Synopsis

Amidst a post-apocalyptic world, Chito and Yuuri seem to be the final survivors of the war that brought civilization to its demise. No longer having a place to live, the girls roam around the city on their half-track motorcycle, ever in search of resources to sustain their vagabond lifestyle. Despite the bleak future ahead of them, the duo still finds ways to entertain themselves throughout this melancholic journey.

Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou takes place in a barren world during the harsh winter season. As the happy-go-lucky Yuuri and the serious Chito hopelessly search for a sign of civilization, their expedition may in fact become humanity's last tour.

A meditation of sorts.

This manga is a compilation of the author’s existential ideas. It’s presented through a candid lens of wonder, curiosity. She’s not making a thesis but rather asking questions and leaving us the reader to sleep on them, as she’s probably done for some time. The setting is perfect for this; two uneducated girls trying to survive in the barren wasteland that was our world. It allows it to ask fundamental questions without coming off as pretentious. The artstyle really helps with this too, I can’t help but feel that this would be dismissed as just another seinen if this was drawn “properly”.

Mixed Feelings
It has become somewhat of a tradition for me to start reviews by explaining how I came across this manga. A few months ago, I was buying some manga from an online store, and I came across this one. My brother also mentioned it, saying it’s probably nothing special, but it has good ratings and could be interesting since it’s short. So, we bought it, I started reading, and it turned out to be exactly what I expected — neither more nor less. It reminded me a bit of Horizon, but it was weaker in comparison.

The story follows two girls traveling through a post-apocalyptic world. ...

Girl's Last Tour is truly an anomaly for me. In the anime and manga industry, dystopian works are typically out of the norm. And Girl's Last Tour is arguably one of the most polished within the genre. The art direction as well as the flow of plot seems appropriate for its length. For an era where the average series easily goes on for 100s of chapters, the brisk yet thrilling pace of Girl's Last Tour is quite refreshing. However, I would still not recommend this manga. I hate to say it the ending singlehandedly ruined this series for me. In comparison to where the anime ...
