Hahahhaha...For what I understood of the series so far, is that Haibanes work, and receive payment...so it´s not weird the idea of Reki buying cigar...
The schoolgirl uniform is the kawaii girl cliche!

but this episode is nice...no one likes carrots!!

Hikari's motive for being the halo bearer was great. ^^ And yeah, the communicators were rather weird (although the little wing movements of Hikari and Rakka were strangely adorable).

It is amusing, that for creation of a nimbus they use the same technology which apply to preparation of rolls. huh.. On the Earth doesn't remain anything sacred! :)

I find this kind of pacing fitting for this show.

We can get to know a lot about the characters. Not to mention, we can get to know more about the nature of their existence. Pretty much, they are doing odd jobs to make a living. Probably, just to sustain their survival.

I don't see any problems between the relationship of humankind and their race. I guess there is no sign of discrimination here which is good.

I think I'm one step closer on the main gist of the story. Each episode gives out clues and hints for me to make predictions. Anyway, I find this show intriguing and entertaining.

Also, I am beginning to like the opening song. It's very calm and relaxing.

I really enjoyed this episode on a couple of things. One of them being Michael McConnohie, and the other being doughnuts.

The Haibane Renmei seem to be very stuck in their traditions and actions. The fact that the Haibane can't directly communicate with the Communicator seems frustrating... they may only communicate with bells. Aside from being able to purchase through the notebook, they are required to work in order to become good examples to the Young Feathers.

I don't quite understand the intent behind the House Mother's wanting to teach Reki a lesson via eating carrots.

i think she did it before since the kids can smell cake out of her and then she ended up washing it thoroughly xD

I'm actually more impressed by the ED, I think it's quite beautiful. As for the show itself, so far i'm finding it very enjoyable and unique.

You can't get used cigarettes. And since Reki works at the school, I doubt they'd pay her in it.

Hikari DEFINITELY used it before she made Rakka's halo... which is why the kids smelt cake XD I completely agree with paskyx.

The beginning was rather interesting, but then it slowed down and became a bit stagnant. I will admit that the world they live in seems very interesting.

Lovely pace this anime has. I suppose relaxing would be close enough to describe it, then again it's not quite that - more like heavenly simplicity of life that fills you with bliss.

I'm also getting quite intrigued by these Haibane Renmei. What's their story? What kind of a world is this? What lies behind the wall?

i love how every episode so far, has had progression and more back ground into their way of living, so now they seem to be only allowed to work in the oldest places, the communication through bells was an interesting little add-on although rather frustrating, but something tells me things wont stay like this...

Is this some kind of purgatory they are in?

We got to see more of the Toga this episode. It seems one of them is allowed to speak and the rest must use hand symbols. It was interesting how they used those bells for communication. The slice of life in this episode wasn't too bad. I normally don't like slice of life, but this was fairly enjoyable. We got a little more information on the crows this episode. The kid said that they could just be trying to be friends with the Haibane rather than not. Maybe they could be guides to the people or something of significance like that if the people interacted with them.

What a pleasant, gentle episode. Liked it quite a bit more than the first two, surprisingly.

It would be awesome if the communicator could use his spirit voodoo shit to tell Hikari misused the ring mold, then had her publicly executed to set an example. :3

Well, I’ll be honest. That was a pointless episode. The previous episodes, while just as slow, were unveiling the premise, so it had the intrigue and mystery that came with the premise. The previous episodes at least had points to them. What this episode did was establish the type of humor this show has. All the episode had was a bunch of humor. The episode also introduced the characters of Hikari and Kuu to us and the Communicator with his temple. Other than that though, there wasn’t much at all. I found myself tuning out a lot and having to repeat because I reached a punchline whose set-up I missed. It didn’t fly by as fast as the previous episodes.

The show looks to have very slow pacing for its entire run. This requires the viewer to get into a certain mindset to watch it, and it’s understandable that the show would turn off people who can’t or do not want to get into that mindset when watching anime.

After reading the discussion page, tradition does seem to play a really big part in this show. I wouldn’t be surprised if it played a big part in the show’s core themes.

While I'm still really into this series. And found the beginning with the Communicator/Toras to be really unsettling and interesting. I'm a little impatient for the plot to get underway. I normally don't mind shows taking their time. But this series is fairly short. And I've been told it gets really good and sort of sheds its slice of life trappings.

I may have found the second half kind of slow. But episodes like this are still pretty necessary. In a show that has such strong atmosphere it feels essential to build up the characters and setting. And there's already some interesting seeds being planted. What with Reki's caginess at the beginning. The joke with using the halo mold for the donuts was pretty funny. Is that why her hair is so staticky? Don't know if that would matter.
