My history as Otaku
Elementary school days First contact with manga was "Doraemon". Read through tens of issues of Fujiko Fujio titles and "The God of Manga" Tezuka Osamu. Shocked by "Hi no Tori" and "Adolf ni Tsugu".
Junior High days "Evangelion" changed my life. Whole school (or whole nation) was in the "Eva" fever. I went to the movie with my friends and shouted "Asukaaaaa!" at the tragic scene. Exposed to some "Shoujo" manga like "Doubutsu no Oisyasan" "Syounen ha Kouya wo Mezasu" from my senpai.
High school days Started to read manga "Hellsing", "Trigun", "Berserk", "Tenjou Tenge" etc. etc. First contact with Light novel "Boogie Pop wa Warawanai". Obsessed with Rum-chan in "Urusei Yatsura". Watching "Cowboy Bebop" "Infinte Ryvius" "Gundam W Endless Walz". Started to appreciate Director Oshii Mamoru. Went to his movies with my friends "Avalon" "Jin-roh".
Undergraduate Kind of blank age in my Otaku life. Too busy in studying and research.
Graduate school days Youtube woke my Otaku spirit up. I imported Shinkai Makoto DVDs, Ghost in the Shell DVDs and many many manga from Amazon Japan to Texas.
Currently Keep on collecting DVDs/manga/novels. Surfing around 2channel and Japanese anime news sites.
