Path 1 - The Haunted Mansion
You followed the cracked road, its weeds twisting through broken pavement. Every step seemed louder than it should have been, echoing into the still night. By the time you reached the iron gates, the mansion loomed high above you, its windows empty, watching.

The gate gave way with a shuddering clang, not swinging smoothly but jerking, stuttering, as though reluctant to open at all. Inside, lanterns fought to stay lit, their flames twitching in a draft you couldn’t quite place. Once or twice, the light nearly died, plunging the path into black before sputtering back.

At the threshold, the air turned colder, sharp enough to sting your lungs. The doors groaned open, not wide, just enough to invite you in. Then, without your touch, the doors yawned further. You stepped inside. And when the doors slammed behind you, it sounded less like wood on wood, and more like a lock clicking shut.

The library’s double doors groaned as you pushed them open. Dust motes floated in weak beams of moonlight that slipped through cracked windows. Shelves towered above you, packed with leather-bound tomes and yellowed scrolls. A faint whisper seemed to echo between the walls, though you could not see its source.

The narrow staircase spiraled downward into total darkness. Each step echoed like your heart beating in your ear, and the air was thick with mildew. Somewhere below, faint eyes glimmered in the black, observing you.
