i hope they can do the farmland saga arc ^_^

I hope so too. The prologue has lots of great, exciting action that I'm sure a lot of people will love, but the farming arc is what really brought the story to greatness because of the way it reshapes the protagonist's entire mindset and forces him to confront all his past actions of the 1st arc.

This was the first manga I ever downloaded, accidentally, when I was looking for booklet scans of the Leaves' Eyes album Vinland Saga.
I still haven't read it yet.

it's been 13 years since this series began serializing in 2005, it's been bound to happen some time, and here it is!
I've been reading this for the past month and I'm now at chapter 101.
now adapting 4 chapters into one episode is too unrealistic because this manga is released monthly, so the chapters are longer than weekly released manga.
I think that an episode can take 2-2.5-3 chapters and it would be crammed, I remember the first chapter of the series was 90 pages alone so that's almost 3 chapters.
I'm glad it is WIT Studio because they are quite good at what they do, unlike other studios whose quality or budget is just not good enough and always have to have junky animation in alot of scenes especially when the characters are standing far away, or the characters just don't seem to fit in with the background.
But WIT Studio has none of these issues and maintains high quality animation so there's nothing to worry about.
It Would be nice to have Tetsuro Araki working on this , but we still don't know so...
The biggest thing I think is challenging is picking the right voice actors whose voices actually fits the characters perfectly.
So,we'll see what'll happen I guess.

your right I forgot all about the chapter length.... it could get really messy trying to cram 54 30+ page chapters in 1 cor...hopefully its a 2 cor

Until word about the director comes this is scary i am happy as it gotta get a wide appeal that it deserves and the studio who did attack on titan but this is like the oppsite of mainstream kinda surprised i love this manga i collected all 9 hardcovers but seeing the detail of the art, how subtle the manga is, topic matter and how beloved this series is basically how vagabond and berserk fans feel. I'm excited for the new fans i doubt they capture the spirit of the manga its almost impossible for a manga that seems unadaptable. I scared about how much censor it going to be remember how tame Teraformers is but it had terrible cenesor but this manga is pretty hardcore. Anyways i can't say i too excited i love the prospect of new fans joining the series, because the manga been threatened to be cancelled the publisher so much times hopefully this changes the publisher mind.

I'm Happy, scared and worried.

this is due to the style of the manga the immense detail is almost impossible to replicate in 2D unless the production is that amazing they probably do a hybrid. But be alot more CGI in this show than attack on titan most likely.

Wit Studio is quite good at adapting, but choosing what to adapt is the question. Just started Vinland Saga a week ago huh, I guess I'll catch up to it.

Genuinely surprised an anime would be produced from the manga, considering its themes. Hopefully it does the manga justice, unlike the recent Berserk adaptation.

Heard so many good things about the manga and since we've seen what Wit did with AoT this will certainly get good.

Almost dropped from my seat, unexpected, if this is going to have SnK animation and it keep loyal as much as possible with the manga, could be enough to even become a masterpiece.

Now I womder how much content are they going to adapt, might be a 1 cour but a 26 episodes would be pretty sweet.

Great news. Wit is definitely one of the best studios in the industry for this job. The subject matter also seems to fit them perfectly, considering their track record with medieval(-ish) action anime. The show is in good hands.

Makes me all the more sad that alongside these recent announcements of awesome manga/novel adaptations (Vinland Saga, Golden Kamuy, Boogiepop, Grand Blue, as well as the Made in Abyss and Devilman adaptations that aired recently) we have the travesty that is Berserk 2016/2017. Sigh.

I am so thrilled and excited, omg. This has been my favorite manga for ages, and I'm constantly gushing about it to my friends. Hopefully I can convince them to give it a try when it's animated! (Though I secretly think that nothing can compare to Makoto Yukimura's detailed and beautiful manga.)

I am concerned it will be dropped right before the farming arc, however... The beginning of the story really drew in a lot of younger and action-hungry fans, and a lot of people view the arcs after and during "Farmland Saga" to be boring or frustrating. Those parts are what really made me love the story, however, because of the amazing character growth shown in our main character, Thorfinn. Hopefully the studio will realize that the whole thing is a story worth adapting into an animated form! Otherwise, everyone would miss out on amazing characters like Hild and Gudrid, or the changed Thorfinn!

Anyways, I'm certain this will become my favorite anime alongside my favorite manga. So excited!

yeah I was mistaken. The time skip happens around chapter 55 so I assumed they would be able to fit that comfortably in a 12-13 episode anime, but Vinland saga has like 30 page chapters so its gonna need multiple seasons

This manga really deserves a great anime adaptation, I hope WIT Studio can deliver. The prologue arc is fantastic and will definitely be popular, if they handle it right.

The Farmland Saga part (which I think is great) will be more divisive since its completely different though but thats not a concern yet.

I wonder when this might air? I was on the Berserk(Manga) page and saw Vinland Saga in recommendations. Checked it out and saw the anime page. Lol preview image was enough to catch my interest, a Viking anime is a great idea!

Looking forward to this, definitely going to try when it's out. Unless the average rating is awful like 5 or less, but somehow I doubt that's going to happen.

Just a bit of warning though the anime is likely going to adapt the first 4 volumes (technically 8 but the NA release are 2 in 1 bundled hardcovers) which is basically all an action seinen and trust me its a wild ride. After that though the series becomes more of a medieval SOL/economic series now I know the story does become more of a pure adventure story later but if its just pure action you want be cautious there. The chapters I have read for Farmland which is half of Volume 5 (Volume 5 until I think Volume 8 is how long Farmland lasts I believe) are really good especially with regards to character development but just a heads up its not action all the time (though even in Farmland its not completely absent and the dramatic moments are still plenty). Plus I would argue Farmland was a good decision by the author. Still it easily has some of the best villains I have seen in anime/manga and the character development especially for the main MC is really really good especially at the part I am at.

As for the anime I bet you not until late 2019 or early 2020. WIT's probably heads up in work due to AOT and I think Yukimura recently said they have started gathering together a crew. So if it is a 2 cour show which it has teased/needs to be they are going to need minimum 7-8 months to 1 year.

Sounds great and sounds fair. Probably a good candidate tomorrow's new breakout anime IP in 2020(AOT's gonna prob need a S4 at least). I don't mind waiting, after all WIT needs to deliver this year's possible AoTY competing with S;G0.

Slice of Life can be cool if they keep up the quality and do it well. I didn't watch many before but beginning to, it's certainly worth it when done well.

What is "economic series" mean though?

I don't want to spoil anything but all I meant by that is the arch is about them trying to make enough profit through farming/trading their goods. Sorry if that was confusing but no I agree SOL can be very good and so far it has been here (especially for the main MC as really the villain is the biggest focus in the Prologue arch's first 4 volumes and what the anime will cover) but I think if this first season is a break out IP some may be a little surprised what the story would turn into for a second season though obviously from the very get go this story was going to turn into more of an adventure than a pure action story as its in the title.

I think the answer is pretty much 100% yes.

AOT may have a similar genre shift too although since S3 is said to be 2 cour it should be able to get back to the usual. What I can say without spoilers(I didn't read all the manga but got spoiled a little) is that some of the complainers called the next segment "Attack on Politics". I was worried if it was 1 cour that the entire 3rd season will be a lot different from what people are used to though I am not worried about this also meaning a decline in quality as what I know suggests it will still be great just different for a while. I am fine either way as high quality SoL is cool with me but worried if fans may turn on it and if it could lose viewers in Japan which could affect the chances of S4 getting made. Especially given that S4 would be quite a ways away as I am assuming Vinland Saga will follow sometime after AoT S3, with AoT S4 after Vinland Saga completes or goes on break.

Reading some comments about anime viewership ratings shows that they are very fickle. As a fan of AoT I will enjoy either scenario especially knowing great things are coming with Vinland Saga but do worry if it could lose popularity. At least we know WIT's follow up to AOT S3 is going to be legit too.

TBH I am pretty sure this is going to be a breakout IP. Character designs are fantastic from what I can see, story sounds like it's going to be fantastic as well. One plus with genre shifts is it keeps thing really unpredictable and when always done well keeps things fresh. I think AotY could be a possibility given that I feel with AoT the WIT Studio is capable of AotY level plus this is a very original setting(I know of no other examples of Viking anime) and judging by comments as well as the very impressive Rank #38 on Top Manga is a very high quality original work. AotY could happen as long as it doesn't air same year as like Code Geass R3 or something else top tier like that or Steins Gate or JoJo Steel Ball Run which is the best JJBA part.

I do very much wonder this: Is Vinland Saga a series where I could check out the manga first or is it one where I'd best stay away so I can experience the story fresh for the 1st time when the anime airs?

I hope this one won't be censored if it's brutal[/quote]TBH I am surprised the "manga weebs" didn't enlighten us already. I suppose it's because you never know if a manga is really going to get an anime adaptation till we literally get announcement like this. Also we never know if an anime adaption could be a CGI nightmare like Berserk 2016.

At least with WIT on the job we can rest easy. AOT style animation going to be perfect for a Viking anime.

I think only by what must be the worst studio/worst director. Anybody who actually knows what they're talking about will know implicitly that the traditional anime format should be used. Anyone who cares about anime will know of series that show that epic scale with giant enemies is no reason why the traditional format cannot be used and can name examples like Attack on Titan or One Punch Man that outright show it works.

I can only assume that Team 2016 Berserk had absolutely no familiarity with contemporary anime hits like AOT/OPM or the original anime Kenpuu Denki Berserk.

(Side note: Grand Blue looks interesting)

Yeah I have heard AOT shifts but it still retains its action though the upcoming arch there is less of that more world building from what I have heard which I am actually excited for since most of the story in the anime focused around fighting the titans so learning about the government and the issues inside the walls would be great. (it hasn't been touched on outside of Levi's OVA backstory episode) I heard though that the second half of S3 its full on action at least from what I have heard from the tidbits from manga readers I know. (and it seems manga readers have really enjoyed the past few chapters so I am not worried on that front). Attack on Titan's transition from what I can tell from these hints and what has been portrayed in S2 was a shift more to a seinen action story from its shonen roots.

Vinland's shift is more drastic and people who are there just for the action I think might be disappointed. Though I am reading a collected hardcover volume where I can binge read chapter after chapter rather than waiting a week for one chapter to be released. Similar to what I heard from AOT (with its Uprising arch) binging through the chapters gives a better experience and to some degree I can understand that if you were waiting weekly for Vinland Farmland might get a bit boring. I have been enjoying it though and need to get back to reading it.

As for what to do wait for the anime or read the manga I would wait for a PV and if it looks like the visuals and sound are great it may be better to wait. A proper adaptation in my opinion with good sound (if they can get some traditional nordic music in even better) and good VA plus if they can animate those action scenes right and I think it will be a massive contender for AOTY. Though the manga has some really highly detailed art and I wonder if they will censor anything Vinland had a decent amount of gore (eyeballs on arrows, people being caught in half etc).

I wonder what would have happened if Wit Studios or Madhouse, decided to be series about it and doing a proper adaptation for Berserk...

i wonder how far they will adapt though

i hope they can do the farmland saga arc ^_^

It would be really cool to see the farmland arc animated, but I wouldn't want them to dare get into the it if it means cutting things short, especially if this adaptation ends up only getting one cour (though of course I'm hoping the anime adaptation will be successful enough to continue past just one season... the story for me really started picking up once the political intrigue became more predominant, which we most definitely won't see in the first season, unless they hyper-bumrush the damn thing).

I’m looking forward to this!
Wit Studio have proven themselves with plenty of works, so I have full faith in them to make this a definite hit! 2-cours, please! Seeing how Karakuri Circus just received 3 cours, it should be no surprise to see this being 2 cour at least so I hope it works out that way!

I just hope that Tetsurou Araki and Sawano Hiroyuki are a part of this project too, it’ll be amazing! Some viking-like music backed up with some brilliant directing will make this a brilliant show!
