What? Really? I don't know much about the origin story, I just got an email from J-List, saw tights, and immediately put in on my PTW lol. That's pretty stellar. I can't even imagine being a humble tights-drawing pixiv artist and having a studio tell me they want to produce an anime based off of my art... more attention given to the heavenly appendage that is the female thigh is always welcome, though :D
TsubasaFamily Jun 19, 4:27 PM
Yes, well considering you've given it a 10/10 score, I expect only the highest levels of animation prowess to be on display *sips tea eats biscuit etc*
TsubasaFamily Jun 10, 9:01 PM
HAHA well, I was thinking as soon as I finish Saki I'd start it. Or if I just get in that "need more thighs" kind of mood I might start watching it, it's only 4 min per episode after all. Did you start it already?

Nice! I still have some missions left but I should be done with it soon, too. Wanted to rush it as well as B.B. is cool and the event is so well done, but I couldn't really, I'm pretty much out of apples.
And I had a really nice stack of them until recently as I wasn't playing much or at all for some time, but I got more enthusiastic about the game again after my gf got into it (speaking of which she's been super lucky, not even 2 months and she already got 4 SSR lmao) and well, I used up tons of apples doing free quests raising my servants, got my Tamamo, Gorgon and Lancer Alter to 10/10/10. Next will probably be Kiritsugu, and after I'm done with him and one of my sabers I can go with a full 10/10/10 support list like you xD though it's gonna take a while, no apples to work with :( I wish we were getting more of them.

Well, I kinda spent quartz as they go lately, lol. Got Artoria Lancer like 2 months back (super happy about her, I wanted her soooo much when Camelot was released and was super disappointed I didn't get her) and I had a little bit to roll for Passionlip now but I got Altera instead. Not gonna complain, as I haven't had a SSR or any gold AOE saber before so she will come in handy, even if she's not very strong.
Gratz! Gorgon is cool, I like her a lot, grailed and raised her well, but I don't even use her much. Class advantage is too important :P

I have noticed you're saying NA is best server in your friend message. Why? Just curious, not really following other servers.

And how is CCC going for you? I'm enjoy the event a lot though it is a step harder/more complicated than any event before

I'm enjoying it so far! It turns out the anime did a really honest job of adapting it, the scenes are practically one-to-one. Haven't got past where Season 1 ended yet, which might be a little bit since I'm buying the officially localized volumes. I sure hope there's a season 2 though... I felt like season 1 was waaay underrated on our side of the globe, but it's hard to tell how Japan received it or what the conditions for a season 2 will be. But the manga's ongoing and OreGairu got a season 3 announced, so I think anything's possible xD

I really liked it; enjoyed the whole thing from start to finish. The person who directed it also wrote the scripts for both Anohana and Black★Rock Shooter, both of which I also loved. I think there were a few minor things that were kind of confusing, like why Ariel thinks leaving Maquia will help protect her. But yeah, I think it's a beautiful movie, and it's definitely one of my favorite anime/anime films of all time.

I am doing well thanks i always forget to actually use other functions like chat on MAL lately tbh. This season for me Slime and Kakegurui are really good on their own way. Slime because quality of story telling and characters and kakegurui because it is pure fun /insanity quite unique even amoung its own genre. I would also add SAO which suprised me it is way better then Sao II and most episodes of S1 kirito being more mature and less OP is nice especially. But last couple of eps are bit weaker but Thickness make up for it XD lulz.

Rising Of Shield Hero is my personal fav from new shows , it has great chemistry between main cast, it has Twist on Isekai Genre, quite advanced RPG system (for anime that is) and interesting world and dialogue.

Yessss, I can't wait for Zoku as well :)

Aye haha NNB is one of my favorite slice of life anime. Renge especially is just amazing to me; the way she manages to pull the characters around and shape the story seemingly effortlessly is really endearing and true-to-life in the best of ways. I still have to watch that new movie at some point... idk if it will have the same vibe as the show, but I guess Hotaru in a swimsuit would also be acceptable lol.

Well, this season I'm watching Boogiepop, Circlet Princess, Endro, Kakegurui S2, Kouya no kotobuki, Asuka, Manaria Friends, and Watashi ni Tenshi. Out of those, I would say all are decent and worth trying an episode or two. My tops right now are Kekegurui and Watashi ni Tenshi for pure entertainment value and Kouya no Kotobuki for at least trying to write more organic dialogue than the standard fare these days. Boogiepop is interesting, but feels like it's trying too hard especially compared to the original, and the others are mediocre imo.

I'm not even touching those isekai shows lol. I can already tell they're the "appeal to every fetish" / "consumer product" variety anime with very little artistic value to speak of, which I'm completely uninterested in. No offense to those who like these kinds of shows, of course; I 100% understand the appeal, it's just not for me xP

It was really similar to the source material from what I remember, but it's the kind of situation where one thing works better in novel or manga form than animation. Like with manga, the pacing is way too fast for a direct adaptation to work well... if you just looked at each panel and said, ok guys, here's our screenplay (which plenty of modern anime do, and it's usually pretty obvious) you run into all kinds of pacing problems. Good adaptations (like Monogatari) cut content to make breathing room for the important stuff. You've gotta have time to establish a setting, have a smooth transition into another arc, etc... I remember in Non Non Biyori those beautiful 1-2 minute long segments of just music and nature, it works really well to set the tone and establish that laidback vibe.

So I felt like Angel Beats was maybe TOO much of a direct adaptation and not enough taking liberties with the source to do things that enhance the experience for people watching instead of reading.
TsubasaFamily Jan 26, 11:51 PM
Yah, well it's also nice with shows like Monogatari (or even BiY) when their reputation precedes them a little bit. Because a lot of times people will think it's like a "wait, it gets better! but then it never does" kind of thing when the show starts off a little slow or hard to understand. Well, I guess that's not always the case though... with Angel Beats, everyone kept telling me to keep watching because it gets super feelsy, but it never got sadder or felt any different than the first arc imo so I just never got into it >_> I feel like I should like that show, but I just can't lol.
TsubasaFamily Jan 26, 9:48 PM
Hmm I mean tbh, BiY is the kind of thing I could make a whole video about... I guess if I were to condense what makes it exceptional down to three things, it would be the writing, pacing (screenplay), and attention to little details in the animation and dialogue.

Most anime romance is focused on these big melodramas or crazy scenarios people can't normally relate to. Like Nana with the love-crazy MC, or AnoHana with the whole ghost girl gimmick, or Clannad AS with arcs like the girl who's brother is in a gang (or "that one depressing episode" I won't spoil just in case). These are all great shows in their own right, but the reason I liked BiY so much was because it took a different, more grounded approach and managed to make it REALLY poignant in a way it wouldn't have been if it had been a more dramatic show.

As far as specifically why it's so poignant, well I think there are a lot of reasons... for one, it's a slow show that takes its time, but there is development occurring in every episode. Something new is revealed about a character, a relationship develops, a new tension is established, something is ALWAYS happening, and yet it retains a really earthy, organic feel throughout. The dialogue is delivered in a more laidback fashion compared to most anime, the color palette is soft, toned-down and warm, and the steady pacing really makes it feel like the characters are truly blooming, and makes some of the more emotional moments all the more memorable and endearing.

And then there's the care put into the little details... I really could go on forever about this. For example, episode 7. At the beginning, we learn about Sayaka's past lover and there's a shot of her sitting alone on a bench and moving her hand INWARD towards herself, after her senpai has stopped talking to her for a while. It's a small gesture indicating Sayaka is pulling IN to herself for emotional fortitude. Note that she's sitting on the right side of the bench at this time. Later in the same episode, while she's sitting with Touko, there are 2 or 3 different shots, each only a second long, focusing directly on Sayaka's hands. At first she has them folded in her lap, showing composure and steadfastness in the face of her feelings towards Touko that she must protect. Then, once she learns Touko received a text from Yuu, her composure breaks a bit; her hand moves out TOWARDS Touko. Finally after Touko says "Is it really so strange that I get along with her?", we see in Sayaka's eyes that she realizes she was a fool for trying yet again to explore her feelings, and Sayaka pulls her hand in towards herself just as she did in the beginning of the episode. It's practically an identical shot just on a different bench with Sayaka now on the LEFT side of the bench, indicating her perceived position as being the one in control (which obviously becomes a point of emotional tension as things go on, because Sayaka really isn't in control of her emotions at all).

Shots in question: https://imgur.com/a/x5Kv0pz

As if that wasn't enough, there's ANOTHER duality shot in the same episode of drinking coffee; it's the shot that occurs right before Sayaka suspects the coffee shop owner may be in a lesbian relationship, and it occurs again after Sayaka comes out to the coffee shop owner:

And so many more throughout the series, it's seriously just brimming with wonderful, organic details, I don't have nearly the time to go over everything lol. But I guess that's really the appeal: it's how relatable and down-to-earth it is, how the characters constantly develop, how well-paced the story is to give it the emotional impact that it has, the small details... "you just gotta watch it", that's what you should tell your friend xD
TsubasaFamily Jan 15, 2:14 PM
Sorry, I didn't mean to write that much it just kind of happened lol. I agree, I'm feeling sort of meh about most of them. My favorites so far are Kakegurui, Watashi ni Tenshi, and Boogiepop (even though Boogiepop is kind of a let-down from the original imo)
