Do keep in mind that Fate/Zero was created after Fate/stay night, so if there is anything confusing to you then you can ask me and I can try to explain. I feel I have a decent amount of knowledge on the series.
I've heard people both say that they watched Fate/Zero alone fine and some that said a few details confused them, so feel free to message me if you need to

If you just want watch the series casually, I would recommend watching Fate/Zero (which most people think is both gorgeous and well written) and if you like it then watch Fate/stay night (2014) once it starts in fall.
If you want to actually get into the Fate/ franchise or want to know everything comprehensively and have plenty of time on your hands, then get the Fate/stay night visual novel and read it first as it was the original. Then, go enjoy the Fate/Zero anime in all its glory
edit: and yes, I highly suggest it. Fate/ is one of my favorite series, and the F/sn visual novel is well written and worth the read in the long run
edit2: and also, when I mean plenty of time on your hands I mean expect 50~75+ hours of reading time for the F/sn VN

However, fortunately for us ufotable is remaking Fate/stay night in fall of this year and Rin will definitely be in there (although the route is currently unknown)
