The original anime has a very special place in my heart, so I was apprehensive going into this.

I think I'm feeling at ease now. I like the art, I like the actors. There are some things missing, the lovely silliness has been toned down, I liked more feminine Yuki, the music doesn't have the quirkiness from before. But, I think Furuba is in good hands.

Now, excuse me while I go and ugly cry for half an hour (and so begins this weekly routine...).

I have had this anime on my radar for while. I couldn't watch the original version because of the art style. Too old looking for my tastes. Just finished this episode today, and very much enjoyed it. It may be hard to stay bling though considering how many people love the original version.

I was also very surprised at how well I was doing at guessing how the episode was going to play out. Everything I predicted as I went along became true. Then again, that's likely because I've seen too much anime.

I really loved this episode and how everything played out. I hope this is as long as the original, because this may become a new favorite of mine. I cant wait to see more of the "rat" and "cats" relationship as well as the other characters.

I Find the first episode fascinating and and quite moving
as we march toward a mysterious future with unknown possibilities.
well, that's may explain my enthusiasm in regard of the series.
on that topic, how long a new episode is release?
thanks :P

I have tried to get into the original Fruits Basket before but I couldn't really. This though, was effortless. Tohru is precious and the ED song is great. I am in.

YAY IT'S FINALLY HERE~~!
Yuuki is more 'hotter' here
In the old version he was 'prettier'

The ed really seems to ship Yuuki and Tohru...

I'm really glad they're sticking to the manga >_<
This is gonna be refreshing as I've nearly forgotten a lot of details from the old version/manga

I found I didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would (even though I did enjoy a lot of it). I hope it's because of the fact that this is the beginning the story and I remember what happens.

I think I'll still need a little longer before I'm used to the new art style and the digital animation.

But the first episode seemed so faithful the old series that I had the same joy watching every moment.

Not ready to give it a perfect score, but its definitely up there.

I just rewatched this in dub and oh, oh, I'm not sure.

The dub is more nostalgic for me, since I watched the dub back when I first saw this series twelve years ago or so. I was really happy to hear that they kept the original English voice cast nearly completely intact for this remake, but... I can really hear the change in the VA's voices, especially Yuki's, he just sounds too old now. I'm sure it's not the first time a 16-year-old boy has been voiced by a 44-year-old man but it doesn't sound comfortable to me anymore. So that's sad.

Any reasons why they didn't use the old voice actors? Trying to get some new blood? Or are the old ones too expensive? Considering that Yui Horie and Tomokazu Seki has since become among the most famous anime VAs of all time now, with Horie becoming even more prolific than the "queen of seiryuu" Megumi Hayashibara.

Regardless, as much as I love the old VA and as much as Tomokazu Seki is my favorite VA of all time, I don't have any issues with the new VA at all. Since they're rebooting it rather than continuing it where it left off, having a completely new cast works fine.

Anyways, horay for 1 of only 3-4 shoujo series that I actually like and one of my favorite manga in general.

Faithful, yes, in terms of what actually develops. They're not gonna make her end up with Yuki instead, or anything like that. However, if you want panel for panel faithfulness AND for it to reach the end, than that is not gonna happen. The 1st anime was pretty faithful but despite being 26 episodes, it didn't even get close to halfway through the manga.

Basically, either a lot of gonna get cut out or this is gonna end halfway. The chances that this will be 50+ episodes or something is slim to none, such anime outside of action-shonen don't exist anymore.

Seemingly the manga's author wanted a completely new team to do this adaptation, no-one from the previous, actors included. She must have been unhappy with a lot of things.

I picked up the older version of Fruits Basket about a year ago and it took me a long time to complete it mainly because I found it to be pretty bland/uninteresting. The remake looks visually more appealing, I hope it turns out to be a bit more interesting.

Based on other comments, looks like I'm the only one here who doesn't like Kyo, he isn't as bad as Wolfram but still a pretty typical tsundere, not exactly likable in my books. Too bad I already got spoiled by the ending in the comments section on its PV :(

Well, the thing is Funimation got the same voice actors from the 2001 version for the 4 main characters so not much of a "new cast" for the English version anyway

Decent first episode, but tbh reverse harem is not much of my thing, and I think you would find hard to find a male saying they love reverse harems, so I will thread with care for now, but first episode seems good so far.

Well, yeah, the idea is to fully adapt the manga. I'm hearing this first season will be something like 24-26 episodes and I guess the plan is to have more seasons down the line to adapt the rest. The story should definitely not be anywhere close to finished after this season though.

Eh, I don't want to even possibly touch on spoilers so I'll just say that I never got the impression that only women are into Fruits Basket.

Very cute and funny anime so far! The art and visuals seem to be on point too. I like it. I liked the parts were they show Tooru’s history and backstory. Her friends seem to be an interesting lot aswell. Looking forward to see more of them. The end has a sudden odd twist. Didn’t rly see that coming...

At first, it seemed to me that the new version was rather soulless compared to a more “lively” first adaptation, but it turned out that the first episode just needs time to be overclocked. I didn’t read the original manga, so I can’t say anything about it, but I am also pleased to see that the new adaptation retains some of the director's findings from the first anime.

I can complain about a some "flat" character designs, which is why some moments look like a cutscene from the otome game, but overall, the first 1-2 episodes leave a rather positive impression. I am glad that the basket continues to be one of the perfect shoujo anime for me.

This remake/reboot is ok, not bad but not great either. The character designs look better than in the old anime (although Yuki is supposed to be pretty and not handsome and I don't like how Tooru has no eyelashes when her eyes are opened), but the comedy and soundtrack were much better in the old anime.

Also, about the ending... why is there no sleeping Kagura and Ayame? They are shown as animals though and walking by Yuki's window when he was little. Also, I don't like how they showed that cap,
And since the ending kinda ships Yuki and Tooru, the next ending better ship Kyou and Tooru, or else it won't be fair, since it's

The overall excellence of this reboot is making me secretly hype about the Skip Beat! anime remake that I pray will be announced one day, after the manga is completed... Hopefully, while I'm still alive lol.

But Fruits Basket (2001) will always have a special place in my heart. I loved that derpy, slap-stick charm.

Is it a big spoiler in the ED? I think it can still be said to be ambiguous, since it's just showing an image of the hat falling to the ground. And even if new viewers assumed from the ED that
that's actually going to be obvious pretty early on in the story anyway
and they still wouldn't know a ton more information and surrounding context

This story has so many layers to it I'm not too worried about little hints like that majorly spoiling anything or giving away the big picture.

Yes, I think it's a spoiler in the ending because
If you think differently, let's agree to disagree. Of course, all that information you mentioned will get explained later but I don't like spoilers, even tiny ones, that's why I complained. Sorry if I offended you.

So I read, I honestly feel like the manga is superior. I don't hate the anime, even if it lacking compared to the manga, but I think that if she ever gets the chance to do what Takaya did with helping the production of the new Furuba anime if Kare Kano gets a reboot, she should.

this is so cute and heartwarming, i think that most people who already know the story went in with a smile on their faces anyway.
i absolutely love the new character designs, the old models are good for the time they were drawn, this looks stunning like shoujo would be.
the only thing i miss - and i do understand it's not gonna be the same - is the soundtrack. okazaki ritsuko write such a beautiful soundtrack for the original series it's gonna be hard to top that here.
but that's more of something i miss than an actual complaint. i really enjoyed this.

First time watcher here and, I’ve to admit, this was quite the interesting start!

We’ve got a fair share of lighthearted humour, sad backstory and interesting Character introductions early up and it’s quite compelling, to say the least! Yuki’s fangirl club members and Shigure later on during the morning scene sliding in gave it a very visual novel-like feeling to add on to the experience, I suppose. What a cliffhanger though, I saw it coming after seeing the cat transform but the execution of it was still pretty darn good (loved the different ‘oh’s from our main character xD).

There’s definitely a lot going on and I’m looking forward to seeing more! Hoping this season gets the 26 episodes as rumoured too!
