| I own the Black Rose Saga on DVD so I get to watch the next episodes on the big screen. I remember the first time I watched the series, I liked Kanae, but I didn't like or dislike her this time. Now I'm just lost in wondering if Anthy is a good guy or a bad guy - or if she's still trying to figure that out herself. |

I certainly hope she doesn't pull a Touga, short fight this time but meaningful non the less as an introduction to the black rose. But I cant help but think that Utena is getting quite angry at climbing ALL THOSE STAIRS EVERY TIME. :D |

| Very intriguing episode. I don't personally like Anthy, but I am definitely getting really excited about where this series is going. |

| I think incest was strongly hinted at the end of this episode as well as those two new guys apparently being in a...well you know. Anthy is looking for suspicious and Utena's best friend is implied to be one of, or maybe both, of the shadows (but, I had a idea that that was the case before, It sounds like the same seiyuu for instance.) All in al, I'm intrigued about where this is going. And, yeah, apparently the gender bending Utena is the most normal of the cast. You think that means something? |

| Anthy is sometimes genuinely creepy. I don't blame Kanae, honestly. Maybe Akio and Anthy actually planned to bring her to that state. |

| Himemiya is incredibly creepy. And I don't really get the whole 100 dead duelists thing, but i suppose that will sort itself out. I also guess that Akio (Himemiya's brother) is Utena's prince. |

| A lot of interesting stuff this episode to start off the new arc; but overall the tone that is being set is darker than that of the first part of the series. Also, with that implied incest at the end, the clear takeaway from this episode is that Anthy and her family are pretty messed up. |

| @MaxVdub, they didn't burn Kanae's body but they sure did burn a coffin (of one of the dead duelists I guess) or maybe symbolically melted her frozen heart in order to revive her hidden-previous self... @Di-Dorval, the rose bride is not dumb, she just makes us think she's dumb, at least imo. She's certainly extremely weird and strange but that's all the more intriguing to me. Bitchy? Nah, I don't think so. I'm sure there's so much hidden symbolism, but I just can't grasp it all with my first viewing...I'm soooo gonna enjoy re-watching this series! On to the Black Rose Saga then!!! Woot* |
| I kind of suspect that Anthy and Akio is not related. I mean, that girly-dark-skin-guy looks just like them, if so, he should be somehow related to them too. This is getting complicated. I like this new chapter, looks more interesting. |

| I had no idea why there were desks on the battleground, probably some symbolic meaning but I can't really bother to think Otherwise, a nice episode. The room with the dead duelists was pretty cool, and Anthy is starting to seem more and more like the antagonist. Or maybe the writer just wants it to seem that way... |

| Wow, this anime sure is taking a dark twist. Anthy's personality is starting to creep me out though, and that scene at the end... I sense a brother-sister complex emerging. >_< |

| What an episode. That elevator scene was so disturbing. I noticed that during the scene, there was a painting or something on the wall that showed a butterfly "de-metamorphosizing" into a chrysalis, a caterpillar, and then... a leaf? I guess this symbolized Kanae having layers of herself removed until her deepest fear was revealed. |

| again, I'm baffled by the number of people who dislike Anthy. I really think if she's having an incest relationship with her brother, it might be against her will/or she doesn't care since she's a Rose Bride (who apparently have no will of their own). I can't wait until we find out how Rose Brides work and what the deal with Anthy is |

| Can we please get a normal sibling relationship for once in this show? lol So Mamiya is also male huh? Makes since since him and Mikage are pretty much the male counterparts of Utena and Himemiya. The scene with Wakaba in the shadow girl's sillouhette really caught me by surprise. |

| I have no intention to overinterpret anything. If the show gives me a reason to interpret something a certain way, then I will, but otherwise I will probably just write it off as atmosphere. That being said, some pragmatic observations and thoughts: The building where 100 duelists died was likely set up by Mikage. That is, I believe he intentionally kill all those duelists in order to gain the power of the black rose crest. As someone who has the power of 100 duelists at his disposal, it is likely Mikage himself that gains the Power of Dios (directly or indirectly) should any of his puppets succeed. The question here is concerning the nature and purpose of the Power of Dios. Although Dios himself seems to be helping Utena in her duels, the power otherwise seems somewhat dark. The Sword of Dios being pulled from the Rose Brides body, the additional power that the sword gains from her kiss(?), and now the Black Rose Crests... it all seems rather morbid. To what end is the purpose of this power? Why does Utena's world need to he "revolutionized" in the first place? Will the world literally die without the Power of Dios? The other question and observation concerns Anthy's brother. We know he was the one talking to Dios/the prince in the previous episode, but is he really Anthy's brother? Is Anthy related to Dios himself? Anthy has kept many things hidden from Utena and at times seems somewhat manipulative, so I'm not sure if we should take their word for it that their siblings. Either way the final scene in this episode was very suggestive, though it's hard to guess at the nature of the situation when we don't know the true nature of either characer involved. Finally, it was nice to finally find out where the shadow figures came from-- Wakaba. |

| Well, this arc's definitely going to have a darker tone to it. So, er...Anthy's brother's fiancée was possessed by the Black Rose in order to get another duelist? That didn't seem to work out for them. That scene at the end with Anthy and her brother, his legs spread on the couch, that "come hither" look...tell me they aren't banging. |

| WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!?!!? THIS EPISODE WAS SO SHOCKING AT SO MANY FREAKING LEVELS. First of all, it was a surprise to know Anthy had a brother; i thought her brother (or someone blood related) was Dios, and that explains why she's the bride. But, is she the bride on her own will? Why is she the bride? Can anyone become the bride by killing the current one? Another thing, does he truly not know anything about her as the bride and the duels? So this Souji character is going to be our new antagonist i see; basically he took over after the Council in the will of bringing the End of the World and making his friend (who happens to look very similar to Anthy) the new bride. This whole thing about the 100 killed students is interesting; is Utena gonna fight 100 dudes!?!? I bet Souji is gonna have to fight her since the other duelist won suffice. Souji seems like a very powerful and influential character. The bodies being burned after their ring was lost on the duel is fairly creepy. I feel sorry for Kanae; after watching that ending now i know why she feels Anthy doesn't like her, MAN, WHAT A SHOCKER. Like, incest!?!?!? Wooow Anthy, you sure are full of surprises. Oh another thing; so was Anthy's brother the one that was talking to Dios during the previous episode uh? |
