Main Character Privileges, are they annoying?

Does a MC having too many privileges become annoying?

In some anime that I have seen, the MC (usually a boy) has many privileges that either arent explained or either too unbelievable.
For example:
-MC that every girl falls in love with
-MC that cant lose and gain a new power in every battle
-MC that no one can outsmart

Can anyone give examples of this happening and do you find it annoying?

Yes, because the MC becomes boring and unrealistic, and the MC suffers from very poor character development. It ruins the show, basically.

As long as you can live with it, or rather, maintain your suspension of disbelief, it won't. You'll be always the one drawing the line.

That is a problem with lots of anime now days, it feels hard to relate with the character if they are a portrayed as perfect. We need more characters like my boy shinji :)

Ikr? It's so stupid, I simply don't get how a character can be so unrealistic in a show with demons, angels, monsters and aliens! It's beyond my comprehension.

But on a more serious topic, I don't care so long this is executed well and not just used as a bs excuse for the MC to get his harem or save his friends every time.

hm...for me; NOPE. No Game No Life is a good example. even tho the MCs are so OP but they have always struggled in the game. not just "One Punch!!!" and the enemy die..... Blank(Sora and Shiro) have always stuggled when they fight the enemy. Even tho the MCs are OP but it's not that easy to defeat the enemy.

"MC that every girl falls in love with"
you ain't gonna tell me you are jealous of it ?! LOL XD
i didn't see anything wrong with that, instead i find it so funny XD

"MC that cant lose and gain a new power in every battle" well, if the MC loses , it means the MC die. well, some of the people or most people doesn't like it, but it's okay to me. i'm neutral towards it.

The main problem in anime nowdays is what we call "Hundred Generic".
i just want to know why they so confidently adapt something that has almost the same story, ecchi pattern, character, and action. don't get me wrong. i'm okay with it, but at least i want to see something more interesting than that.

Obligatory "It depends on the execution" answer. Some of these are part and parcel of many genres and settings, so I try to not waste too much effort being annoyed by them. If you go into a harem series and then complain that the guy has an undeserved harem then you're just setting yourself up to fail.
It's an entirely different kind of flying, altogether!

I can't believe they use basic storytelling principles that have been popular and/or common for thousands of years. How dare they.
But on a more serious note, generally the more unrealistic or unbelievable a show is, the more popular it is. If people wanted a constant stream of super realistic characters they wouldn't be looking towards entertainment such as anime, tv, books, etc. to find it.
So that being said, no I don't find it annoying.

No, i don't care. actually i like that kind of thing because i insert myself into the position and experiance the story from the protagonists point of view, so why the fuck would i not like that stuff, especialy since i feel like its happening to me.

But dumping every privilege on him imaginable, make the story even more boring.

A trope which I find even more annoying than those is when every character and their mums start praising the mc for how good and talented he is, especially when he has no particular merits.
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

I only find some of these apsects annoying if they're out of place, make zero sense for how they relate to the character, or if the plot is already bad.

I don't need the character to be like a real life person unless the show is already giving me that real life feeling.
But if you got niggas flying, with powers and shit, then I usually assume they have other priviledges as well lol. I only have criticisms if it's random or doesn't match the character or surroundings.

I think it's annoying, based of what I've seen. Characters that can't be defeated because they're the main character for no utter good reason bothers me. Like that blonde guy in ZnTempest. He's weaker, has limited powers and goes to fight someone more experienced with effectively limitless powers because he's an arrogant prick. Then he manages to survive miraculously because there are like 20 more episodes he has to be in.

But yeah ever since I've avoided anime that I think might be like that like the plague.

What I meant is that it becomes unrealistic in the sense that they are that hard to relate to. I think it is essential that the a sense of reality in terms of human nature must be present in order to properly engage the main character into the audience, hence I said it was BORING . Moreover, that reality may be translated in the form of weaknesses that the MC must be able to overcome. When such weakness is absent, the character tends to be stagnant and poorly developed. Look at Kirito. Since that particular weakness or conflict is absent, two seasons weren't enough to develop his character thoroughly. Thanks for the insight though. :)

Depends on the anime/general setting. I get annoyed when in cliche shounen anime the MCs can always pull victory out of their asses at the last second despite the show wanting us to believe that wasn't always a guaranteed result. But I can't say I'm annoyed when watching something like No Game No Life, where we expect the MCs to win and the fun is in seeing how.
In regards to girls falling in love with the MC, it just depends on if the guy deserves it. The average harem protagonist does not.

MC Privileges do annoy the hell out of me alot. Like when I'm not watching a harem, but the MC has a harem of girls for literally NO reason at all other than looking at them for 1 second.

Then you have the dickheads that get praised by the entire side characters for being the next best thing since sliced bread for literally doing stuff that the side characters could do themselves.

Some shows where the plot armor is ridiculous also gets on my nerves. Where the MC can't die no matter how many times he has been stabbed, shot, decapitated, burned alive, blown into pieces. Some shows it is understandable, but when it happens all the time and it becomes unnecessary than it's just crap writing.

I don't really think this is a privilege, but I will add it in here. When the MC spews a whole bunch of idealistic crap that no one in their right mind would say. Then all the other characters drink the kool-aid on the MC's belief like they have no belief of their own and co-sign all his bullshit. For example, not killing the enemy that will clearly come back to try and kill your friends, family, and others. Everyone will agree with the MC, and then this guy will come back and usually kill a side-character. Like what the hell, does none of these characters have a mind of their own? Must they always dick-ride the MC every minute of his/her existence?

Eh, the worst offender is when they say "because you are cute" and then bam, the girl already likes the guy. Anything else, I'd say I'll tolerate.

Anyways it is like that because most mcs also serve as wish fulfilment so it won't probably leave.

There needs to be a limit....else you end up with a Mary Sue.

And Mary Sues suck.

When such weakness is absent, the character tends to be stagnant and poorly developed. Look at Kirito. Since that particular weakness or conflict is absent, two seasons weren't enough to develop his character thoroughly.

Kirito absolutely has weaknesses. People who insist he doesn't must not have paid much attention.

People don't notice it because they think with their dicks, but a lot of main characters are actually too good for the girls that fall in love with them. I see a lot of people claim your average MC is "lucky" to have one or more girls fall for him, and that he doesn't deserve it/they're too good for him. Perhaps sometimes, but you have to take it on a case by case basis. When you think about some anime in a real life context, the male MC would actually be a "better catch" than one or more of the females. Some common romance male MC traits:

Relatively handsome
Kind, honorable, helps those in need
Good cook and homemaker (becoming more common to see this in male characters than female ones, perhaps to not stereotype women as "homemaker wife". I think it's a good thing personally, I welcome even more male MCs with waifu skillz)
Extremely high tolerance for bullshit (especially in anime with tsundere heroines)
Sometimes intelligent and/or strong
Sometimes quick witted with a good sense of humor (I liked based tsukkomi ones the most)

People may not notice any of this, because they're too busy whacking it to one of the pretty grils. But when you think about it rationally, some of them would be a catch irl. Can't say the same about all female romantic interests. Some sure, but some others would definitely be worth staying away from...

As for OP protagonists, it depends on execution and context for me. Also I always prefer smart/tactician MC's to very strong ones. I'm more likely to forgive an MC being smarter than everyone than being stronger then everyone. Even if someone is the smartest guy around, if there are people much stronger than him then there's still opportunity for dramatic tension. Also if I have to see an OP MC in terms of strength, I would prefer a girl. I think an OP girl is more interesting than an OP guy, been done less. Strong girl + smart guy is a cool combination I don't see enough.
