I have to say at some points I didn't quite get what is going on and why the characters were acting as they did. Most of the movie we got only Riku and Schwi talking and doing anything, they remind me a lot of Sora and Shiro. And Corone being related to Steph wasn't really surprising given their similarities in looks. I was surprised to see that the god practically did nothing to become so powerful and here I thought he had to be a badass to rule the whole world haha

Overall the movie was good, but not outstanding. I wasn't interested through everything that happened and I couldn't really like Riku the same way I like Sora. Was cool seeing the guys from the main series again in the end and of course Jibril wrecking havoc ^^

Visually stunning, as for story it was fine I guess. 7/10.

Since I've read the light novel before, this story did not feel as rushed, because I've properly understand it. Therefore, 10/10. Amazingly animated, and the epilogue was awesome

Well I liked the anime but was disappointed at the same time. I did read the LN and they took off many enjoyable moments.... and many moments that were necessary to the character developpment in my opinion.

The marriage as it comes here for example pops out of nowhere while in the NL you see their relationship deepening. There are many unexplained things or details that can change our point of view on the characters.

The scenes and details I'm thinking first :

There are other stuff but these are the first coming to mind. Taking more time for character developpment and interesting scenes would have been better but I guess, they were limited by their budget :s

Damn, what a great movie! The visuals and animation were amazing! Seeing Sora and Shiro at the end was pretty great. I suppose I shouldn't get my hopes up, but I wonder if we'll ever get a second season...

The time leaps were pretty extreme imo and detracted from the entire movie(kinda like SAO leaps but better hidden). I'm not saying I didn't like the movie, I watched it twice, but personally I just can't get the entire android/robot gets human feelings.

Again, I didn't like Shuvi but its not like I hated or disliked her. To me, she was just weird. Movie 8.5/10. Pretty amazing. I thought this was a discussion not a debate :P

Chill, we're not debating or maybe it appeared that way to you, that's not my intention :) we're good, we're fellow NGNL fan here. Anyway, i actually understand you're point and have no intention of going against it coz we all have our personal opinion and it's not like it's a bad thing.

Probably, you have a point about it being 'extreme', since it happened too fast, tho i didn't really had a problem with it, especially in the novel. She had enough character development and what i liked the most is that she was very well portrayed as an Ex-Machina, which tho slowly developing a 'heart', she remains still and i love their dyanamic :)

Anyway, we hope to have some announcement soon regarding the S2, coz the movie is very well receive right now, being the highest rated film for this year.

You do know that there's a little time skip right ? it took shuvi more than a year to develop her feelings towards Riku. Before and even after they got married, shuvi didn't understand a thing but she learned it slowly thru riku. The thing is, it wouldn't made sense if she did it on her own, but she was surrounded by those who has it and tho an Ex-Machina, i do think it's not impossible not to mention that she fully understand what 'heart' is right before she died, and the only time she came to realized it and told Riku she loves him which i thought it's very well executed and didn't seem forced or rushed.

We just thought that it's 'impossible' since it never happened yet, but AI nowadays is becoming a common trend and u know as we saw on the movie stuff, Robots developing their own consciousness til it can behave more like humans. Tho it's absurd to believe in it and it may appear stupid, i just thought that it's really possible :)

Whether Shuvi had a soul or not, doesn't change the fact that her personality or thought process of a machine drastically changed to extremely human.

This is the movie discussion, not the light novel discussion. Unfortunately, there is no official English release of the 7th volume yet. I purchased all of them and the 6th was the latest. :P

Doesn't change the fact? Facts and opinions are two different things. Is ok if you don't like the way she changed but that doesn't turn your opinion into an undeniable fact.

It doesn't matter whether I liked her change or not, she wanted to learn about the human heart and eventually developed feelings. I don't see how any part of what I said is an opinion.

But in my opinion, it made no sense. I honestly think Tet carried the movie, if the entire movie wasn't Tet retelling the story of how he became god, the entire movie would lose its backbone.

Well She was "human like" from the very beginning. She displayed curiosity, something that machines can't do. Also, considering that she was not created by humans, and humans are not even part of the war it made no sense that she showed empathy for anyone even for other Ex-Machina or even her creator unless of course she possessed feelings from the very beginning.

To push this even further she possesses individuality and the will to carry her own research even though she was already disconnected from the main server. So I conclude that she was already acting like a human during the her first 10 minutes of screen time.

She is not an automata, but a self aware, mechanical entity with an evolving artificial intelligence. I think that it would be more out of place if she retained her "robot like" antics. And the only thing that I found contradictory is her ability to shed tears. Because even if her AI as the ability to learning and experience or emulate emotions, there was no reason for her to have lacrimal glands. Unless she was a biological/mechanic creation, but judging by her fight with Jibril she seems to be completely inorganic.

this..was incredible. i came into it expecting a hilarious comedy like the main series is. instead i got a truly epic love and drama story. this is one of the very few movies that i watched almost fully(all except the first 18 minutes) in one setting. any complaints i have(such as schwi caring about Riku way too quickly)are honestly just nitpicks. this movie was epic. and very sad. my eyes teared up in two different parts. i still cant believe that this is in the same series as NGNL,as the feelings are way too different. still, this is as good as that was, just in different genres :')

Surprisingly good movie. Schwi reminded me of Shiro a lot (especially the personality mannerisms and voice). In fact, at some point, I almost thought they were the same character.

Riku also feels similar to Sora although I personally still find the guy from the main series more appealing. To me, the two main leads made an impact from start to finish with their relationship. The marriage stuff was probably the only part that distracted me a bit as it felt too cliche, even for this movie. Otherwise, it definitely lived to my expecations.

Oh and glad to see Jibril showing up too. She's exactly the character I remember from years ago!

Probably one of the best anime movies I've ever watched.

Usually anime movie that're adopted by a long running series cut too much contents or too rushed to tell a good story due to time constraint, but this one nails every important aspects as to how to tell a good story with good pacing.

This movie is actually best to watch on devices that you can manually pause because there are some scenes and setting that need to put more attention into for the story to make more sense. If you miss the tiny detail, you may feel like the story does not make that much sense or too rushed.

Also I strongly recommend you to watch the original tv series first before you watch this, so you can understand the 16 interesting races setting more.

How sweet, love was stronger than his hate.

So he's Riku.

Woah! WTF! Make a woman out of her?
Dat kiss.
Procreate?

And that was the end. It was good. Funny that the names Riku and Sora were used for the MC's. As a KH fan, I had to laugh. Happy to see the waifu's Steph and Jibril again.

The tv show was great, the movie was boring though. I liked the serious tone they were going for, but the ill placed comedy negated that. Took over an hour of the movie to start picking up. Maybe would have been better as an episodic experience instead?

I love this movie. I cried at the end. I can't say a lot about a movie(probably because I don't watch a lot of movies in general, I mean the only real reason that I watched this movie, is because there is not a season 2 of that great show, and the movie would be and it is a great thing to keep that hunger for that season) So loved this movie a lot, but I will not say that is perfect, the only real problem that I have is the fact that some parts are boring, but it said I would recommend this movie. My final rating is a 9.51/10

Almost a tearjerker for me. First and foremost, I'm a sucker for world-building and background stories about the world the characters I'm interested in, and how they would impact the overall story even it's just a little. There's a lot of potential here, I wish it was longer...this could be a series!

I can feel their despair and desperation even if it was very shortly depicted, if this was a series as I wished it was, I'll be probably crying my eyes out. At the same time, it makes me proud they survived all that, living as insects underfoot by the Old Gods and their pet races.

Can't believe the Ex-Machina sided with the humans, did they get infected with data synchronization from Schwi? Oh well, the human heart is never rational anyway, so logical errors it is. >_<

So Riku Dola essentially called Tet to existence by fervently praying to him as he fades away, for the first and last time, then offering him the Suniaster thereby assuring the newest and (assumingly) weakest God to be the One True God? Tet is one very, very lucky god! I guess he has to be since he's the god of games.

8/10 Heck I liked it!
You see there's no need to wonder where your god is,

Of course, things weren't all sunshine and games back then so the whole place had a very ominous vibe all over with the warmth of the sun being the farthest thing from the lands where chaos of the Great War permeates. Everything in the present enjoying peace at the present day and age is all thanks to two brave warriors bound with a love that stemmed from sibling complexes who were so close to achieving their goals only to fall short in the end and passed the torch to the powerful who finally acknowledged their efforts.

Seeing Schwi desperately struggling to survive against Jibril because of her newly acquired human feelings was heartbreaking. At least she transmissioned her memories to the cluster who ended up empathizing in end and saved the wedding ring. I had my concerns on how a human like Riku would handle the concentrated energy of 3 magical nukes and they proved to be true. If Tet didn't see the need to provide an assist, Disboard would've blown up for real.

The whole movie was gorgeous and despite the pacing being a bit weird at times, it didn't become much of a problem because they gave enough hints to make out what happened. I think that the reason why Riku and Schwi looked so similar to Sora and Shiro was because Tet took some liberties in his storytelling to make it more understandable for Izuna but them being pre-reincarnations of the two from another world is an interesting perspective too.

I've liked the tv series because of how clever the plot was in terms of game strategy, so hearing that they would not focus on that on this movie made me worried. But holy shit, this movie was a masterpiece! The animation, soundtrack, direction, everything is basically impecable. The only reason why I won't give a 10/10 is because the movie made the races subplot a lot confusing. I honestly didn't know what was going on in some moments. But this is definitely something that made me think of giving a 10/10, and as you can see, I don't give this rating very often

Zero was very entertaining (not gonna lie, I love its name) but I had the same problem with the tv series: I found the main characters annoying. The ones in the original are basically the same ones in Zero which was a major disappointment for me.

Sometimes I couldn't understand what was going on (I blame the horrible subs) but I somehow managed to get most of it and I must say that seeing how Disboard came to be was great.

I enjoyed this movie much more than the tv series, the silliness was kept to a mimimum and the grandstanding in the gameplay as well. I appreciated the much more straightforward actions of the characters instead of just the condescending smirks that the characters in the tv series gave each other, got real tiresome.

Though I'll prob give season 2 a go if its ever made...

Damn this is great. A modern day classic, I say. Yes, it did feel a little rushed, the pacing would be better if they made it a little longer, but it managed to do everything it should anyway, gracefully at that. I'd feel wrong about myself if I complained.

I'm glad they did, it drastically fleshed out her character, her personal story. I mean, in the show itself, we were told she had been a ruthless being, made exclusively to kill, but I think majority of viewers just skimmed over that fact, even despite being shown her nuking a whole city and such. Now, though, we see her not only ruthlessly kill someone who doesn't want to fight, not only her doing so out of such low incentive as hunting a curiosity, a premium specimen, we also actually care about the one she murders, we feel the hatred towards her, the resentment.
The movie didn't villanise Jibril. Throughout the run of NGNL we've been reminded several times that she was a former villain, that she had indeed done those horrible things. What the movie did was, it took it one step further and not only told – it showed.

Didn't expect to have a serious story here, quite surprising but not unwelcome.. until Schwi enter the story.. forced romantic plotline, forced comedic scenes that are out of character.. and a plenty confusing plotline that never really explained how we got there, so it became rather not sympathize-able.

I cringe at most of Riku x Schwi moments.. how she gained "a heart" and became human was lazy, how Riku came to love a robot had little sense. What the supposed relationship was trying to represent isn't that bad but the set up was really lazy and barely had any impact.

Aside from the current timeline with Teto (Kugyuu is love, Kugyuu is life) and the cast, I didn't quite enjoy the movie.. It's bad when you take the style you wrote NGNL main series with, and use it the same way with NGNL: Zero.. gotta realize NGNL is somewhat comedic and not meant to be taken seriously, while Zero is the complete opposite.. cracking jokes make no sense in that context at all, especially jokes that weren't meant for the characters in the show but rather the audience, that is out of character of Riku in plenty scenarios.

If this ever got a sequel I hope it focuses on Kuuhaku instead of the other characters.

Not bad (:

I give it a 7.5/10 but rounded down bc it wasn't TOO impressive imo.

Very dramatic and intense lol

Better than the main show, and many other anime tbh, even for a prequel movie lol. Started so oddly...but then the similarities to the characters and world in the main show became clear. REINCARNATION FTW!!! And the battles got better and better. THE GAME HAS CHANGED! BUT THE PLAYERS REMAIN THE SAME! 7.5/10 VERY GOOD!!!!
