This episode had a sense of tragedy to it..

It's a shame that the world is so cruel tbh. Shikadai's story about the friend he met through shogi was kinda interesting. It's just too bad those bad memories came back to haunt his friend.

I feel bad for Ryogi in this episode. Poor guy really is Gekko’s pawn.

Ayyyy this is the first time capitalist scum gets shaken up in Japanese animation. Seize the ninjutsu of production,...
The flashback though was too long, it was obvious the Gekko killed Ryogi's father after he refused to play along with that "noble thieves" crap. Considering how Gekko is *controlling minds of people" and the killer was evidently out of his mental state. After he saw Ryogi skills he decided to take him as a tool. It should have ended on them meeting up the Byakuya gang. But they have another episode ready, so I guess it would not matter either way.

Losing on shogi, I thought Shikadai just didn't have "IT" in him. But turns out, the Shikaku and Shikamaru blood line is doing it's job perfectly. Was Shikadai losing on purpose for some reason ??
The signature was removed as it was too awesome for mortals to live through. It has already destroyed 35 super computers . We have to make sure it is not used for serial killings and mass-murders.Please don't use words that can kill the mortals by it's awesomeness.

Pretty tragic backstory for Ryogi, but it was standard stuff, with the "parents getting killed at a young age" thing. I think it's safe to assume Gekko had a hand in Ryogi's parents' deaths.

Not much in terms of action in this episode, but the way it set up the next episode still made it pretty thrilling. I liked the confrontation scene at the end, as Shikadai finally learns the unfortunate truth about Ryogi. I swear, Shikadai has been through a lot in this arc.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

d'aaawww...the friendship between Ryougi & Shikadai has now fallen.
and looks like Shikadai would be the one to come-up with the strategy to put a stop to Ryougi & the Byakuya Gang!
4/5.

This episode was just....awesome! It went beyond expectations. It is also one of my fav episodes. The tragedy, mixed with the intense sad music, reminds me the days of Naruto

Shikadai prepared a lot, didn't he. days after days trying to beat Ryogi and confront him in the same time. just like his dad.

well, Ryogi would be beaten soon enough. everyone who get cocky always get that.

Poor Ryogi is being used as a pawn by Gekko and just doesn't know it. I'm sure Gekko has something to do with his parents' deaths.

Boruto and all these children are so privileged ... it makes me sorta angry. Like give them some type of problem uggghhh! Boruto especially like omg

Anyways Shikadai exposed ryogi and ryogi wasn’t happy about it
His story is sad but also generic in shonen... I think it’s really cool they brought back ice style jutsu but I don’t think that it been used as creatively as Zabuzas partner boi (forgot his name). I also want to see the crystal style jutsu again!

Pretty darn good episode. The tension between Shikadai & his friend was good, my only gripe is that I already see the bastard Uncle/Gang leader as the real culprit behind the killing of his friend & wife leaving the kid for the taking... hope I'm wrong so this type of trope can be avoided but I think is unlikely.

Why didn't Shikadai just use his shadow to capture him..?

Daym this ep. had a lot drama in it. And the thing with Ryougi and his uncle. I have seen too much of this shit. He were probably the one killing or be the reason Ryougi's father got killed and who knows maybe he possessed that man who killed her mother. He will be shocked about the truth and maybe just maybe become a member of Konoha. ye ye.

The friendship between Ryougi and Shikadai were awesome. He is clever as his father, I see, and Boruto is clueless as his father too. I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree after all. ;)

Meh, season and meh series. It's 5/9 series for now. Maybe a 6/9 once they spice it up with the canon.

I actually love that they're all privileged, it gives the naruto world a different view point. We've always seen the old cast in their struggle days, so it felt amazing to see them all rise to the top. With the new gen they've always been at the top so it's going to be super interesting to see them all be brought back down to earth and face the reality of being a ninja lol

I noticed it too, that they are quite privileged, and it's so different. Yeah, I want to see them facing the reality of being a ninja. I wouldn't mind if a tragedy happened, and they'd have to change a lot. In the first episode, we see what's going to happen, but it's still going to take a while to get there So I'm guessing all they are going to face are not so enormous problems. So far they've been told that jonins and chunins are going to take care of things for them, while they are the ones who want to fix problems. Basically, they still would have the option to just let the jonins fix the bigger issues for them.
At least these moral issues are quite good ideas at the beginning imo.

--

Anyways, the episode was ok. Before their academy exam, I liked it how they've been hinting that it's coming up. Last episode the scientist guy gave us a hint about that "tool" from the Boruto movie, and this episode it was mentioned in the TV that the chunnin exam is coming up. Probably the next arc, or the arc after it, is going to be the chunnin exam arc. I hope they won't stretch it out much more than the movie, if they don't want to skip it.

Yes definitly, I agree with what your saying. That’s mainly why I waited until like episode 45 to comment about it. The only things is that many of them don’t realize it and think everything needs to go by their morals, the only one who knows his privledge is Denki and that’s mainly because people teased him about a being rich boi... something needs to happen to these children so I can see they can be down to earth... it’s gone on a little to long (for me)

I’ve noticed the chunin exam hints too. I figured it would start in April, that’s when the Spring season starts, plus that’ll be the anime’s year anniversary, but it’s still 6 weeks away and that seems kinda long for this arc to last still. I guess they could have a cool down episode or two inbetween the two story lines...

As for the actual portral of the movie story line, I’m kinda looking forward to it. I liked the movie, but I enjoyed the manga version even more because it delved a little more into some of the other characters (not a whole lot, but a little). So I’m hoping the anime will add even more and delve even more into the characters. Like with Team Metal, Denki, and the other boy, who’s name I can’t remember right now. In the movie we saw Metal at one point participating in the exam, but we didn’t see his teammates. I’m also curious if they’ll bring up
. And then there’s Gara’s kids and also I wonder if the kid from the Mist village will come with the Mizukage... Anyways, all I really wanted to say, before I rambled on, is that the arc definitely needs to be longer than the movie, but not ridiculously so, maybe like 10 to 15 episodes.... I’m also hoping for a new opening!!! I love openings. Haha.

Hmm so this time the thieves directed the people's anger at Denki's family eh. Looks like the true plan of the thieves is coming into play. But with this development it will be hard for the Shinobi to confront the gang though. The origin story though was interesting as it allowed us to see why he feels indebted to the gang leader. It must have been uncomfortable for Shikadai to reveal that he knew who the boy was though. Curious to see what the endgame is though.

Decent episode this week as we got flashbacks of Ryogi's past and the tension between Ryogi and Shikadai, although he got exposed he was trying his hardest to sound innocent. I found it cool when Ryogi shot that Shogi piece around Shikadai and then he did the jutsu where the ice exploded outward.

I wonder when will they show the next OP. I better see the goth loli and Kakashi kid there.

Ryogi's backstory is just like Haku's has emotional manipulation written all over it

I can pretty much predict how this is gonna turn out now. It's pretty obvious the bandit leader is manipulating him and will toss him out when he gets cold feet about their last job. Then Shikadai will use his newfound backbone to save him
