Is there a reason you enjoyed Monster so much that it became one of your favorites? Not trying to be condescending, i enjoyed it but i suppose it was tiresome at some point during the whole series to the point as if Urasawa wanted to extend a never ending story. I was wondering because i see that a lot of people had it in their favorite but personally it just didn't quite work for me, but still very good. Other than that, nice picture of "The Dude" haha!! Are you related to Archaeon in any way?

nice reviews

Would you honestly say its worth reading the 800+ chapters of one piece? I mean it has to be the best selling of all time for a reason, but how long does it take to get good?

your reviews are great

Nah, it wasn't anything as silly as Brexit that made 2016 a shitty year. More personal, in terms of family/relationships that made it a particularly crappy year. Haha yeh, i think my problem of watching far too many poorly received anime has caught up with me, to the point where i can only really stomach watching seasonal shows (due to there only being one episode a week).

Yes! Definitely watch The Thing. More so, because i am curious to hear your opinion on the film. I'll have to definitely find some time to give Vikings a try some time then. With the exception of the Simpsons, i really don't watch much in terms of TV shows nowadays.Sounds good, especially if it captures the political/brutality of the Anglo Saxon/Viking era of Britain "a la" Vinland Saga. I definitely need to watch Once upon a time in the West sometime. It has been on my plan to watch list for quite a while now. The other films you mention i do really like. With the exception of a couple of instances where it is pretty funny, Deadpool was a let down. A film that claims to subvert the superhero genre, yet ends up becoming the very thing it claims to parody. If you ever want a recommendation for a film in a particular genre then just let me know and i'll try to provide something :)

In all honesty, Onihei just feels cheap. At best i would describe it as perfunctory. Not particularly bad with its stories, but none of them feel like any real investment was put into them. Also, the budget of the show must have been low as it genuinely looks like a show from over 10 years ago. I've only seen the first episode of Rakugo and it was good. Hoping it will live up to the quality of the first season. Even if it doesn't, i expect it to still be better than most shows this season. Gintama is pretty entertaining so far. Seems more serious rather than comedic, which i particularly enjoy. Unfortunately no Shinsengumi hampers my enjoyment of it lol. Pretty impressive target you have set yourself to cycle per day. Good luck with that!

Aww... ;( Willl not even Rakugo fix this this? I kid. It's unfortunate that I won't see you as much on here. I can't say that I have been watching anime nor reading manga too much lately either. At least, Not nearly as much as I used to. I've been watching movies more lately, I'd say. I do hope that whatever you do ends up as grand experiences for you. A cycling trip? It sounds like you're gonna be more active than me. Lol.

Yea, I'm loving Vinland Saga. I'm up to the point where I'm reading as new chapters come out. No character in it better than Askeladd. I very much like the historical genre as well.

I'm doing well. Life's good and my semester started up a few weeks ago. No worries on the reply, man.

Yooo dude, your taste is great! I love Kokou no Hito

Hey, Nervin. What do you think about my first review? Is it good enough or is it too short?

No worries about time passing between replies. I also suffered a 'brown-out' period two years ago where anime simply lost it's charm for me. Whatever your reason(s) for heaving that sigh and turning away are, it is sad to know you're likely not alone...

"The Big Lebowski" -- your profile pic sure looks like 'The Dude' - so I assumed....my bad! About that check in the opening scene... the date on it reads 09/11/1991 -- which, along with "The Matrix" - where 'Neo's' passport expires on 09/11/2011 is just weird....

Nervin, while I don't know why anime has failed you, or failed to keep your interest, but as a guy in his 50's who went through his own phase, I'd be willing to listen if you want to chat (gee, I sound like an AA Sponsor....) :-)

cheers!

Nice reviews, the one on Shouwa is particularly great.
And since I've noticed that we have somewhat similar taste, may you recommend me some great titles? I'm genuinely trying to raise my mean score.
ShaneMcCormack80 Jan 21, 6:15 PM
Love the reviews man. Wondering wether there is anyone else like you that has similar taste and does reviews like you do?
Th334 Jan 21, 5:48 PM
No worries, thanks for answering! Great, 3 more people is better than I hoped anyway!

Just curious, may I ask what made you feel a bit over anime/manga recently? Have you just watched most good shows already so it's too hard to find anything worthwhile, or you just got over the medium itself? I'm new to this myself so curious too how long this will be my primary medium of entertainment. :-) Have you been reading/watching something else instead of anime/mange lately, or have you been up to completely different things altogether in your free time?

Hi man!, loved your Emanon review, when i bought it i was sure i would enjoy it, but not as much as i did! I mean, the manga wasn't specially cheap and i was waiting for a sale to happen, when it finally did i was so blessed. I was also planning on reading Homunculus, but the manga stopped publishing here, and i don't really fancy reading scans as it makes my eyes hurt.

Anyways, you said you would like some recommendations, so I think you should check the manga "MPD Psycho" or at least find it interesting, and anime wise i would recommend you Xam'D.

Thanks. Happy 2017 to you as well. Can't be any worse than 2016 was for me.

Yeh i decided to put the profile picture back after i watched The Thing in the cinema before Xmas, and i still love it after viewing it about 20 times now. I've heard of Vikings, is that the one with Gabriel Byrne in it? I don't really watch much tv shows nowadays but i'll give it a try if i change my mind. Haven't really watched much GoT, from what little i have seen it was ok i guess. I've been pretty heavily spoiled to the plot of it so i doubt i will ever bother watching it in its entirety now. Yeh i prefer watching movies at the moment. Find myself spending more time on Letterboxd than MAL now. Any good films you watched recently?

The Harambe meme was funny the first couple of times i saw it. But like all memes, it gets old fast. DiU really does pick up once Kira features more prominently in the story. The story begins to feel less episodic and have more direction to it. Hope you enjoy the rest of the season once you finish it. They'll probably adapt part 5 of JoJo soon, but I'm pretty ambivalent to that one. I've noticed that Drifters is having a second season so that may help with the inconclusive ending. I'll probably give it another chance at some point if i have nothing else to watch. I plan on watching Onihei as well. Hopefully it will be half decent, although i know nothing about what it is about. I've picked up a few seasonal shows at the moment, but with the exception of Rakugo nothing stands out. Going to watch the new Gintama later, so will be interesting if it will carry on being serious in tone or more comedic like it used to be.
