Been reading your comments if you ask me , I would argue that beserk has gotten better with the conviction arc and the millennium arc, characters in those arcs were better than the ones present in golden age and guts character arc peaked during those two arcs, as for the casca stuff being unsettling I'm not sure what he means by that, but controversial opinion liked her treatment during those arcs as it really brought out her fragility under that guise of strength and put friction in their relationship.

I don't think so, I like all the new characters and the development for Guts' character. Been a while since I last read it, but I think the tone was overall darker in earlier arcs, that is one thing I miss about it.

It never quite captured the magic of the Golden Age arc afterwards, but I think it felt like it had some momentum after Guts and the others gained mythical weapons and Casca had her child-thing. I think Casca’s treatment is unsettling and not in a good way; the story can’t seem to find much to do with her. For the time being, the manga is moving so slowly I’ve not been focussed on it for years, I’m afraid.
