A1 Pictures is a company that get a lot of controversy. Some people think it's completely terrible while other's don't. I think it's hit or miss TBH. What about you?

I usually tend not to care about companies (except fucking Pierrot).
I've seen them getting a lot of critique, some of which just feels like straight up hating.

They're no ufotable, for sure.

I like some of their anime (Shinsekai Yori, Grimgar) and some of them I don't (SAO2).

Overall they are a good studio capable of making good anime.

They can be pretty good if they want but most of the time they're just attention-whoring. Can't really blame them though, the more attention you get the more you're paid.

I really don't care about the company which makes anime, except if it's A1-Pictures, Pierrot or Toei. Then I'm kinda careful about the anime. But other than that, everything is fine.
And now A1-Pictures... What should I say? They have some hits and some misses, but they are not too bad to be honest,

A1 "technically" doesn't exist, so it's hard to say. What truly matters is the staff for the specific series, and not the studio as a whole. That being said I think their best work is Shinsekai Yori.

They just hrie random freelancers for their shows so there's no consistency or reasonable expectations to hold based on the studio and more often than not it doesn't feel like the staff they hire cares very much for the stuff they animate either because of that. Their animation is very business-like but tends to lack the passion and attention to detail that studios like Trigger or KyoAni bring to the table. Doesn't help that they pay their animators like shit from what I know.
I probably regret this post by now.

According to MALgraph, it's ranked 86 out of 126 for me. With Studio Perriot being 126. Lmao.

I'll give them a thumbs up though, for animating Asuna's nips in the SAO movie.

Statistically it has taken the place of my highest rated studio if I use weighted scores on MALGraph out of 149 studios. In terms of purely time watched they ranked 5th so I would wager they have a broad appeal of shows that tend to fit my tastes.

i heard the reason for the inconsistent animation quality of theirs is that they do not have enough in-house animators and usually rely more on the available freelance animators as well as outsourcing but that is the case for most studios except for a few like KyoAni and ufotable

I'd say their marketing is stellar. You can almost always find an A-1 shows on the top 10 popular each season.

As for the quality, I have no strong opinion about them.

There isn't particularly any consistency in the staff that creates the anime there, so seeing A1 pictures as the studio doesn't mean a thing. It's actually A1 pictures especially that heavily utilises freelancers.

Basically every good work and every bad work cannot really be seen as a track record for what is to come in the future from A1 pictures. So while you or I may have an opinion on A1 pictures based on our impressions built up from their previous works, none of it is accurate and none of it matters.

Holds true for most other anime studios out there as well, it's pretty much an industry wide practice, with a few notable exceptions.

i can't even called A-1 is an animation studio, they are more like an animation company... they are headed by buch of business man who will haired the one who available with freelance and will do any jobs as long they paid for it... hence why they series has really long range... from famous long run (like fairy tail and space brother) until experimental short nobody remembered (like that short with train and lot of ads)... from as saveas it can (like idols) until really controversial (like saint oniisan)...

if you love consistency, A-1 definitely not for you... but overall, they not always really bad at producing stuff... you can't really blame A-1 model of business, since it's everywhere, tho A-1 really like the pinacle out of it...

BTW WHERE THE FUCK MY YUGAMI-KUN ADAPTATION A-1?

2/10 of my favorites are from that studio, so... I just think that they don't have a signature style, which is always a little bit disappointing? Tho I love their different styles and shouldn't complain about that.

They made Sora no Woto, one of my favorites and an important anime for me and my taste. So in a way I am grateful for it. But as a whole they are just not consistent enough in terms of what type of work they make, in order for me to pass any proper judgement.

I do like their work quite a bit actually. Haven't really seen anything bad by them. I do recognize they don't have a signature style though but how easy is it to get one if you only employ freelancers?

Well, they're actually my lowest rated anime studio (in terms of weighted score) according to MALgraphs. I kinda liked AnoHana, but I really disliked some of their shows (e.g. Eromanga-sensei, Kuroshitsuji). However, while I don't consider them as good as ufotable/Shaft/Madhouse/IG, their overall quality (in terms of animation at least) is above average.

If someone ask me to list my top 10 studious which I think are the best , I think A1 Pictures won't be in that list for me . But if someone ask me to list the studious according to the number of shows that I have watched and liked , then A1 be ranked in my top 3 . That's the studio A1 Pictures is .
The thing is that they don't have a speciality and many of their anime are produced by freelance anime staff . Hence , their genre differ hugely from anime to anime , art style etc. are very different from each other .

Kyoto Animation : Best quality of art / animation , moe anime , school anime , deep thoughtful anime etc.

Madhouse : Psychological anime , dark anime , mature anime etc.

PA Works : Unique and amazing art style , anime targeted for youths and teenagers , wonderful OSTs , slice of life anime etc.

JC Staff : Romantic comedy anime , action romance anime etc.

A1 Pictures : ????????????!

So as you can see , I can easily tell what the speciality of Studious such as KyoAni or P.A. Works , JC Staff or Madhouse . We can easily see the similarity between two different anime produced by KyoAni or PA Works (in terms of art style and all ) but not with A1 Pictures . SAO , Aldnoah Zero , Shinsekai yori , Shigatsu wa kimi no uso , Fairy Tail , erased or anohana are all excellent anime but they don't have much in common and its hard to tell that they are produced by the same studio .

So in short , A1 Pictures is not a good studio or a bad studio , its just that many different types of good anime just happens to share a same name for their studio . Nothing more , nothing less .

Not a fan. As far as I can tell, they never put real effort or a discerning eye into what the produce. They're more concerned about the money than making a good quality anime, so they just crank out everything they can with little to no effort put into it.

If they eve do come out with anything good, it's because they were given some good source material to work with, like when they made Erased or Interviews with Monster Girls.

I prefer a studio that puts more time and genuine love into what they make, like Shaft, KyoAni and Trigger. If they make it, even if it's a flop, at least it would look good flopping

I've only seen 4 anime they've produced:

Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru (rated with 5) Tbh I can't even remember it.
Shinsekai yori (rated with 7) Was good but didn't resonate with me enough to get an 8+ score but production-wise it was excellent.
So Ra No Wo To (rated with 9) In my top 10 love this show to death.

Notable PTW: Your Lie in April, AnoHana

All-in-all I'd say very positive up till now and looking forward to those two in my PTW (a few other lesser known ones are in my PTW besides those two).

They made The iDOLM@STER and Sora no Woto, which are very well drawn/animated with great direction. For animation, I would point at the concert scenes in the former, and for art, I'd mention the detail and attention given to the latter's representation of Cuenca, Spain. Working!! which for at least the second season was ridiculously hilarious, and Saint Young Men which is a treasure trove for situational comedy, I liked as well, but while they're slightly stylized aesthetically, they're not really that memorable in terms of how they look.

Everything else...kind of a mixed bag. They definitely do animation quite well, but when they're not on their A-game, everything tends to look really flat and dulled, where a lot of the animated scenes has its art drop in quality quite noticeably. I suppose if I had a problem with them, it's that they aren't really consistent.

By ratio I would say they're a 70/30... 70% Are great well made shows like Nanatsu no Taizai, Your Lie in April, ERASED etc... 30% Go off track from source material, aren't that well animated or are just bad in general (Black Butler, Fairy Tail, SAO etc)

But they have gotten better in recent years and have been steadily producing good material... I like quite a few of their animes so it's on my like list

I don't get why people hate A1. I mean, I didn't like SAO very much, but the art to me wasn't bad. Bokumachi's art wasn't bad either. Series like Kuroshitsuji and Eromanga both also looked good. I think they seem to have a poor adaptational record for series they adapt from other source material. That's what pisses people off.

They also produce some bad shows from time to time. The abortion known as Occultic Nine with the cowtit monster comes to mind. Bokumachi sucked as an adaptation. SAO wasn't great. The list goes on.
