I absolutely loved this show! Violet's emotional journey really captivated me and episode 10 was a masterpiece. I only wish, after all the crying she did, that we got to see Violet laugh at least once. That would've been wonderful. Still, this show gets a 10/10 for me. This episode and the last one seemed a little rushed, but I don't mind. I can't wait to watch this again.

After the long days Violet has been out, and after literally saving years worth of work and tons of money by using great efforts, she's finally back and reunited with her co-workers out to see a beautiful flight fair day.

It's even better afterwards that Diethard finally accepts the new Violet and stopped seeing her as a tool, in the end, Violet meeting with his and Major Gilbert's mom was emotional but now Violet can be sure that Major Gilbert's death is not her fault.

The letter he wrote to Major Gilbert is emotional but calming somehow. Violet finally understands what Major Gilbert meant by "I love you". Thus, the emotionless tool became a human capable of emotions.

I have been wanting to watch Violet Evergarden since it was airing early this year, but I hold it off, which is why I didn't get into the hype train. I got a rather beautiful feel trip watching this show. The character of Violet and her journey to learn what "I love you" meant from her emotionless state was wonderful! Her character personality and her character development were well crafted, and I love the character, Violet! However, this show fell in terms of creating a perfect story, it doesn't feel very engaging. Does this have to do something with the changed story from the LN as some users have claimed? Nevertheless, it's a been a nice short journey!

Lol... Violet turns out to be one of my friend's waifu... I'm excited about the discussion we're about to have regarding this character and the magnificent development she has!

After watching this for the second time I came to a conclution... Hodgins should be a doll, what a beautiful letter.
I like to post in manga forum when I feel it is worth it, so people will think. "Shit, is her again" or something.

People asked me where I read certain thing but the rules say no telling where did you read so maybe I am too boring for not saying? Or salty because you didn't check my profile that says don't ask because I hate people to ghost me after that. I love learning languages so maybe I did not read the manga in English.

Good anime, the premise of the series was definitely out of the ordinary. Violet was an interesting lead character as she learned what her emotions were and how to deal with them.

Such an amazing show! So emotionally touching. I cried every single episode. I stupidly went through the first few episodes convinced that Violet was a robot, thinking "when are the side characters going to address the elephant in the room? Such a sisyphean task, they're trying to educate a robot on feelings!"

I think the premise of having a 10-year old (or however old she was) being made into a feared weapon was the show's single greatest flaw. Sadly, there was a lot of breaking the suspension of disbelief. Perhaps it would have been better if it was about an actual robot trying to learn human emotions. Still, this is probably one of the best shows I have ever seen, non-anime included.

All in all, this was just so fantastic! I wish I could unsee and resee this...

As a person to whom writing physical letters had been and still is an activity, I could really feel the emotion that was drawn onto these characters while writing and getting that only touch of the bottom of the human's feelings. Just as we are braver on the internet fields when given the anonimity, similar law applies to writing letters over distance.
There's no much need to be a crybaby over this, but it's still a bit grieving that in her universe letters and typesetters will also cease to be ubiquitous, not in her lifetime, perhaps. Not completely sure that these shows exactly portray the way of living of ~WW1 era, but it touches me so gently to see this way of living, make westworld real please.

Episode 10 made me raise the score to 8 but the end of episode of 12 made me teary-eyed too so that lets it stay there. Strong character development for Violet. Personally I found like it could use some less reminder of Shousa but then again he was really precious to Violet n I guess partly he grew on me so there's that. Good series over-all, had some particularly strong episodes.

The animation is top notch, some episodes are great, others are over dramatic... Violet's character growth was too sudden between I don't remember which episode and the one where she writes letters for royalty... Music is ok. To be honest, I think I could have dropped if not for the animation quality... Watching Violet was mesmerizing!

Overall a good anime. 8/10

haven't see such an amazing show in a while. I don't know why there is so much hate for this beautiful masterpiece and the only reason it bothers me that it might push away some people from it. It started slowly for sure, but it was a very magical ride. 2018 had many good shows, but this one stall it for me.

Wholesome ending. I really am glad this series took this route to conclude its plot, it was all emotion packed from start to finish, and seeing an end that's this happy raises the spirit a bit and helps with the sad nature of the show.
I've always partly liked the captain, but not I love him, that priceless after credits scene needs to be elaborated more upon, like what made Violet flinch for a bit? I really hope that's what the OVA episode is all about.

So violet evergarden...it was a wonderful anime with lots of emotional breakdown... Though this anime doesn't have a main plot but each and every episode here has a charm of its own... each episode says a different story...and the character development for the mc Violet is really well done...also the visual and sound are magnificent...we can say that this anime was an adventure of a non empathic girl who doesn't understand the meaning of love and then she begins her journey to figure it out while living in the most saddest moments of her life...I rate it 9/10...and it's a must watch show!!!

Damn, didn't expect this show to consistently have amazing episode after amazing episode over and over again. I really loved Violet's character and the little interactions she had with everyone else. Not a complex story, but all of it was effective and emotional. I don't even have to mention the visuals, but I will say the music and sound design were just as powerful as the visuals to set the mood. Very well done.

I guess the only thing I can say I didn't love was whenever the main plot of the show got focus, it was kind of jarring because the show felt way different than the little slice of life stories we were getting for the longest time. Not bad though, and at least all of them still served to further Violet's development.

I'll probably give it an 8.5/10. Damn show made me cry more than once.

Overall an enjoyable series, a few episodes missed the mark though. I enjoyed violets progression through the series, the art work and music was amazing. I did find it a bit odd that the one off characters seemed to be more interesting than the support characters though.

I liked this series overall. I felt the progression of Violet was well done and not rushed. I felt when it had more of a mushishi approach to the episodes with individual stories that (may or may not have a happy ending) it was at its best. The last 2 episodes probably 3 weren't that great to me. The whole drama with the war and the fight scenes didn't really do much for me.

7/10.

This is easily one of the best anime shows I've seen in recent times. I was laughing and tearing up every episode. It was such a nice emotional roller coaster for me.

I am glad at how the anime ended but I am not glad that they are planning to add another season. I have a feeling it will be a disappointment, but at the same time I guess I am glad I'll be able to see more of Violet. She is such a waifu. <3

One of the better KyoAni shows to come out of recent years. It started off pretty slow imo, but eventually it picked up the pace around ep4. I really enjoyed this show, I think there were a couple episodes that did let the show down however, but overall a solid emotional story with great characters and animation. The soundtrack was excellent too, a few reoccuring tracks I enjoyed listening to every time they came on. Also, probably the best animated series I've seen in a LONG time. Absolutely stunning. 8/10.

Violet Evergarden is far from perfect. I have my own problems with it but it was still an enjoyable journey in the end. The problem with this show is that it was way too overhyped even before it aired that it set the bar too high making the fall even harder. I also blame KyoAni for this because they were the ones who started the hype train in the first place giving the Violet Evergarden LN their most prestigious award or something and hyping up the show as the greatest one to come out of the studio yet. Well, it wasn't in the end but that doesn't mean it's a terrible show either. It just didn't live up to the standard they set.

With the way I phrased this, it makes it look like I hate the show but I don't really. It was great seeing Violet's journey to self-worth. She had a rocky start due to her upbringing but as she went on with life and meeting different people and touching their lives, she has fully grasped her emotions and what it means to be a human. It was truly amazing seeing her growth as a character. I genuinely enjoyed some of the short stories. Luculia and his brother and Iris and her parents' stories were nice. Leon, Oscar and his daughter, and Anne and her mother were great. Episode 10 and 7 especially were beautifully-made. The visuals and animation are top-tier. KyoAni really poured their heart and soul into making this anime as beautiful as possible.

Like I said, this show isn't perfect. Having an episodic format, we're bound to run into some uninteresting stories. Episode 5 and 11 left a bitter taste in my mouth. I also find some aspects in the premise flawed. I didn't like how the show makes it look like Auto Memoir Dolls are some kind of goddesses of words or something. They literally ask for Dolls to type for kingdoms' love letters for each other. In this episode alone, I find it ridiculous that they needed Cattleya to type some peace treaty for them. Are there no educated people in this universe at all?

Apart from Iris, none of the side characters had some form of development but I don't consider it a flaw at all because the story is centered around Violet's growth. The side characters are just there to help her along the way and set up the premise for the show. Not a valid flaw in my opinion.

The pacing in this show is also awkward. We had some interesting development in episode 5 when Dietfried showed up mocking Violet's decision to become a Doll and then the next episode, we move on to another story. Don't get me wrong, episode 6 was great and all but it should have been placed elsewhere. The interesting turn of events was completely disrupted and we never got anything from Dietfried again until episode 11.

Speaking of Dietfried, he was one of the worst things in this show. For such a major character, he was extremely underdeveloped. He acted like a dick all this time to Violet and blames her for Gilbert's death even though he was always been a cunt to Violet even before his brother died. We never got a proper history from him and Violet and why he hates her so much. He has acted like a dick even towards his own brother every time he appears in the show so making him some kind of a sympathetic character in the end is just a tad too late.

It's also a shame that we never got to see more of Violet's history before entering the military. She was just this clueless yet excellent fighter that Dietfried found somewhere. It would have been great to know how she became that way.

KyoAni is infamous for diverting from the source material and making their own stories from its premise. After reading some spoilers from the LN, it looks like Gilbert did love Violet romantically and I must say, this is one of those times when I'm glad the studio took some control over the anime and removed all the romantic tension because I absolutely despise the idea of Gilbert harboring some romantic feelings for Violet.

Anyway, that's a lot of text and it made it look like I didn't like the show at all but it's actually the opposite. I like the show despite its flaws. Even though it feels already complete at this point, there's still 2 movies coming up so I wonder what is it even about. I'm still looking forward to it though.

I'm giving this show a 5/10

Violet Evergarden, was one of those animes that made me cry in more than one episode. Its beautiful animation, soundtrack and the evolution of the protagonist, Violet, throughout history make it worth seeing. Seeing how she tries to discover the meaning of love and with it, that of freedom, is an experience that I will never forget.
A tragic and sad story, yes, but also too beautiful. Thanks Kyoto Animation for this wonderful adaptation ❤. 10/10

Auto Memoir Doll and『I Love You』

Breathtaking second half and a so-so first half, marks the end of my rewatch of Violet Evergarden and it’s been a truly mesmerising, emotional and impactful ride! Might’ve enjoyed the show a teeny bit more this time but it comes down to a solid 9.25/10 but a considerate 9.50/10 => 10/10 thanks to all the great stuff done absolutely right, so roughly about the same, iirc.

End of the little conflict this episode first up. Lots of emotions and a very gritty display from Violet to save the day but there’s that unsatisfying feeling quite admittedly. Benedict joining in the party and going on to saving Violet right after pretty much is the catalyst (moreover the soldiers with guns falling down like flies to Violet and then Diethard even) but I couldn’t help but sigh on Diethard’s attempts at understanding and comprehending this new Violet too. Damn, that precious smile from Violet when he tossed over the brooch to her though. Anyway, it’s a good thing it’s a win-win situation for Violet and her new town. Cool how they demonstrated the signing so realistically with the sound of click-clacks settling in and all, great to see!

Awesome that we got the remaining bit of Gilbert and Violet’s meeting before the very eventful battle. Gilbert’s guilt and Violet oblivious to that, jeez these two need to meet again so that they’ll finally be on the same page for once. I’ll leave that to the upcoming movie.

Anyway, second half and we’re back to some more glorious VE stuff! Violet’s meeting with Gilbert’s mother was seriously heartrending, it’s not her fault at all and it’s great that someone finally says those words. Diethard finally accepting this new version of Violet was quite the nice addition too!

Gosh that scene of Violet in tears and Gilbert walking off like that, totally wrecked my heart. A very lovely letter too and the scene of the letters showering was gorgeous! Cattleya giving her the heads up was really nice to see! KyoAni flexing with a bit more glorious sceneries right before the very end was really great to have too! Lol @ Erica falling for Benedict though and that’s a really sweet little letter from the Pres xD. Good to see Lucilia back for the finale too!

Cried throughout from Episodes 7 to 10 and 13 (and a little bit in the other episodes too). As such, enjoyment wise is a 10/10. But hey, this show is known for its stellar animation (10/10) more so than anything else and it totally deserves to be known for it! Music (9.5/10) was bloody glorious too and I think I’m in the minority here but I absolutely adored the ED theme! Violet’s journey has been a compelling and a very emotional ride and the fact that they put aside much of the cast to focus solely on her is not least bit downgrading for me (or maybe just a slight bit).

I’m looking forward to my next rewatch (which won’t be happening anytime soon, I fear)!

This has truly been a remarkable journey. I'd love to type up an entire essay, but perhaps a letter length post will suffice.

Ultimately, I feel as though Violet Evergarden is a story of salvation. In the wake of Violet's past is a firestorm of blood, carnage, sin & death. In contrast, the various encounters she has as an auto memory doll reach into the depths of her shell and draw out her humanity. Even though she used her hands to take so much life, she also used those hands to uplift & inspire many more to come.

9.5/10, this is easily KyoAni's greatest work to date & arguably will go down in history as their Magnum Opus.

Disappointing anime with gorgeous visuals, nothing else to write about here.

The soldiers are dumb and apparently they forgot they had guns with bullets in it, the blonde guy is apparently the secret agent James Bond working undercover in the Dolls department, the heroine is apparently the reincarnation of Jesus who will not kill the enemies that are trying to kill her and she even saves them in the process and get her ass beaten up afterwards because of it... oh boy, nothing can seriously go wrong here.

The whole anime felt like filler episodes, this anime didn't have an actual plot and they are trying a bit too hard to force some emotions out of me, I was unimpressed. The story through the episodes was cringy and too cliche with the same formula they repeated over and over again, the clients wants to write a letter, Violet shows up, shows her mechanical arms, the client feels sad about it and the cringe melodrama and sub-par music starts and this repeats over and over again... ughh... speaking about the music, the soundtrack was sub-par and very forgettable, I just finished watching this anime and I can't even remember a single soundtrack, it was THAT forgettable. There are other animes that I didn't liked but at least had good soundtracks that I love and will never forget but here? nah.

This anime is extremely overhyped, I will only praise the beautiful fluid animation and because of that alone I will rate this a 7/10, the animators really cared about this show and put a lot of effort into it. Everything else felt flat here.

The only episode that I will praise is actually episode 10 which was good, it needed better soundtrack obviously but it was still good and that ending actually gave me teary eyes, the ending was extremely emotional and powerful, it just needed better soundtrack with more melody in it but nonetheless, I was actually impressed with that episode.

Final rating:

7/10

how many times I rewatch it I will never forget this, the message is very clear and adore. I think people who don't like this closed their heart for humanity, I take it as a lesson that people died in war will never come back and they have love ones, freind and families that left behind, war games teach us how not to care about people you killed you just kill and kill because they revive but in this real world they won't come back in this world,

the story is so strong not just the animation but the very important message it contain

and pls don't wish for another world war

On rewatch which I usually never do for tv. Just gona note the new thoughts...

ep2: Noticed Iris nearly twisted her ankle on heels, both foreshadows her ep4 stair trip, and jabs at her country girl upbringing, who just came to the big city Leiden to validate herself after her love rejection.
Eris & Iris in ep2 & 4 both have obvious inferiority complex, but handled quite differently. Eris sulks but supports other noobs like Violet. While Iris is openly jealous & puts up false confidence, but still wishes to understand others and gave Violet the much needed patience. Yes these two aren't very likeable for some, but they feel like naturally flawed humans, while helping push Violet forward.

ep7: That's why Hikari Takanashi became a vampire in another life so she wouldn't die of cancer.

ep9: Regression of her mental state. More suitable than the previous insert, this song "Believe in" is fabulous, and perfectly match the montage. Hodgins' fire theme of burn marks that never fade, has a very different feel on rewatch after kyoani's tragedy. Still confused about Dietfried, maybe he just a troubled tsundere like Leon?

ep12: Cattleya vs Dietfried was heavy. Cool seagull to plane transition.

ep13: While the train scenes were outlandish, still quite intense with a balanced fight and the bridge save. Really nice seeing closure with Gilbert's mom, and Violet overcoming the orders and burn marks. Lol Benedict got the moves. Hodgins letter lol wait he married!? Pleasant end to an episodic show that had real dialogue & character growth. (I probably didn't watch this ep & a few parts on the first watch somehow...)

So I thought a 2nd try would get boring, but I was so wrong. Overall story I recall, but some parts there's so much directing detail to notice, and it's still the "romcom" I loved the first time, especially first half was quite funny. The "rom" part was more thematic on the nonexistent Gilbert, so it's mainly a comedy for me, with a giant feelstrain crashing in the middle arcs. Some parts didn't click with me, but funnies were consistent (not in any ironic way), and it hits hard when it does.

Thoroughly enjoyed the AutistBot transforming into our Jesus Saber. I look forward to the ova, two films, and more to come as kyoani rise from the ashes like Violet.

Why is the Major's brother angry at Violet? Not because he's a dick, but because he's also grieving for his brother, doesn't want to admit it and lashes out at Violet, blaming her for his death as a coping mechanism. That was my favorite part.

That was a great watch for me from every single perspective. Beside the obviously great art style, animation and OSTs, what I liked a lot is how each episode was so much packed with events and emotions that I always felt it's way longer than its actual length. Few episodes really had a pretty strong emotional impact on me, particularly episode 10, which was the strongest in the show.

The ending was done pretty well as well, even though I felt the animations were a bit...clunky or weird at the beginning of the last episode during the train section, but otherwise it was a great way to wrap this up. The story wasn't that complicated and didn't need anything special to wrap it up though, so a simple ending was enough. The show was more focusing on delivering emotions rather than having a complicated story and in that regard it delivered. The kinda episodic nature might irritate some but since each episode was very packed up with events as I said it wasn't a problem for me, and actually I feel this is a perfect anime to be followed on weekly basis with one episode a week rather than banging it up in one go, considering how each episode provide a pretty big package of emotions that you simply need to take your breath before moving on, rather being a one long story with twists at the end of each episode. I watched it in one go, but after each episode, I took few minutes to prepare my mind for the next package of emotions the next episode will deliver.

Overall it was a great watch and a pretty well done emotional roller coster from the beginning to the end. I rated it 9/10.

So my final impressions of this show and the episode. I'll talk about the episode first. The episode in itself was quite beautiful as all the other episodes so far. Got to see Violet's emotions one more time which again made me cry. Really enjoyed the episode overall.
Now comin' to the show, when I first heard about the show, I wasn't sure at all. I was not expecting it to be this good. I mean that there's no denying the fact that Kyoto animation is the best at what it does. A very well and beautifully animated series. OST in itself was great. Talkin' about story, it's a good story tbh but not that great but overall I enjoyed it very much and characters wise Violet was the most I could relate to. I really liked her character but I was expecting to see more of Gilbert in the show. Too bad we didn't get that. Side characters were very supportive which was great to watch.
I just hope we'll get to see more of Gilbert in the upcoming movie.

The finale wasn't as good as it could've been. Again with the action scenes at the start it was completely unrealistic. How the hell Benedict kicked the bomb off the bridge and then catch Violet after that?! Anyway, the second half was better with Gilbert's mother and the air flying letter scenes, but the end still felt underwhelming.
While this show had some very moving episodes (7 and 10) and Violet's character development was really good, it had a lot of flaws.

Especially with the overarching plot aside from it's episodic stories and flat, underdeveloped side characters. Even out of the episodic ones, some like the dying soldier one, felt so forced and the first 4 were also pretty bad, almost made me drop the show. The side characters were just pretty faces with no depth. But the worst were all the battle scenes which really sucked and ruined what enjoyment I might've had.

Overall, a decent series with beautiful visuals and music but with quite a few problems.

I want to know what it is,
this 'sin' they say I've committed.

Lovely final episode.
I have to say that already knowing spoilers from what which is yet to come, so certain plot points are rather easier for me to digest...

Most of the episodes were rather episodic in nature, yet it worked so well because many had really captivating and genuinely engaging stories to tell, I think I m may have cried over the majority of these 13 episodes.
Certainly NOT at the beginning, where I couldn't care less for Violet, but she really had amazing development, and it was also good to see the Major older brother getting some kind of closure here.

Lovely, lovely episode.
Dunno if I should ever try the LN since I m under the impression the anime actually fixes some weird things and weakness with the adaptation, both oh well.
I will just wait for the movie I guess.

(what that supposed to be Gilbert, the one Violet is smiling to at the very end of the episode?!...)

RIP for all the awesome staff (and art director) that were able to bring this to life.

BTW, I watched the extended version, they seem to have added some small scenes to develop things a bit more, not much of a change, this version also includes the ED, which makes it longer in time.

Dietfried taking Violet to meet their mom was sweet; their exchange seemed much needed for both of them. Then Violet's response to Dietfried's final order was great! I hope they interact more. Who was Violet smiling at in the end??
💜 I adore this anime!

If I had to use one word only to describe the show, the entire series throughout is 美しい (beautiful)! I've not read the LN but I did like how the story flows (from the rearrangement) and the executions were mostly on point for the emotional aspects. Top notch all around even in 2020.

Well, it was good. The ending is somewhat anticlimactic, but I guess it's all for the sake of the movie(Hype, Mr. Anderson, HYPE!). But well, I guess it's good in it's own way, the whole series keep the same pace throughout the story.

Also, I'm surprised they didn't show Gilbert at the end. This is kinda sad. I'm fine with that though, at least it wasn't that "all-too-happy ever-after" soap opera type of ending.

Just, man, I'm so up for a sequel, but at the same time I understand that KyotoAni is not here to provide us with one... RIP.

Fantastic episode, one of the most beautiful animes I've ever seen, Violet is beautiful when she smiles. In this episode she has found her resolve to her emotional traumas and that she loves Gilbert.

10/10
Anime is fun.

I really loved this show. When I was about half way through, each episode made me cry. Starting when Violet started going on her own calls. It really touched me to see her touch each persons life, and how they each impacted her. She really started to make up for all that she did. This was such a beautiful anime.

Yes, Same as Everyone.........Nearly Cried!!!
But I enjoyed episodes more in which Violet ghostwrites letters for New Characters More than her own Story of her with Gilbert!!!!!!
Also, The Action scene on Train in episode 12 ruined the Mood!!!
Otherwise......Really Great Anime!!!
