic… show that’s dragging on, over the top and has a little fanservice that undermines the show somewhat. Say what you will, but you know what? IT’S OK! If anything, I trust most of us have gotten used to worse things.
I’m writing this thing to present you with the more desirable aspects of Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai because it seems to garner a lot of hate. There are very few “Hate” reviews... That’s because there’s barely any people with the balls to write one but that’s beside the point. You can see other review ratings… it’s not pretty. read more

If you have strong feelings about this anime, please don't read any further. I just noticed there was an abnormally large amount of overly positive reviews for this show and thought it would be best if there was a second opinion readily available.
Haganai was not an enjoyable anime for me. I did not find it funny past a certain point. For the first three episodes the show revolves around the mistaken delinquent and the two "heroines" of the series - Yozora and Sena. These episodes for the most part were quite sharp, and as Sena and Yozora's antics grew and grew, Kodaka's role as the straight man would be stressed further and further.
So it makes sense when dolloping even more characters into the show would have scary consequences. Kodaka's cosplaying sister, a perverse scientist, a ten year old sister of the church who says poop IN EVERY EPISODE THEREAFTER, a cross-dressing maid (whose original gender I can't even remember) - and you know what? There's a line that is drawn eventually where you're just sitting there watching your Mazui subs on your home computer and go "why do I give a shit about any of these characters?"
Your rhetorical question is not easy to answer. It's a bitter reality, but Haganai is just another generic ecchi harem. Kodaka can do nothing to save the show any more. The craziness gets too out of hand for a single straight man, and amidst the chaos you lose the ability to sympathize with any character. Do I root for Sena? She was just so mean in that last scene! But now Yozora's being illogical! Who am I supposed to side with? Thank goodness the nun got naked! That sure helped alleviate tension!
The characters feel too unbelievable for an anime that tries to deal with an actual issue. It's about a group of freaks trying to become friends, except said group is so eccentric that such personalities could never exist. There is no characterization to any cast member as each is treated as a joke. All other reviewers call Rika the "perverted scientist" because that's what she is; nothing more. She has no feelings, she has no emotions, she just has her gags. There is no insight into any of the characters of the show save Yozora and Sena, and the little that is given into them is so cliche and sparse that is hard to separate Haganai from the thousands of other ecchi comedies.
Haganai just felt like a jumble of too many ideas, too many characters, and not enough depth anywhere. It is a shallow production laden with offensive language and poop jokes. And not the good kind of poop jokes, just repetition of the word "poop." The show struggles with trying to be realistic whilst adding so many unrealistic elements it just became frustrating.
I do not recommend this anime to anyone. It earns 5/10 (average) and has nothing interesting to offer beyond one or two jokes throughout it's 288 minute run-time. read more

Kirino Kousaka = Kobato Hasegawa
as
Kyosuke Kousaka = Kodaka Hasegawa
SO MUCH MOEEE !!!~
episode 5 of boku wa tomodachi ga sukunai refers to ore no imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai !!
MOEMOEMOEMOEMOE *___* must watch
• Both have similar art styles
• Both have similar characters
• Both involve gaming, cute girls gaming.
The art is similar and both have many things is common.
The constant fighting between Yozora and Sena remind me a lot to Kirino and Kuroneko (and the personalities are also similar, as the fanaticism that Kirino and Sena have for the eroge).
In short, if you like "OreImo" you'll like "Boku wa Tomodachi..." as well.
Similar comedic formats (one male straight man, two females who argue constantly but are united in harassing the guy)
Also, similar themes about being true to yourself and learning to accept your own quirks.
Same animation style, both really funny and comical
sibling relationships, playing eroge
* 1 main male character
* 2 main female characters, one with dark and one bright colored hair
* they play video games
* the girls aren't very good friends at the beginning
Both involve girls who are obsessed with eroge and want friends. Also have similar characters.
Both animes are made by AIC Build. Also, in both animes, there is moe, a girl who likes ero-games, a girl who dresses in gotchic lolita dress no matter what weather, and a otaku girl who wears glasses.
Both are also seinen series, and have harem in them.
Similar comedy style and both series have a girl obsessed with eroge.
Both animes try to address certain problems in today's society. Oreimo deals with the problem of being an otaku while Haganai focuses on the issue of making friends. While neither are particularly educational, they both offer hilarious moments and sometimes emotional moments.
I really like both animes.
In both you'll find a male main character that is surrounded by a lot of girls. One difference here is that Boku wa Tomodachi also includes younger girls that couldnt't be in a relationship with the main actor. Also there is no brother/sister love story, like you can see it in Ore no Imouto, especially later on in the story.
And still with have two girls with Sena and Yozora that seem quiet related to Kirino and Kureneko. Their relationship is the same and both want something from the main character. Also Rika fits Manami somehow..
So as you can see also from the other comments, both series got a different storyline but have many characters that are familiar.

Both of these stories are about people who have problems making what can be concidered a true friendships with each other because of some sort of social stigma that they themselves place, or someone else does. The art style is also very simular.
no friends in both story
art both cute
romance , boku wa have more
both have really similar character design
both are 'bout an alone ppl (Erio in DOStO) and the club members in BokuTomo
both have great bishoujo and character :) and the weird atmosphere.
Both main characters are transfer students that meet and make friends with several females. Also, different writers but same artist for both these series.
Both of them has very sexy and unusual Buriki's design.
similar art & feeling especially concerning characters
harem with cute girls who don't have many friends due to some problems
Same character design. Kawaii.
Both anime have a number of girls showing interest in one male protagonist. In other words, harem and also a bit ermm...ec...chi.. (a gender which attracts some men) :P
Both male protagonist are oblivious of the feelings that the girls have for them.
Both male protagonist have similar attitude (showing little interest in activities and giving this "how the hell did i get involved in this?" expressions from time to time)
very similar artwork and original character design (the latter being done by the same person!)
These shows have similar art styles and both involve the male protagonist being surrounded by strange girls.
