You should see if you can find Aria the Avvenire, it streams on certain sites. Also, I have seen a walkthrough video of a video game based on Avvenire on YouTube, but it was in Japanese, though it did look interesting. PS...No Sappy Lines Allowed!

You know, if I was using your scale both Aria the Animation and Aria the Natural would be getting about a 6.8 from me so please don't get the idea I disliked the seasons. I just didn't enjoy them as much as K-On. NNB was a bit better but it had it's slow periods as well so maybe would get about a 7.2 on your scale.

A 5 on my scale is neither like nor dislike. It's also a place where I put shows I have trouble clicking next episode for (i.e. pacing-wise and story-wise it was a bit boring even if I liked the characters or music or art).

The difference between our scales is I think there is too much of a difference between your 7 and 8 and if I had to describe my scoring using your descriptions it would look something like this:

10 - Perfect
9 - Near perfect (little to no complaints)
8 - Very good (enjoyed this greatly in general)
7 - Good (new description)
6 - Somewhat good
5 - Passes (not really enjoyed, it failed keep me yearning for the next episode)
4 - Not good
3 - Bad
2 - Terrible
1 - Not watched and not planning on watching it either. Special score to help me organize

Hmmmm.... This one feels weird somehow. I can't help but sort of think that this illustration is pretty Aria-unlike... While it's not bad or anything, it's just... not point on.
This image also has more of an air of coming from a glittering dream filter over a real scene. (Like, some lovey dovey guy looking at her with cloud 7 glasses over his eyes or so.) What I like most about Aria is all this mono no aware sceneray porn. Basically real landscapes, just merely put looked at with some sort of... slow motion? of little movements and where all the special atmophere can come from something as real is just a sunset and not only emotional distortion of the "viewer".
Or alternatively some dreamish episodes which are just 100% dreamish.
... And I guess, most importantly this image lacks some sort of wind or at least a little breeze. Leaving the somewhat unreal doves out, it's just so static. Almost any artwork of Amano looks like a sort of natural screenshot in the middle of some sort of movement (be it ever a slight as fluttering hair), even if the image them looks like a posing for a fotograph. This one sort of looks artificially posed. The water has no ripples, almost as if Akari sat down, waited for the water stop moving, made her hair sit all tidy and then they made some fotoshooting of sorts.

(+ Young Akari just has this baby-face-ish more round head. Adult Akari looks much cooler already just because she doesn't have that round face anymore. =P)

So basically, in that case, you are lost for good? =X

Well, ok, she doesn't have too many curves, but the whole illustration has a really nice atmophere to it and she also has this mature air around her. I wonder if it's featured in some artbook or so. Didn't find any scan of it either. =/
No your link doesn't work, but google does. There was some Anime artbook, which also had her as an adult, as it was official promotional material, it was nicer drawn.
Have watched one of the avenire episodes, probably the original one, as it had adult Akari inside. (Yet another series I started at the end...) The Manga didn't have much of adul Akari at all. Mean. =X

Hmm, so that sounds a bit like it was useless for Da Vinci to have invented the car break in his days, when science wasn't ready yet to create cars.
I suppose, there is some point in it.

Ah no, baseline is not one thing, it's a set of things. And well, yes, I guess, it is to some part empirical, so it remains an approximation.

But still, good potions on my idea can also boiled down into you "obey the rules" as baseline. With all the examples you give, it's clear, because the rules are cleary defined (like laws and you have to pay for stuff.) But what about phenomena when people act like as if there was an rule, but the rule is in fact never really clearly set for you to easily look up? (And actually nobody can even properly tell when you ask.) How do you reverse engineer these cases backwards to find out the rules? (That's where I usually start with it.)

Monkey colour, baseline could more reasonably be: no neon colours, not transparent

On a diffrent random note:

Beautiful illustration. (Akari really georgeous as an adult, too bad the series stops when she gets to look like this.) Somehow it feels pretty wasted as a cover to some random anthology. Sometimes I just wish Amano would finish up Amanchu already and make Aria Avenire into a regular series or so.

It's a variant of building castles in the air. The German of the idiom is literally "to try reaching out to the stars". Don't know, what it's un Dutch, but I thing the image is a pretty direct metaphor.

Sounds somewhat like the basic dispute of why bother doing scientific research on space exploration when you could use all the money on fighting poverty in the world. So basically, you'd rather focus on things in immediatate reach and keep the scope small.
shina_luna May 25, 2016 2:53 PM
So basically, your stance is even one step below "Don't try to grab castles in the air" at "Don't even bother looking at castles in the air"?

That's quite a pessimistic onlook, that things are already over and nothing can be amended into something better...
shina_luna May 25, 2016 1:53 PM
What about those, who don't?

Just because something seems impossible, there is no reason to not try reagardless. Planes and other things got invented that way after all.

It's not about understanding each other, but understanding, we are all humans not not so very diffrent. At least less than human vs. alien monster.
shina_luna May 25, 2016 1:33 PM
How is that suppose to work out? There is no real standard to that out there either.

Well, I guess, such a evolution or invention won't happen in my lifetime, true.

... Not sure, what exactly you mean...
shina_luna May 25, 2016 9:32 AM
It's not, that I would not think, that there are notions worth than a human life. Most history book examples are like that and they left a change.
But an ideal is hard to put into a monetary value. Or all that abstract stuff like love and friendship.

To our whole discourse.

"In reality, it currently doesn't work."
Leaves open the prospect at some time in the future it may. Made me then think of the theme, that's often used in ficton an philosophy about people evolving onto a new stage and where they can grasp more at once than we do know.

No, the abstact level baseline would more like "killing off something cute is so unforgivable".
Their own country's baseline is designating a definition to what is cute, give it some value and give what they don't not value, so that they can kill it.
If they would think out of the box, they might take into consideration, that to others, what they thing is cute may not and what they think is worthless may have worth and when they do, you would stop just condeming the other side. If they imagine replacing what they deem as worthless with what they thing is cute and imaging the hurt they would get, then there would be understanding and the other countries folk's aren't just awful monsters anymore. Or more like, if they would just realized, that the other country has a diffrent baseline, but which is actually derived from the same base as their own, there would be a sort of kinship there and not just hostility against something alien.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
