It's hard being Akko, she never do the things right, but she keeps trying, that's a good point.

Decent episode. Animation sometime reminded me of classic cartoons like Tom and Jerry with its wackiness and direction and was really nice to look at. Also Akko looked amazing as a bunny, too bad we probably won't see her again like this. Though one thing really bothers me: why does she still suck so hard at magic, and why all the class laughing at her seems to barely affect her. Most normal people would be really hurt by it but she just is angry for a moment and then seems to forget it even happened. Weak writing.

In my opinion Akko is in self-delusion since the beginning. She is convinced she is a kind of chosen one with incredible magic power hidden in her. Many times in the previous episodes she believes she will use magic in an incredible fashion, win the race easily, save the school easily, she is definitely an attention seeker, she boasts many times about her abilities, she is totally overestimating herself and does indeed quickly and "naturally" dismiss others opinions, all that just because it worked out few times with chariot's wand and because she has an ego tenfold the size of Diana's, just ... without the abilities.

In that regard I think the writing is consistent because she is like that since the beginning.

It was a despicable but useful (she doesn't get hurt) aspect of her very strong personality, something you find generally in antagonists. But with this episode she might have received the needed "wake-up call" and maybe gained a bit of humility. So maybe it was the first step for her character growth. We'll see in episode 7 how she behaves.

I watched ep 7..

Finally a proper episode!
After watching the two movie projects (and totally falling in love with the art style/animation) I really had my hopes up for the show, only to be more and more disappointed every week.
Akko's character was written so onedimensional, unrelatable and annoying and the plot basically followed the same pattern every single time:
situation x with some sort of regulation/punishment -> MC decides to disobey/rampage for the sake of some selfish goal, drags everybody into it -> everything goes wrong, escalation -> Diana saves the day, MC doesn't acknowledge her mistakes -> rinse repeat

It frustrated me to such an extent that I could hardly bring myself to keep watching (which is why I've only seen ep 6 now) but whee, what a surprise!
Seeing Akkos unreasonable tantrum-like behavior tuned down a bit made me really glad, awesome character development there. I felt somewhat relieved when watchingthe key-scene The fact that Ursula is Chariot was basically written in caps over the last episodes, so the confirmation is also great to see. Maybe this will push the story further.
Lastly, Andrew also brought in some fresh wind. Maybe (paired with his dad) a future antagonist? At least some superior plot may be foreshadowing, which would be superbe.

TL;DR For those who feel like dropping this (or already did), give it another try!

This show was always like Harry Potter. It's influence is obvious and in almost every aspect of this show. You also need to use your words better. I don't know if English is your native language, but I don't know what you mean by "MC is heroine and around by girls." Is there a problem with a show having a heroine surrounded by girls. And there's obvious more to Andrew than just being an attractive guy, and plenty of the other female characters weren't fawning over him.

Your summation of the formula is fairly vague and also wrong in many episodes. Episode 1 didn't have any regulations or punishments, and Akko was trying to follow the rules, and Diana wasn't involved at all. 2 had Akko save the day with Diana's help, the conflict there wasn't about breaking any rules. 3 didn't have Akko getting any punishment, and Diana didn't save the day at all. 4 had Akko breaking rules not for a selfish goal, but for her friend, and the end of the episode was had Akko acknowledged she learned something.

The first few episodes of this show were exactly what I expected. The OVAs had Akko already as a student for awhile, where as this series started from her beginning. The OVAs where also basically episodes, so I expected episodic adventures.

You're right about my formula being unfitted. While typing I already noticed it had flaws, but was too lazy to go more in depth/stretch my comment unnecessarily. Sorry about that!
Basically what I wanted to say is for my personal preference the developments pace was too slow in the first episodes and that I was then delighted to see that kind of jump in the 6th one.

And about the OVAs taking place later in the timeline - good point! I didn't give this much thought but it totally makes sense.
Seems as if we're to expect a good progression from here on and I'm looking forward to it:3

Exactly. It's apparent they made this series with the intention that not everyone who's seen it has also seen the OVAs, so they had to spend the first few episodes reintroducing characters and concepts, like Akko's immediate friends, Amanda and her gang, Diana, and lore bits like Lotte's ability to speak to spirits. I now feel that we are firmly in new territory, since the majority of "lore" in the LWA OVAs wasn't that vital and it's the character elements that were important to reintroduce. As we are now in the series, the characters as we knew them by the end of Enchanted Parade are more or less reestablished.

Kagari had a quite an adventure with Lord Andrew.
Ursula saved Akko & Andrew and she masked her hair because Akko would notice that she the one Akko die hardly idolises!

Another bit I've discovered.

In the last few moments of Episode 1, the Professor who was escorting Akko to her room says that Akko is in debt.

In Episode 6, Andrew's father mentions he intends on having Witches be in debt.

Wow, Karma is really biting the Witches in their prune asses.

-Those poor mice
-This OP has no business being this magical
-Looks like the only dude in the OP is the son of the Earl of Hanbridge
-Frank seems like a jobber
-Andrew turned out different than I expected
-Come to think of it, Andrew and Diana seem to have the same expressions on their faces, which is befitting for their relationship with each other
-I don't know why but Akko's screams after getting her ears grabbed were fukin hilarious
-Looks like Andrew likes animals wink wink
-akko's so ded
-Wait I thought all the witches' spells were said in Latin, so why didn't she recognize the language on the plaque
-hey akko did the classic cartoon thing where she briefly walks on air
-hey they did the thing where a character sees another character's underwear but they flipped the conventional genders
-I thought it was Diana that broke their fall but apparently it was Ursula
-young chariot is a qt, and the flashbacks told a bunch of backstory without using any words
-The background music was super amazing during the scene at the Fountain of Polaris
-It seems Akko has been forced to realize
-andrew's a bro

This episode didn't feel quite as magical as the other episodes, but that's kind of expected with the introduction of Andrew. There were still some pretty good parts of the episode, but the length of the good parts was pretty short compared to the length of the episode. The scene at the fountain was still pretty spectacular in regards to the visuals, the music, and Chariot's backstory, and the episode was worth watching solely because of that scene. The scene made Akko's undying dedication to Chariot a lot more tangible since her and Chariot have now been shown to be cut from the same cloth. From the flashbacks, Chariot's had her own share of mishaps but still manages to inspire others through magic. In addition to this, the banter between Andrew and Diana as they were touring the premises was pretty nice, but I have no further impressions about him. The whole escape from Arcas was also pretty nice, as well, so the episode was overall decent, but not too spectacular.

Also Akko somehow continues to be super endearing

Seems like my complaints are being addressed one at a time, feels nice. Akko finally showed some self awareness, and accepted Ursula's help! And I hope this is just the beginning. The whole scene was all-around beautiful, and the voice acting and visuals both presented a scene that was just cute and emotional enough for the situation, if a little on the cheesy side. The point is, I felt the "magic" of the show working again. I've only heard music like this from anime in Ghibli films, so that was pretty refreshing. Oh yeah, and a little extra backstory on Chariot - Akko is even more similar to her than we thought. No wonder Ursula has taken such a quick liking to her.

I'm not sure what to think of the aristocrat and what his plan is, and Andrew didn't seem to be all that different in his opinion on the ride home, either. But it was important to see what some of the outside world think of magic. Some are ambivalent, some find its old-fashioned nature charming, and other find it utterly useless and stupid, although it's kind of odd to view someone as an enemy if you believe they're completely useless.

The more the show goes on, the less I want to go to Luna Nova. Akko shouldn't be punished for being a slow learner.

Sucy's love for mushrooms :3 I love herrrr. Bunny Akko is also pretty cute.

Andrew and Diana are literally perfect for each other. They're both stuck-up and full of teenage angst. Andrew may be infatuated by Akko's whimsical nature/love for magic, but they aren't a good match for each other.

Wasn't expecting the sudden Chariot backstory. She seemed like a pretty good student in that flashback...wonder what made her name a four-letter word around Luna Nova.

Andrew and Akko were such an interesting team.
It's nice to see how the girl who fails at class, is laughed at and misses the party is the one who gets to meet the handsome guy, to enter the portal to the Fountain of Polaris and to learn that Chariot wasn't that great when she was young (she even visited the Fountain and was rejected by it) and had to work a lot to be awesome. Truly inspiring.

Looks like Andrew will like magic from now on, unlike his father, which is good.

So, this is the crossed story of magic disappearing and of someone choosing a successor as the new Messiah of magic? I guess Akko will save magic then.

If Chariot was cheering people with her thing, maybe the end of magic comes from people ceasing to believe in it?

Just, wow.

What makes Akko's slow progress special to me is its relatability to us as humans in the world. Everyone has an idealized version of themselves, but the process required to get there is often more than we feel like we can bear. We have all wished we could just take the easy way out when things became challenging, and this episode helps remind us that we can't just get handed our true potential; it is developed with great effort. Just wanting something really bad isn't enough.

What's better is that it shows that even the people we admire the most developed into their idealized selves from working through struggle and not being defined by their mistakes. The ending was definitely emotional!

This is definitely the best episode so far!

Fantastic episode. Loved how we saw visions of Chariot also struggling initially as a witch but with hard work and determination to succeed, she eventually grew up to showcase her potential as a real witch earlier in her life unlike Akko, who while dreams to be a witch after idolizing Chariot, did not put in the genuine effort and work to be one. She's a slacker, someone who wants shortcuts all the time or sleeps through lessons or constantly gets into trouble while just asking herself mentally why she isn't as good as others regardless. Atleast she got handed a reality check by that fountain and even by teacher Ursula in a way.

Also, she looks nice in bunny ears ngl.
