My heart...ahh..

Wasn't expecting much, but Clannad was a very, very, pleasant surprise. If people consider After Story sooo much better it must be a freaking masterpiece, since I liked Clannad a ton.

Oh no, Nagisa watched more of her dad's videos. So much pain and sadness. (T_T)
But then Akio appeared and saved the day! (^_^) I got goosebumps when he appeared!

The play was wonderful, but what's even more awesome is that Tomoya finally manned up and asked Nagisa out!
The ship is officially sailing with Tomoya being the captain!
This was a beautiful ending! I love it!
I’m always searching for something, for someone. This feeling has possessed me I think, from that day… That day when the stars came falling.

Amazing episode!!! When Tomoya asked Nagisa out at the end I was literally tearing up like Nagisa omg it finally happened!!!

When Akio came to save the day during the play that was so touching and incredible moment. And the play was a success!

Fantastic anime, absolutely one of the best I've seen. (Excited to watch the extra episode, movie, OVAs, and second season) <3

I was totally thinking I wasn't going to cry, felt totally alright about it. Was sad that she was clamming up on stage but wasn't at cry-level.

And it changed literally the instant the old man slammed his fist on the wall and yelled yer name. Instant tears. What a good moment.

Really love this anime.

I got teary eyed during Nagisa's play recalling the significance of the girl and the junk robot in the illusionary world. Then I got teary eyed again during Tomoya's (very brief) interaction with his father.

Kotomi arc is best arc though and by a considerable margin.

It's amusing to read the posts prior to the release of After Story. This final episode gripped my heart with all its might and went to town with a wild range of heartbreak, inspiration, and beauty. Keeping this at a well deserved 9/10, looking forward to the rewatch of my 2nd favorite anime.

This was one of the best anime episodes I've seen so far. Wow, it was so beautiful and thrilling to watch, I couldn't wait the climax; both sad and emotional parts were the best. The confession of Tomoya and the stunning animation (time flashes) rounded up everything. Can't describe it better.

Though I didn't cry ^^, it went deep in the heart, I tell ya. Truly sensational.

This episode was great!!!!

The lesson we get is that sometimes parents have to sacrifice a lot for their children. Akio and Sanae have to do the same for Nagisa. And I feel so bad for Akio. He was such a good actor! And he was so enthusiastic to be a great actor.

Thank God! Nagisa did her play finely.

Now can't wait for After Story!!!! But before that one more episode is left.Wow! xD

As a whole I give 8/10 for this season!

*gags* Ugh. I think I threw up in my mouth a little.

I knew it was coming, but seriously, ugh. They went for the dullest girl. There's literally nothing notable about her. Even Ryou is more interesting than Nagisa, though only just barely.

Still giving it an 8/10. It petered out after the Toyomo arc was over leading to this obvious conclusion. I would easily have given it a 9/10 had the final arc been different. It wouldn't even have to involve my favorite girl, but they could have gotten creative like have Okazaki or his dad get hit by a car or something. Maybe something like that will happen in After Story, but these anime are rated on a season by season basis.

Anyways, I really loved the series overall and I'm looking forward to the alternate endings. I'll get the VN when I can.

And.. it's over. The first half of it, that is. It was great episode, in fact only one of two such episodes that were really moving in this series (the other being Fuko's sister wedding even though her route could have been 2 episodes shorter in favor of other girls).

What's left now is one extra and one alternative route episode.

Still, the series had a lot to be deserved, especially in comparison with feels and visual novel. We got only three routes animated while characters like Kyou, Ryou or Yukine were horribly undeveloped. Tomoyo's best route was only scratched and Misae was also completely left out. The same applies to Kappei or Sunohara.

Well, maybe they saved something for the second series, I'm hoping for that. I understand 22 episodes is not enough to tell all 10 routes. If I have to judge, it was good slice of life series but the game is obviously way better.

7/10 Nice build up for second season and slice of life I honestly recommend although it's very mundane and plain at times. This really can't stand by its own as you only got half of the story without the sequel.

The last few episodes shot the anime up from being a 7/10 to a 8/10. This was the first time in Clannad that I cried and almost to the extent with Madoka Magica and Toradora.

I couldn't resist crying, Akio's character is simply amazing, refusing to continue with his dream to take care of her daughter, that speech to motivate Nagisa was incredible.

That confession! Tomoya my man.

Amazing episode, I'm speechless.

I liked the confessional ending. What bothered me was the play. It wasn't as sad as Nagisa sort of made it out to be. I thought it was rushed a bit too (even though there were hints of it throughout the series, I thought there would be more to it..)
I give this season an 8. I stayed this long because I want to watch After Story and also, I like slice of life anime. I think the girls are so cute, I actually do love all of them >//<

I wasn't too fond of the overly dramatic parts... but that ending had me tearing up. Overall Clannad is less bad than I thought, once you give it a chance and try to get invested in the characters.

WTF Nagisa, what a crybaby. Who could possibly want to go out with her? What an annoying character, tbh.

Also, I've heard a lot of people say how great and sad Clannad is and yet there wasn't a single episode that brought me even close to crying. No emotions at all. And that's not a good sign for a series because I'm someone who usually is very empathic and starts crying pretty easily when watching series or reading books. Yet there was nothing. I guess I expected too much.

Good ending, I love this kind of anime where the boy helps the girls in need. This is one of the anime that I'd love to have 50+ episodes, it relaxes me.

I loved both the Fuko arc and Ichinose arc, but the second half of Clannad just felt very rushed and while the 2 arcs I mentioned were sad, it didn't move me enough to actually cry.

Also I feel like Tomoyo, Kyou, and Ryou could've gotten more screen time.

And so the first season ends... or considering there is still one episode left, the first part of the main storyline at least.

Quite mediocre finale if I'm honest. Akio's entrance was so over dramatic it felt more awkward rather than emotional. Not to mention that he could also have easily said those same words to his daughter at home instead of waiting until the last moment to make a scene in front of all the school. Never liked this kind of melodramatic displays to "move" the audience and Clannad was no exception.

Tomoya's confession at the end also lacked impact for some reason. Maybe because it felt really rushed considering that he went from realizing he cares a lot for Nagisa to fully confess his feelings for her in matter of just a few eps. without some proper development. Unfortunately, it felt more sudden than anything else.

Overall, this whole first season was highly uninteresting. Now let's see if the supposed last episode will give more context to some aspect that was left unresolved or it will just be your typical fanservice Special.

I feel like such a shithead for laughing at this episode, but that scene during the play was way too funny for me not to laugh. I haven't been as uncomfortably euphoric like that in a long a time. Out of all the arcs, Nagisa's is probably the worst for how terribly it was resolved, and that's saying a lot.

As for my overall thoughts, it's alright. I wasn't brought to tears the same way other people were, but that isn't really a measure of worth to begin with. Where this show really falls apart, however, is in it's narrative and characters. There's an extreme disconnect between the tragic backstories the characters share and the way they go about conducting themselves. You'd think Tomoya would be a lot more jaded with his history of abuse and delinquency, but he's surprisingly the level head of the story.

On that topic, I'm surprised by how much I warmed to Tomoya. Shows similar to this one either depict the male protagonist as a wimpy twat or a perverted fuckboy. Tomoya seems to strike a nice balance between the two. I guess the cost of a good protagonist comes at the expense of having a braindead supporting cast.

The storytelling also isn't particularly well done or nuanced, which I would argue is vital to a series which is centered around the development of its characters. I know arcs are a staple of anime, but I can't say I'm fond of how linear and unimpactful they are, which is why it's especially silly for that format to be applied to the development of it's characters. Relationships don't present themselves in arcs. I imagine Clannad would be more memorable (and less drawn out) if it attempted to tackle the stories concurrently rather than cycling through the slice of life antics -> conflict -> resolution formula.

Even though I've been dogging everything about this show, I still consider it to be a 5/10. Maybe I've just been weakened by Clannad's tendency to assume the best of humanity, but I can't really bring myself to go lower. What I do know, however, is that the undisputed best part was the music since it was used in Nyan Neko Sugar Girls.

Perfectly put! That scene hit me hard back in the day, but now present and older me after six years since I last saw it, his talk of parental responsibility and action makes me look back at my life and also think of the importance of role of the parents. I look forward to supporting a kid's dream some day!

Yeah, Akio did say meaningful words, but it just felt like the method they used to make it "more emotional" was just too overused.

And that damn confession turned out to be so stiff.

I don't know what to say. This show is finally over, unless you count the extra chapter, ep 23. The confession happened, and it was very flat, especially after that forced drama since ep 20 happened. Overall, the show didn't entertain me that much, a little too on the dramatic side, but I do say that the art and animation were the best aspects of the show. Ep Score - 5/10; Series Score - 5/10

Is it bad I thought the whole auditorium thing was cheesy? I feel like Nagisa overreacted. Well, seems like Nagisa and Tomoya are now dating. Who expected that? /s

I do like their ship as it feels the most natural with the way the show progressed.
