I am a staunch believer of the fact that art (by which I mean anime) is 100% subjective. There is no such thing as an objectively good work as meaning is only created when the viewer interacts with the piece of art. In that sense, I always try to alter my tastes to suit the genre/show that I'm watching in order to give the show as fair a shot as possible. If I don't like something, I realize that other people might do, and that's perfectly fine with me.
Personally, I don't believe in a number rating system either. Thery are nothing more than an exercise in trying to quantify the unquantifiable. What an 8/10 means to me might not be the same as what an 8/10 means to you. Therefore, I feel that it's important to explain what I mean by the numbers I use to rate shows:
10/10 - Shows that manage to speak emotionally to me. Whether it is because of nostalgia, my ability to relate to the characters or the way they manage to pull my heartstrings. These are shows that I can watch over and over and over again without getting bored or when I just want to relax.
09/10 - A thoroughly enjoyable show in terms of characters, story or emotional engagement. While I don't have a compulsion to watch them every other day, these are the shows that are able to get me riveted to the screen whenever I do watch them.
08/10 - I had fun watching these shows. I got emotionally involved with the characters and was interested to know what happened next. However, I don't think I'll re-watch these that often.
07/10 - These were okay/average shows for me. I think I might have forced myself to finish some of these shows at one point or another just for the sake of completion.
06/10 - Meh. I wouldn't have minded not seeing it.
05/10 and Below - These are shows that wronged me in some way. Perhaps I felt insulted or angry when the show didn't live up to my expectations.
Dropped - I refuse to give shows that I dropped grades because it is just not fair to the show. Not only do I recognize the fact that I'm not its target audience, I didn't even finish watching it. How could I give it an accurate grade if I only watched a fraction of what the show had to offer? Any form of judgement would be premature at best and uninformed at worst.
(Note that this is how I rank shows now. Some of the entries in my list might not reflect this updated scoring rubric.)
What does this mean in terms of being a collector? Well...
10/10 and 09/10
I'll collect all kinds of merchandise from these series. Figures, character goods, books, DVDs/BDs, replicas, dolls, you name it. I love these shows and want to experience them even outside of their fictional context. From time to time, I might even splurge and purchase a high-ticket item from one of these shows if it's something that I really want.
08/10 and 07/10
I won't go overboard and buy every single thing out there on the market. For some of the shows, I might buy a couple of figures here and there, especially if I like the characters or designs. Some of them only warrant a phone strap. For others, I won't even be tempted to buy anything related to the show.
06/10 and Below
It would be a criminal waste of money (for me) to spend money on anything related to these shows.

It's such a shame Takahashi passed away and this movie was his last full work before his death.
