Im also doing really fine recently, though im afraid, that my interest in anime has died irrevocably. When you think about it, the medium, while not representing much quality of it's works, is deprived of any creativity, as most of the shit is based around pleasing the edgy teenagers and diversity as there are maybe dozen titles, which stories are actually cleverly written, stand out from typical tropes or are of very high artistic values (i am winking at you, Texhnolyze) and even worth rewatching right at this point, nonetheless the only shows, which i will really consider rewatching in the future will be Mushishi, Hunter x Hunter and LoGh. Anime is very poor as a medium and lacks substance for demanding viewers, hence there are alot of funky elitists on MAL, spreading the "wisdom" of their superior anime tastes in the thicket of shitty shows about cute girls and harem crap. Don't get me wrong, it's okay to enjoy any type of entertainment, however i would not say that anime is the right kind of entertainment for myself anymore. And i do hold really warm memories for anime, especially for some of my favourite shows from it (Mainly Hunter x Hunter. the show isn't anything out-of-the-world, however i will probably never get tired of it. Even if it's not very complex and is actally pretty straightforward, it just clicks with me on many levels and probably my enjoynment of it is highly personal) and watching anime was probably my pioneer step towards enjoying art more and becoming more sensitive to it, however as i discovered, that there are much better things to discover, enjoy and learn from in literature, non-fiction or movies... i ain't going back.

We share the love for Vinland Saga and Hyouge Mono.

Greetings from Portugal.

I see. The show itself has a multitude of problems ranging from misplacement of music, to overuse of flashbacks to annoying comedic relief characters, so it's far from perfect in any sense, yet still stands for me as one show that I like in spite of all it's problems. On the contrary, I found Erin to be easily one of the greatest characters in the medium. I have heard a few complaints about her voice before, mostly how yeah, it doesn't really change much even across the many time skips in the series. It's a show heavily centered around her so I guess whether you actually like her character or not may be a large factor in your enjoyment of the show. On the initial watch, I took the events of the story merely as they were, embedded into the story, enjoying Erin's development from a child to young adult. On the rewatch however, I realized just how much there was beneath the surface and how many of the characters actions, really stood for something. So now I see it as far more than a simple coming of age story. If you want, you can look for contradictions and how many times rules/codes are broken. Hopefully you'll enjoy what is to come, but if you still don't like it a whole lot by the end, if you want, you can read my "review" on it. I say "review" because it's not exactly a conventional review and mostly spoils the entire show. However, it may help shine a new "light" on how I view the series. Anyhow, good luck. :)

greeting good reviewer. i am sorry this is random encounter between us, but it cant be helped in this day, where internet is global and all strangers in a way are one big family. i know you are one of the best reviewers out there. i was hoping that you can help me in my quest to fulfil this question. right now i am asking several reviewers the same question.

what is the closest anime to this phrase
"characters are far better than the story"

i dont say the story need to be shit, or that the characters need to be great. i just want to see an anime where the character section is far above the story section.

if not is there any opposite.

thanks

Howdy! Haven't heard you in a while. How is life treating you and this crappy industry?

Is there a reason you enjoyed Monster so much that it became one of your favorites? Not trying to be condescending, i enjoyed it but i suppose it was tiresome at some point during the whole series to the point as if Urasawa wanted to extend a never ending story. I was wondering because i see that a lot of people had it in their favorite but personally it just didn't quite work for me, but still very good. Other than that, nice picture of "The Dude" haha!! Are you related to Archaeon in any way?

Would you honestly say its worth reading the 800+ chapters of one piece? I mean it has to be the best selling of all time for a reason, but how long does it take to get good?

your reviews are great

Nah, it wasn't anything as silly as Brexit that made 2016 a shitty year. More personal, in terms of family/relationships that made it a particularly crappy year. Haha yeh, i think my problem of watching far too many poorly received anime has caught up with me, to the point where i can only really stomach watching seasonal shows (due to there only being one episode a week).

Yes! Definitely watch The Thing. More so, because i am curious to hear your opinion on the film. I'll have to definitely find some time to give Vikings a try some time then. With the exception of the Simpsons, i really don't watch much in terms of TV shows nowadays.Sounds good, especially if it captures the political/brutality of the Anglo Saxon/Viking era of Britain "a la" Vinland Saga. I definitely need to watch Once upon a time in the West sometime. It has been on my plan to watch list for quite a while now. The other films you mention i do really like. With the exception of a couple of instances where it is pretty funny, Deadpool was a let down. A film that claims to subvert the superhero genre, yet ends up becoming the very thing it claims to parody. If you ever want a recommendation for a film in a particular genre then just let me know and i'll try to provide something :)

In all honesty, Onihei just feels cheap. At best i would describe it as perfunctory. Not particularly bad with its stories, but none of them feel like any real investment was put into them. Also, the budget of the show must have been low as it genuinely looks like a show from over 10 years ago. I've only seen the first episode of Rakugo and it was good. Hoping it will live up to the quality of the first season. Even if it doesn't, i expect it to still be better than most shows this season. Gintama is pretty entertaining so far. Seems more serious rather than comedic, which i particularly enjoy. Unfortunately no Shinsengumi hampers my enjoyment of it lol. Pretty impressive target you have set yourself to cycle per day. Good luck with that!

Aww... ;( Willl not even Rakugo fix this this? I kid. It's unfortunate that I won't see you as much on here. I can't say that I have been watching anime nor reading manga too much lately either. At least, Not nearly as much as I used to. I've been watching movies more lately, I'd say. I do hope that whatever you do ends up as grand experiences for you. A cycling trip? It sounds like you're gonna be more active than me. Lol.

Yea, I'm loving Vinland Saga. I'm up to the point where I'm reading as new chapters come out. No character in it better than Askeladd. I very much like the historical genre as well.

I'm doing well. Life's good and my semester started up a few weeks ago. No worries on the reply, man.

Hey, Nervin. What do you think about my first review? Is it good enough or is it too short?
