If you move to a city full of lamps, there is bound to be a mystery behind it. LLLL is a supernatural shoujo manga that incorporates some comedic elements as well as romantic ones.

The story of LLLL revolves around Oregano, a girl who recently lost her parents. She moves to a town full of lamps where her brother works, who assists a lampist. There is a reason behind all those lamps: supernatural beings, "shades", steal human souls and trap them in their own lamps. Without the lamps made by lampists, "shades" would have free reign to capture human souls.

The story doesn't focus on the supernatural beings itself; rather, it focuses on Oregano and her interactions with the surroundings. The title LLLL has an actual meaning; each chapter focuses on a theme in the following order: lamp,  light, life and love. This is done well, making it for the reader easier to understand the setting for the story.

The narrative doesn't get boring: with comedic reliefs and the story itself, which seems very intriguing, keeps the story enjoyable. The manga's story isn't deep, nevertheless it treats subjects like loneliness and forgotten objects as well.

The cast of character is small in LLLL. Little character development takes place, though through the secondary characters the reader can grasp the situation of the town, as well as understand the "shades" better. I personally would like to see more about story about the shades themselves and their interactions with the townsfolk, but that is a minor issue. One thing to note is the fact that the interaction between Oregano and the secondary character is rather predictable.

The art of LLLL is simple and average. The characters are well drawn, though sometimes it was difficult to know the gender of the characters. The backgrounds are simple and displayed when needed, just don't expect an impressive art style.

LLLL was overall a very enjoyable read: with the interesting story about lamps that catched me at first, to the treatment of the different L's and the comedic situations. I can definitely recommend LLLL as it is a relative short manga with 4 chapters and an intriguing theme.

Thank you for reading.
