The "missing" cases may just be a way to give us an idea of how much time has passed? For isntance, that between ep 4 (case 9) and ep 1 (case 13) they tackled 3 missions, so it works to show Beato is being a bit more professional by then as she have been taking spy training since at least before case 9.

Another example, on case 9 Chise said she was taken from the attack team again. With her joining after case 7, then we can assume on the one mission between those two she also was taken a role to protect the princess, etc.

Brilliant episode, by far the best one so far. Very interesting to get some more depth on Dorothy outside of her always acting seductive on missions, and it's a shame that her father ended up being killed despite getting the information (presumably because the woman was concerned about him having leaked the information to his daughter); he was far from perfect, but he ended up coming through when it mattered most. It just makes it kinda depressing that she will probably never know what happened and that she'll simply assume the worst about him when he never turns up.

Holy shit is this anime dark. The episode was good, but sad. I bet Dorothy will eventually find out what happened to him.
She being a spy and all, she probably has an idea of what happened to him, but is either putting on a mask or simply choosing not to think about it.

The feels though ;-;

I was taking notes for this episode because I was secretly hoping that it would be as funny as I found the last two, but no. This is probably my favourite episode of the series so far.

They had a pretty smart joke at the beginning. "Half the people who come down this road never come back... Because it leads to the morgue". It's sombre but it's a pretty smart joke. Speaking of the morgue, I'm glad we got some characterisation for some of the workers there. They weren't just crooked nosed monster people, they were depressed people with reasons for being there.I'm not the biggest fan of Dorothy's father but I'm glad he got a little bit of redemption before he was axed off (ba-dum ching). Though I will say, the mafia guy is a fucking cartoon villain.

Lastly, the ending of the episode. It was directed perfectly with the perfect melancholy tone thanks to Beatrice's song and the other tavern-goers singing along merrily. Even the reused animation had meaning. For the morgue workers, it's just another day. So why do anything different. Please, please let the series keep this level of quality for the rest of the series.

Oh gawd, this was very emotional.

Very sad that the father had to die when his daughter started to forgive him. I can somewhat imagine how angry Dorothy would be towards the enemy if she found out about the death.

Case 18...... and it was sad as fook.

Dorothy's past was a tragedy. A happy family torn by circumstances and broken apart by individual weakness. To get beaten to within an inch of her life on the daily was cruel. And just when things seemed to be looking up, her father let his guard down and ended up in the very morgue where he was trying to escape from. The only respite of it all was that Dorothy found out her father's true intentions, but even that was bittersweet at best.

Looking forward to seeing how she acts in the cases after this, whether she develops a ruthless streak or whatnot.

The one thing I found strange about the chronology though.... it actually took 18 Cases before her and Beatrice finally bonded? With all the things they go through, I would have thought the moment would've came sooner.

It's kinda irrelevant but I'm sad that we didn't get the original ED, I really like a page of my story, even though it's not really matching with the tone of the anime as it is much more cheerful.

Interesting episode as always and the insight into Dorothy's childhood was nice. Loved the bonding between Beatrice and Dorothy.

Hmm Beatrice is learning how to pick a lock eh. But man to think that both Ange and Chise will be this bad at teaching others though. So the next mission will be related to Dorothy on a personal level eh. To think that the enemies accomplice that she has to deal with this time will be her father though. So this mission is a joint operation with Dorothy and Beatrice eh well it will be a good opportunity to develop their characters. Man Dorothy's father sure is a piece of work thats for sure. Its nice that Beatrice cares so much about Dorothy's situation though. Hmm so the reason for the poor relationship is the dad being a deadbeat eh. I can see why the serious and responsible Dorothy will be angry with him. To see Beatrice get angry for Dorothy's sake is indicative of how she values the friendship between the two. Man that deadbeat bullying Beatrice like that. To think that the accident would have caused her father to be abusive though. Poor Dorothy to have such a poor childhood. Its nice that Dorothy is opening up to Beatrice though.

In a way both have very similar childhoods in that both their fathers were bad ones. Though less guarded than Ange its still nice to see Dorothy's reaction when Beatrice said they are now friends though. Any wall between countries would divide love ones sadly and is a fact that is well known to both princess and ange as well. Its nice to see that princess and Ange are bonding though. Though she hates her dad it seems that she hasn't given up on him at all. Hmm a false teeth that is used to hide a note eh quite an ingenious method for spies actually. Though her dad is a deadbeat its nice that she at least tries to help him. To think that her dad will use Dorothy as a way to cover his debt though. Well that unsurprisingly made her pretty angry and these collectors are the perfect targets for her anger. As expected of a veteran spy Dorothy has excellent skills in unarmed combat. Nice to know that her dad didn't actually give his daughter to them though. Beatrice's voice imitation skills really is amazing though and is very useful. Its too bad that the dad was unable to keep his promise of reuniting with his daughter though. That scene at the pub where she sang was amazing. In the end though he wasn't the best dad he still cared about his daughter in the end.

This was the best episode yet and not just it was centered around Dorothy.

It also portrayed how much a father can love his daughter, even if it not everything was always perfect. It's a shame, the way it had to end was really tragic.

Great episode with some nice twists here and there.

Well, damn, this series sure likes to hurt people... As bad as the father had become, that was still quite bad for Dorothy.

Although the worst part is that he actually mentioned her to the Duke's agent, which means that if they're smart, they will likely be looking for her, at first to tie up the loose ends, then, once they don't find her, for a spy who at the very least resembles his daughter.

Considering there is no mention so far I think that the Princess parents are dead already. And then they wouldn't be her actual parents, but Ange parents. And then if what Ange said in episode 1 was true, her parents may have died on the war or something like that.

I'm actually really surprised at how this episode turned out. I wasn't too much of a fan of how they did Beatrice's backstory, with them just plopping it out of the blue. The backstory of Dorothy and Danny was pretty much equally tragic, but I liked how they actually put some progression into Dorothy's backstory into this episode. I dunno, it just made it more engaging. And this episode also brought back the storytelling technique they used in episode 2, which involved keeping things hidden from the viewer until later in the episode for more dramatic effect. In particular, the whole thing about Danny not willing to sell his own daughter in order to pay off his own debt sufficiently overturned my expectations of him, and it made it seem like he wasn't such a shitter after all. This was really only impactful with what they did immediately after the reveal, which is to fuckin murder him in cold blood. That stuff combined with the entire ED sequence just made a huge payoff for the rest of the episode. Unfortunately we didn't get to see the aftermath, but the episode was still pretty enjoyable.

I guess we won't know who those unnecessarily flashy characters were at the morgue until later, and I get the feeling they're gonna turn out to be plot-important somewhere down the line.

Case 18? TWO COUR! TWO COUR!

Another excellent episode. I love how it shows rather then tells.

Ange: "Watch closely. See?"
Beatrice: "Uhh..."
Ange: "I'll do it again. Watch...See?"

Chise: "Watch." *SLICE* "Now you try."
Beatice "..."

This anime has a great sense of humor. ^_^

"Dorothy?"
"It's Daisy. You know that mum won't be coming back."

This was a very subtle way to explain the Daisy/Dorothy names, but it was perfectly executed. Less than 5 seconds and you have the names explained completely. I think this is what impressed me the most this episode.

Dorothy's dad was such a good dad! He had a rough life, but he still cared for his daughter and wished her the best up to the very end. Why!!!??? And while I liked how they replaced the ending theme with Dorothy's song, seeing them happy while knowing what happened to Dorothy's dad just makes it even sadder! Waaaah!

Excellent episode, I was really hoping we'd get a Dorothy centric episode sometime soon, I'm glad we got it.

They did a really good job at portraying the Dorothy's father's character, he was an envious, tempered, pathetic man broken by his accident but deep down he still had the heart of a father. Shame he was just a little too much on the greedy side eventually being murdered by the Duke's assistant.

I also really loved how they portrayed Dorothy's love-hate relationship with her father and towards the end it did seem like she was able to show compassion towards him as well.

The final scene of this episode was really bittersweet with Dorothy talk about her dad and the eventual merry singing in the pub contrasting with murder of the father. That part where a slightly drunk Dorothy tells herself that Dad's late is incredibly poignant. :((

That was a nice episode, showing the relation between father and daughter. I think Dorothy's father is not a bad man, he just can't accept reality, but he is a good father, caring about his daughter so much. Episode 5 is about Chise's father and now Dorothy's father. But the ending is really sad...he just want to get a decent life again with his only family.

The first episode that doesn't end on a lighthearted note. It's good that the creators realized that the ED would have been jarring. At least Dorothy and Beatrice were able bond over their similar pasts. And both of them got their moments of badass, especially Dorothy.

I liked that there was even a small bit of Ange and Princess interaction, which still tied in with the theme of the episode. Reuniting friends, lovers and families who are stuck on opposite sides of the wall, kind of like Dorothy and her father, although ironically, Dorothy was relieved that she didn't have to deal with him any longer. In perhaps the darkest episode yet, asking "do you really think you can change the world" is very relevant.

Let's not get carried away. The fact that he refused to sell his daughter into slavery just means he had some standards. It did not suddenly turn him into a good parent, by itself. He used to be a good father before his accident, and now that his daughter came back into his life, he made an attempt to redeem himself. But that's it.

The most likely explanation is that the case numbers are used to represent the chronological order and the amount of time passed between the events of the episodes. In short, to help us imagine a timeline of events. We'll probably never get to see all the cases, even if a second season happens. I think it will make Team White Pigeon more believable if we can assume that most of their cases are routine affairs; not interesting enough to warrant their own episodes.

Something I've noticed over the past few episodes... While the Yuki Kajiura music stands out on its own, it isn't being used by the director very well. Nice way to keep track of time passing.

Decent épisode. Of course, a stand-alone but I don't expect any long background intrigue anymore (unless you consider the masterplan of the heroines as one, and that's little chance to conclude within the show).

4/5 In a full-length series, I'll be all for characters focuses up to ep10-11 (even a bit more later) but if this is a half-length one...

Wow, what a mess that one was. The father was no doubt a broken, miserable man.
I don't even think money would have gotten him on the right track. But at the very least, it was a step forward for him to reconnect with his daughter. Really the saddest part is how Daisy and her father effectively made up, but never got to affirm that rekindled bond with each other.
